I mean, everyone's streaky.since 2016, Conforto and Cespedes have had better hit streaks. TJ Rivera has had similar streaks. As has Rene Rivera, James Loney, Juan Lagares and Jose Reyes. Asdrubal Cabrera has had three.

So yes, a professional baseball player is capable of having a hot streak and providing a lot of offense during it. That doesn't make him not the 5th best OF on the Mets.

Last year Bruce had 36 homers -- tied for 15th in the majors -- and 101 RBI, tied for 18th best. That doesn't suck.

RBIs mean nothing in player evaluation, and the HR are nice but he still made more than average amount of outs to counter that one skill.

RBI reflect that he had a hit -- or at least put the ball in play (or walked with the bases loaded) -- with people on base. Last night we were 0-9 with people in scoring position. I would have liked some RBI.

the Mets have 5 outfielders and he's the worst one and the most limited, that seems to suck for me, even if it's not Tebow level of sucking.

I would've too, and the best way to get one is to get the best hitters on the team up, and that's not Bruce. Bruce having RBI is a direct result of the rest of the team being good in front of him.

Bruce having RBI is a direct result of the rest of the team being good in front of him.

I get that he has to have people on base a head of him, which is why leadoff hitters don't get a lot of RBI and that it's not the best measure for people batting in that spot.

But, the RBI are a reflection of him having a productive at-bat while those good players are on base ahead of him. If he's driving in 101 people, he can't be all bad. Factor in that he did a chunk of that playing four months for us last year, without the benefit of him having a lot of good guys on base ahead of him.

yes, and the reason some of the guys behind him didn't have as high totals is because Bruce made outs at higher than the league average rate, suppressing base-runners.

If you magically gave all of those Bruce AB to Granderson or Conforto or Cespedes or Nimmo, they'd likely have HIGHER totals.

Yeah, but -- Granderson was super streaky, Cespedes was hurt, Nimmo was a rookie and Conforto already was in the lineup. Bruce was the guy we had, and he was effective at bringing to the plate 101 guys who were on base ahead of him. He had 75 when he left the team, and still was the team leader at the end.

I'm not saying he's a league MVP. But I don't understand the dislike. He's a solid player.
