  1. Its been a very long, long time since I was there, but I would highly recommend any camp from this guy: Joe Wladyka's Baseball Camp Location: Various Dates: Various Contact: Joe Wladyka's CSRS 7 Wilson Ave. Rutherford, NJ 07070 Phone: 800-227-5875 I didn't get to him until I was 15, but I wish I had much sooner because his camps made me a whole new player.
  2. Is there any chance that the escalators will actually work all the way to the upper deck in this new stadium?
  3. Flying up from Savannah. Upper deck 4th row behind home plate. 850 miles can't stop the opening day tradition.
  4. Anyone know if they are in with DirectTv on the MLB package or will us out-of-staters get left out in the cold too? It was bad enough that every game on channel 11 wasn't on the MLB package the past two years.
  5. Adam - you mentioned previously that Mike Piazza was a loner, pretty much divorced from the team. Was this always the case for the entire 7 years or was it more the final year or two that he was here? What was the cause of this? Was he simply a shy, quiet type of guy who kept to himself, or did most of the other players simply not like him for some reason? Was he close with anyone else in the clubhouse?
  6. anybody else have a problem with them bringing the infield in there? I know they are having problems scoring runs, but its only the 6th. With the bases loaded and no outs, I'd rather see them try to get two and stop the potential big inning.
  7. 11 reasons why Mike Piazza ranks with Seaver, Strawberry, Carter, Gooden, ect as the patheon of Mets history:September 16, 1998April 28, 1999July 10, 1999October 19, 1999June 9, 2000June 30, 2000October 12, 2000June 17, 2001September 21, 2001 - (A home run actually made a grown man cry at a baseball game!!)May 16, 2004July 14, 2005
  8. Ron Darling, the Nationals TV color analyst summed up Diaz's play in the outfield yesterday quite nicely: "This guy is awful."
  9. ]...we need to start carrying baseball bats, knives and handgunsHe's right. They should start a gayng.
  10. Just read two good books on my seven million hour flight back from Vietnam that I would recommend: - The Bad Guys Won! A Season of Brawling, Boozing, Bimbo-chasing, and Championship Baseball with Straw, Doc, Mookie, Nails, The Kid, and the Rest of the 1986 Mets, the Rowdiest Team Ever to Put on a New York Uniform by Jeff PearlmanI'm sure most of you probably read this already and there was probably a thread about it at some point. - Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen - Can't get enough of writers like Hiaasen, Tom Robbins, Christopher Moore, Christopher Buckley, Dave Barry, etc. If you like satire, you will enjoy this one.

    Deja Vu

Didn't somebody go into the visitors pen and steal the rosin bag that day? All I remember is wondering how on earth Mets Magic could possibly stand that heat wearing all black. Angel had to hear Kase getting on him from his spot in left too.
  12. I've got to believe at this point that there is some over-the-counter supplement that these guys are taking that has hidden anabolic steroids in it, or has an ingredient that causes someone to test positive for steroids even if steroids were not actually an ingredient (think poppy seeds and weed). Its hard for me to believe that RP knowingly used steroids after his testimony and knowing there is testing and it is equally hard for me to believe that a pitcher would use steroids period.on edit: Interestingly, half of the players suspended so far this year have been pitchers.
  13. ]As for the Pete Incaviglia reference, Dunn walks waaay more than Pete ever did. So much more, in fact, that Dunn already has more walks in his 5 years than Incaviglia did in his entire 12-year career. They have similar numbers overall if you compare their first four seasons. Yes, Dunn walks more. Thank you for pointing out that one stat.
  14. ]and high OBP guys more than it needs one-dimensional power hitters.Adam Dunn's 3 year average OBP is higher then both Casey and Freel.
  15. Guys and Dolls references in the pool? Adam Dunn is a nice power hitter, check that, a really good power hitter, but I think some of you need to temper your admiration of this guy. He is a little too Pete Incaviglia for me.
  16. The Newsday article sounds a lot more like a chance to flame a rival then it does to dispel the trade rumor with solid fact.
  17. As if on cue, on the way to work this morning I passed a pickup truck on I-95 with a bumper sticker that said "John Rocker for President". Man do I love living in the south.
  18. Well isn't this set up nicely for Burrell to ruin the day...
  19. I guess Lidle threw the ball into centerfield or something on that play? Tough to get the real picture from Sportsline. One hit away from breaking the game open a little bit.
  20. Its nice to know who is who considering a lot of us have met each other in person at least once.
  21. I've maintained from the outset that this is a .500 team and that this is not the year. My biggest fear is that they do what they did last year and become buyers when they should be sellers. I'd say we will know which way this team will be going after the next 16 games, of which 13 are against NL East teams. 3 in Philly starting tonight, 3 at the Zoo, then the Phillies again (three more games), the Marlins (three) and the Nationals (four).
  22. I am the artist formally known as Mutsfan/Thread Killer/Armin Tanzarian for those of you keeping score at home.
  23. a monstrously huge one?
  24. I see no need to trade prospects for major league talent this year. If anything I would be looking to do the opposite. This team is what it is, a .500 baseball team. I just don't see this being the year to go after it. I'd rather see us keep all of our options open for the next few years instead.
  25. Richards was also the manager of the Chisox on September 30, 1976 when he made the club's batting order in numerical order by position (except for Minnie Minoso, who was 53 years old at the time, hitting 9th at DH) The lineup that day was: Downing 2L. Johnson 3Stein 4Bell 5Dent 6Bannister 7Lemon 8Hairston 9Minoso DH
