Their odds to make the playoffs dropped by about 10% even though both the Mets and Braves didn't play yesterday. The Mets odds stayed the same.

If he does well it's more pressure on the Braves and DBacks. If the Braves are really saving Sale for Monday, I wonder how he pitches on 11 days rest. He last pitched on September 19. All of them control their own destiny. I say it is dumb to save Sale. You need wins, and whoever pitches today can pitch game 2 of the WC series. But sure. Lots more clarity after tonight's games.
  5. Fangraphs actually has 50/50 coin flip odds percentages. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds/coin-flip/wchttps://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds/coin-flip/wc This favors the Mets, mostly because I think Atlanta and Arizona are projected as better teams.
  6. well, ESPN doesn't EXPLAIN where I can see, where this stuff comes from. Par for the course with them of course. I wonder if they're flat out stealing it. Even if they duplicated effort, randomness might have it slightly different.

Maybe this is just a way to get everyone an extra day (and better align the rotation). Jeez. Did youse actually think that that chart was gonna hold for more than three or four days? Plotting out the pitching rotations for like half the league for about a month out. Madness. I was kind a hoping to see an expected reliever usage for each day too.
  9. he's not. I didn't listen to the pod cast, have not found those guys insightful or interesting. Who knows though. Does he give a good quote? This vote is mostly a popularity contest among the media.
  10. I've got more nits to pick with Eric Chavez I think, but I haven't been enamored with Mendoza or Med's Noza (Carlos when he wears a mustache disguise with a big fake nose) By nature we don't know a lot about the specifics, but my impression of the manager is one of someone stumbling along. It's his first year, there's some sense that some of the stumbles are things he'll learn from. Are the Mets fine with this? Is this an example of how this was always a punt year so they were always okay with potentially losing games so the new guy can take his lumps? Why did not want Chavez last year but did this year? Why is Hefner still here? It's hard to believe there's a well thought out long term plan in place.
  11. “It has been an honor and a privilege to work with this incredible piece of American history, and I am proud that it will now be part of one of the finest private collections in the world,” [ivy, Director of the auction house] said in a statement after the sale. I wouldn't be surprised if Cohen himself bought the jersey. he is an expert in that wall street grift of making the act of purchasing something instantly increase that thing in value, so yeah maybe. When you distill it down, that's really all collectables are in general. "That's a thing I want, therefore it must be worth something" and then "that's a thing someone else wants so it must be worth something therefore I must want it too" And this is why Fanatics can hold ridiculous grifter events like they just held.

  13. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: geez. As though we somehow need 2 sports radio stations more than 2 newsradio stations. There should be 5 or 6 of each. And 10 Klassik rawk stations! one for each listener! They've got Green Day on Spotify or wherever music is these days don't they?
  14. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=165973 time=1723417463 user_id=119] I think it would be neat if MLB played a game each year in a minor league park, a cool one that's far from any major league team. Give people a chance to see the game up close and build the fan base. Maybe a place like Oklahoma City, the Quad Cities, Indianapolis.
  15. Game is on ESPN at 7:10 p.m. Luis Severino, 7-5, 4.06 ERA faces Luis Castillo, 9-11, 3.48 ERA. Stuff we have in common. Seattle used to have a professional hockey team named the Metropolitans. With the benefit of hindsight, what do you think about the Cano-Diaz trade? Mets got Robinson Cano and Diaz and $20 million. Mariners got Jay Bruce, relievers Anthony Swarzak and Gerson Bautista, and prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn. Dunn hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022, Swarzak since 2021, Bautista since 2019. Kelenic is just OK. Cano obviously sucked. It was a good "go for it" trade at the time, though it lacked a full commitment with other moves going forward. Covid didn't help. One of the best closers and a hall caliber hitter, even if an older one? Those are two good parts to have.
