  1. The biggest thing for me was just adjusting to the velocity, of seeing 90 to 92 [MPH] every day, said Doyle. You see that speed in college, but just not as much, and here you see it every day. I'm sure he means when batting but I wonder if catching pitchers that throw that hard everyday takes an adjustment as well. In college players use metal bats, so Doyle is also getting used to using wooden bats in professional baseball. It was a little bit of an adjustment, he said. But I had used them in summer ball. Why? Are the wooden bats lighter? Heavier?
  2. But can't you just see this as comic book series?
  3. Saw it. Gave it 3.5 bats. It was good, entertaining but long, and as Vic said - all over the place. As we left my 11 year-old said 'That made Iron Man look like 'Blue's Clues'
  4. Yeah the Adam West - Burt Ward TV series was great. All the stars appearing as campy over-the-top villans - Cesar Romero as the Joker, Victor Borge as King Tut (my personal fave), Burgess Meredith (Penguin), Frank Gorshin (Riddler)...on and on. My brother-in-law bought Frank Gorshin's house in Westport, CT. He told me that when they started remodeling they pulled down some wallpaper and the entire wall behind it was green and covered with question marks! Wasn't true, he was pulling my leg but he had me totally freaked out for a good 30 seconds.

The two of them are unrelated to any previous Batman movies, just as Casino Royale was a sort of "restart" for the James Bond movies Speaking of which - I saw a preview for the new 007 movie a few weeks back. 'Quantam of Solace' whatever the fuck that means. You know there won't be any female character named Pussy Galore or Octopussy or Holly Goodhead or Plenty O'Toole or... December 2008 I think it said.

    Hellboy II

My 9 year-old wants to see this but neither he nor I know anything about Hellboy. Is it necessary to see the first one before checking this out?
  8. Much better than 'Legend'. This is a well written story and you genuinely care about Hancock and what he's doing and what happens to him. Not easy to do in a superhero movie. I didn't even care about most of the action scenes, I wanted it to just get back to the story. Jason Bateman is good but Smith is the show here. It's not a perfect movie but very enjoyable.
  9. Great! I loved it. So much more than just a superhero movie. there are a few old comic book nerds in this place and if you are one of them (Ben Grimm) go see this. It's like a 10 issue story. Character development, mystery, bad guys, twists, turns, origins. Its got it all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am not a Will Smith fan. He was excellent though.
  10. Saw it, liked it. Thought the Bixby and Ferrigno cameos were a nice touch. The climactic battle on the Harlem rooftops was a bit too Spiderman 3 for me. Thought Norton did a serviceable job.
  11. I just remember Ray Liotta sitting at a table with half of his skull removed. Stupid movie.
  12. Ska originated in the '70s? I would have bet my first born it was firmly '80s.
  13. I remember the song 'Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer Go.....!' but I don't remember it saying in the song that Racer X was Speed's brother. Of course any Speed Racer fan knew that, but I'm amazed to hear that it was in the song. OE: I misread Lunchables post. Yet again I'm an idiot and seriously considering enrolling in remedial reading comprehension classes at the local CC.
  14. Is Racer X in the movie?
  15. I've heard its just awful.
  16. Saw it Sat. Night. Great superhero flick. Best so far. Enjoyed it very much. As to Vlad's question about the last-last scene: If you are not a superfan of Marvel comic books and don't really know the characters and their history except through the movies, then the scene is not awesome and won't mean much to you at all. It's 30 seconds of 2 guys talking. If you are a superfan - it's great and has a lot of meaning. I went with a friend and we waited and waited for the credits to end. After the scene I had a big grin on my face and he looked at me and said "why'd we have to wait for that?"
  17. Based on the true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery which was prevented from being told for over thirty years because of a Government gagging order. The real story of how one of the biggest robberies in British history took place with no arrests ever made nor money ever recovered. Written by Mark Thomas In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in London's Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth over three million pounds. None of it was recovered. Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then disappeared - the result of a 'D' Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden for the first time. The story involves murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved Go see this movie. Loved it! I gave it 5 looted safe deposit boxes. It had it all, money, sex, drugs, violence, scandal, intrigue, 1971 London. No actors I knew except for Jason Statham. On Edit: Safety Deposit Boxes? What am I - a moron?
  18. I'd never seen anyone wearing red pants until that picture of Edgy.
  19. Dug it.
  20. Saw this on PPV last night. I liked it and gave it 7 Magic Buses. The cinematography was outstanding. Really beautiful landscape shots. I thought the acting on all fronts was very good. Excellent cast - William Hurt, Catherine Keener, Hal Holbrook, Marcia Gay Harden, Vince Vaughn... Rather than think the kid was selfish, I felt for him. He was searching for something and was sure he knew where to find it. Unfortunately he was wrong. Soundtrack was great.
  21. I gave it a 7. Remember liking it. I am a fan of two of the 'Vacation' movies - 'Vacation' and 'Christmas Vacation' 'Christmas Vacation' was less about Chevy and all about Randy Quaid. Didjaknow - that the actress that played Randy Quaid's daughter, Cousin Vicki (the one that felt she was a good French kisser because 'Daddy says I'm the best'), in the original 'Vacation' was Jane Krakowski who now plays Jenna on '30 Rock'?
  22. Fame -- Eh. More interested in hearing Soupy's stories of being in performing arts HS. Soup, tell us about dance class, will you, dear? I will now educate you. I went to The Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art. At the time it was housed on the campus of City College in a building on 137th street and Convent Avenue in Manhattan. This high school was for students who either sang, played musical instruments, sculpted, painted and/or drew. I happened to have a bit of talent as an illustrater but that was a looong time ago. The High School for The Performing Arts was located somewhere in or around Times Square. P.A., as it was referred to (as opposed to 'M&A' for my school), was for musicians and other performers - singers, dancers, actors. Sometime around 1990 or so I think, both schools merged into The Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and The Performing Arts. The school has since been housed in a building behind Lincoln Center adjacent to Martin Luther King, Jr. High School. When I was a student at M&A there was no dancing. I can regale you with stories of running to the subway at 2:57 pm so us priveledged white kids from 'downtown' could get the hell out of Dodge before all the other public schools in Harlem let out and we became the favored prey of the local kids.
  23. Alan Parker films I've seen - Bugsy Malone - I thought this movie was weird when I saw it, but I remember liking it. Midnight Express - Great movie - still scares the shit out of me. Fame - I was a student at the High School of Music & Art when this movie was made and released. The student body of my school as well as the High School of Preforming Arts (the two schools upon which the movie was based) were given free tickets to a showing the week the movie opened. The NYC Board of Ed was also given a preview and after seeing it, they deemed the movie 'unsuitable' for the students to see (I always thought Irene Cara's breasts had a lot to do with that) and tried to get the tickets back from the students. They weren't very successful. I remember having a great time at the showing we all went to at some theater in Times Square. They used a lot of students as extras in the movie and whenever someone we recognized appeared on the screen there was raucous cheering. Side note: Erica Gimpel, who played Coco on the TV series, was a friend and junior high school classmate of mine. I believe she went to Performing Arts Pink Floyd's "The Wall" - Have never seen it without being stoned so I don't know if its any good. Birdy - Matthew Modine, right? I liked this movie a lot. Angel Heart - Lisa Bonet's breasts. The Commitments - Loved it.
  24. I remember really liking Ringo's 'Caveman'. Co-starring Dennis Quaid, Barbara Bach and John Matuszak.
  25. If I gave you a poll there would only be one option: How Much Does This Movie Suck? -A lot.
