  1. David Wright is correct! A new question has been added. 1. In the movie "The Odd Couple" there was a fictitious game between the Pirates and the Mets at Shea and Bill Mazeroski of the Pirates hit into a game ending triple play and the Mets won 1-0. Give me the names of all four players for the Mets who played the infield during Mazeroski's game ending triple play and also give me the name of the Mets pitcher who got Mazeroski to hit into the game ending triple play. Hint: There is a little debate as to who actually was involved in this scene, however there is a general consensus. The first baseman debuted for the Mets in 1962, the second baseman in 1967, the shortstop in 1965, the third baseman in 1966 and the pitcher in 1964. Hint: The third baseman was involved in this trade—Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals to the New York Mets for Al Jackson and Charley Smith. The second baseman was involved in this trade—Traded by the St. Louis Cardinals with Art Mahaffey and Tony Martínez to the New York Mets for Eddie Bressoud, Danny Napoleon and cash. The first baseman wasn't involved in any trades; he spent his whole career with the Mets. The shortstop was involved in this trade—Traded by the New York Mets to the Philadelphia Phillies for Fred Andrews and cash. Thea pitcher was involved in this trade: Traded by the New York Mets with Buddy Booker, Tommy Davis and Billy Wynne to the Chicago White Sox for Tommie Agee and Al Weis. Hint: The third baseman was a multi-time All-Star with the Cardinals. The second baseman was never an All-Star, but he played in the '64 World Series with the Cardinals. The shortstop was twice an All-Star with the Mets, 1970 and 1971. The first baseman was an All-Star with the Mets in 1965. The pitcher was never an All-Star, in fact he twice led the league in losses and went 86-139 for his career. Hint: The third baseman had a brother named Cloyd. The second baseman is the only player in big league history with that last name. The shortstop shares a surname with someone nicknamed "Hawk." The first baseman's nickname also evokes imagery of a bird, a waterfowl in this case. The pitcher also had a nickname, "Fat ____." --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 2. Who were the only Mets to wear #41 before Tom Seaver? Hint: Four men wore the number before Seaver. Hint: Player One pitched for the Mets in '62. Player Two pitched for the Mets in '63. Player Three pitched for the Mets in '65. Player Four pitched for the Mets in '65 and '66. Hint: Player One was twice an All-Star with the Dodgers. Two of the players never pitched for any team other than the Mets, and they spent just one year in the majors. The fourth guy also pitched for the Cardinals, in 1964. Hint: Player One is Clem Labine, who was guessed. Player Two died in 1985 at 44 years old. Player Three is still alive and kicking, having been born in 1946. Player Four is also still alive, but he was born way back in '38. --originally posted by "milladrive" 3. Who is the only Mets pitchers in team history to start two games in a row that the team played in the same season? Hint: Pitcher One debuted for the Mets in '67 and Pitcher Two debuted for the Mets in 2014. Hint: Player One last pitched for the Red Sox. Player Two is still active, last playing for the Rangers. Hint: Player Two was already guessed—Jacob DeGrom. Player One, was pretty terrific, playing until 1986. --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 4. Which Met holds the record for grounding into double plays in a single season? Hint: First played for the Mets in 1998. Hint: Played for the Mets until 2005. Hint: Was a catcher. --originally posted by "milladrive" 5. 2. More hints added above.
  3. deGrom and Labine are correct, however to get a point in the tally at the bottom of the post, all the correct names need to be given. I tend to give out when a question is answered incorrectly, so don't be afraid to be wrong.
  4. Hints have been added.

  9. That's correct on the order, well done. A couple more questions have been added, with hints added for the rest. 1. Who got the save on Mets Opening Day 1989 but only got one other save for the Mets in his career after that? Hint: Pitched just one year for the Mets, 1989. --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 2. In the movie "The Odd Couple" there was a fictitious game between the Pirates and the Mets at Shea and Bill Mazeroski of the Pirates hit into a game ending triple play and the Mets won 1-0. 10. The answer regarding Chilcott is correct. As it pertains to the home run leaders, the names are right, but the order is wrong. It's hard to give hints for that one, but I'll do my best. Here are the home run totals for the top five: 157, 140, 127, 104 and 81. #1 debuted for the Mets in 1998, #2 in 2004, #3 in 2005, #4 in 2006 and #5 in 2003.
  11. That's correct about Chiti. Though it's part of the lore, it might not be technically correct that he was "traded" for himself, however ... I once read what actually happened (but forgot what I read), and Baseball Reference doesn't even list it as a trade. Rather, it says he was purchased from Cleveland, then returned to Cleveland. The word "trade" was never used. Anyway, a new question has been added. 1. Who got the save on Mets Opening Day 1989 but only got one other save for the Mets in his career after that? --originally posted by "Joe Rigatoni" 2.
