Whether I like it or not, its been a part of the Mets for what - almost 30 years now? I'm glad they are putting it on display outside the new place. Someone here said it already - it will be to Met fans what that big, stupid bat in the Bronx has been - a place to meet before the game - "meet me at the Apple" So, I'm cool. I do hope that the new Apple inside ShittyField (that was for Val) does not have a top-hat though.

  10. I'll clarify or at least dignify... I really liked WarGames and did not care much for Some Kind of Wonderful. Okay? Everybody feel better now?
  11. "you know what I'm sayin?" "there's no question about it."
  12. Ally Sheedy again! War Games.
  13. "He was wearing my Hahvahd tie! Can you believe it? My Hahvahd tie! Like, oh sure, he went to Hahvahd!" This should be a bracket buster, the seedings are completely upside down on this one.
  14. Ruthless people definitely deserves some respect here but its up against a classic. Got to go with sexy goth Ally Sheedy.
  15. Poltergeist for me. Loved the dead indians (or was iot just regular dead people?) coming out of the pool.

  21. Ted Whitcomb, El Centro, Calif.: Professional baseball: A runner is on third base with one out and is the potential winning run. A short fly is hit to the outfield and runner attempts to score. He wants a jogging lead, so as the ball is in the air, he takes a few steps away from third and toward second. The runner times it so that the catch is made as he streaks by third. In doing so, he touches the bag simultaneously with the catch. Was this a legal play? Was the runner allowed those few steps so he could get a faster start from third? Have you seen this play attempted? I would say that I don't see anything wrong with it but its risky as it would most definitely be appealed and left to the ump's judgement whether or not the runner hit the base after the catch. That being said, I'll guess that its not a legal play. The running start thing smells fishy. Hal the Referee:I haven't heard it, but theoretically it could occur this way: let's say the bases are loaded and the batter lifts a high fly between home and third. The runner from first, losing sight of the ball, is off and running. He passes the runner who is on second. One out. The runner on third moves off his base a few feet and stands there. The fly hits him on the head. He's out -- and how. The batter is out because it's an infield fly. There you have it. Three outs with the ball untouched by human hands. Hmmmmm. Very suspicious that Hal came up with a scenario that years later Showalter said happened in exactly the same way. I call 'bullshit' on Buck.
  22. I've only been to two of the 'new' parks (Camden & PETCO), and I agree with Grimm that the best thing about them are the wide pedestrian walkways.
  23. Looks like U.S. Cellular Park in Chicago.
  24. ] PEAVY MAY BE HEADED TO ATLANTA By JOEL SHERMAN October 22, 2008 -- ST. PETERSBURG - The Jake Peavy sweepstakes will proceed concurrently with the World Series, and the expectation of major league executives polled over the past two days is that the Braves are going to end up with the Padre right-hander. Several executives who have stayed abreast of the talks believe Peavy, who has a no-trade provision, prefers to go to the Astros, in part because his hunting buddy, Roy Oswalt, is already there. But Houston has a poor farm system and will have great difficulty delivering an acceptable package. "Honestly, I have no idea how they put something together acceptable for the Padres," an AL executive said. The Braves, on the other hand, have the base from which to make a deal and a history of packaging youngsters to get veterans they crave such as Mark Teixeira and Tim Hudson. They also are willing to move quickly, as exhibited by the Oct. 29 deal made last year in which they obtained Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez from Detroit for Edgar Renteria, the first major trade of the past offseason. And the Braves appear more motivated than the Cardinals, Cubs or Dodgers to jump out for Peavy. "Don't discount the (Braves manager) Bobby Cox factor," an AL GM said. "He is a veteran manager. He is used to winning. His team hasn't made the playoffs for a few years now. He is influential in the organization. And he wants players who can win now. So I can see him really pushing to get a Peavy deal done." The executives spoken to say they anticipate a Braves package being built around pitcher Tommy Hanson and outfielder Jordan Schafer, who both peaked at Double-A last year, plus a middle infielder, either shortstop Yunel Escobar or second baseman Kelly Johnson. Another AL GM said, "That is really a good deal if San Diego can make it." joel.sherman@nypost.com
