The Mets limp home from a brutal beating in Washington to take on the second place Atlanta Braves, sitting only a half game out of first. The Mets somehow retain joint possession of fourth place, but remain a discouraging 36 1/2 net games off the division pace.

Worry not, however. The Mets are poised to unleash Jason Vargas. And that's never a pleasant thought for the opposition.

Mike full-tin-EV-ich goes for the Georgians.

I'd be frothing like Cujo at the chance to face Vargas, if I were any kind of real MLB hitter. He sucks all the butt.

I hate being right sometimes.

Thursday nights are always slow here. Everyone (including me) is down at
the Bedrock Firehouse playing cards and drinking fitty-cent beers. Just wait,
Wilma and Betty are gonna figure out the whole fire department thing when
they realize that Bedrock is made of all stone.

This stretch reminds me of how I felt during the 'Nieuwenhuis game' a couple years back.
That bolt out of the blue shocked me so much because, while I knew that a 3R HR was theoretically possible, the odds of it actually happening were so low in my mind that I never considered it.

We've reached the same point now. There have been a half dozen ABs here where a timely hit would have put us right back in the game, but I had ZERO cahnfidence in any of them.
And this goes back to Zimmo's game-ending GiDP yesterday on the first pitch.

On the other hand, ideally we have a pinch-hitter for most of the lineup.

Nice job staring at a pitch right over the plate, Kevin. Maybe one day the Mets will have a decent catcher again.

Yeah, crappy game for Disco Stu.

Swing the damn bat. Don't let a bad ump beat you--Pawlecki is more than capable of doing that himself.
