  2. Is Jeff showing the form that got him drafted by the Mariners in the 80's, or is he posing for the J.C. Penney's catalog?

Otherwise I played a handful of games here and there (including with PatchyFogg), but something always kept getting in the way of seeing a season through from start to finish. Yes, I had the dubious good fortune of being the mid 80's Padres in those games. Damn, that John Birch Society-loving Eric Show and all his poor outings for me. Damn him to hell*! *I have no idea if that is where he is now. And, if he is, I had nothing to do with it. I swear.

  6. Yes, he was very dry though his columns do bear out his wonderful sense of humor. And, one thing that he does--unlike any other guest that we've ever had--is make a point, stop and wait for a question. So, I had to have a segue/transition ready waaay before I was ready. Plus, my co-host literally said 2 words during the interview. And those 2 words were "Thank God" when he learned that Fran Healy would not be on SNY.Dr.Z from Sports Illustrated was even more subdued--surprising given his columns, as well. Thanks for listening, and for the MP3 conversion tips.
  7. Well, the first thing that he said was "So, you've got too much time on your hands." I wasn't going to affirm his negative.
  8. Last night, we had on Newsdays Neil Best who is now penning the Sports Watch column which focuses on sports media and sports business. He also covered the football Giants for 10 years, and recently wrote a big article on Team Message Boards likes ours here. Here is the link: http://hosted.filefront.com/patchyfogg The interview runs for exactly 40 commercial-free minutes. I hope you find it informative. SNY was our stepping off point. Here are some of the topics that we covered in the interview (listed in the order in which they were discussed and with some expounding wherever possible): --The new Mets Network Sportsnet New York (SNY) --launching 3/16 --no agreements yet in place with Dish Network, DirecTV or Cablevision, but they are talking --confident that theyll make Opening Day 4/3, since the market is already set with YES. --Sports applying upward pressure to cable bills. --The Thurs/Sat NFL package will really force the issue --Distributors dont like ala carte channel arrangement --The new SNY Mets analysts (Cohen, Hernandez and Darling) --The Jets relationship with SNY --Neils take on NFL coaches not allowing assistants to speak to the media --Movement on the new stadiums (stadia?) in the Bronx and Flushing. --The Super Bowl/Playoffs matchups and ratings --ESPN Radios weak signal --Tiki Barbers outcoached comments --Neils memories of Wellington Mara (as well as Mr. Tisch) --Sports Message Boards --including Neil saying that It is a fact that beat writers look there every single day. --Roy Simmons --The snacks on Miked Up --Sid Rosenberg --The final game of the ESPN Sunday Night football crew and the new pairing for MNF --The Islanders --Eli Manning, including the press coverage of him, Ben Roethlisberger, Terry Bradshaw and the Mannings, Ron Dayne over Shaun Alexander --Differences between covering media people vs. covering athletes --James Carville getting a Sports Talk show on XM
  9. I think Ms. Howard included Cliffy's quote as a placeholder for a future article or book on being a woman covering sports.

  11. Carlos Delgado, Paul LoDuca, Billy Wagner and David Wright will be ringing the NYSE Opening Bell Tuesday morning.
  12. Here's my Carnac bit for a day: "Remember the Maine" What did Jim Duquette do when Omar told him he needed a white guy in the trade so that Anna's words wouldn't ring true?
  13. seawolf17 wrote: A google search for "mets caravan january 2006" brings me to Anna Benson's site, where she mentions she'll be there, January 23-26. So there you go. No, she won't.....

  16. Edgy DC wrote: The scouring has been done and I've come up empty. If you'd like to do me a favor, feel free to write him and ask if he has any photos of his wife to share. And, then I can follow up with "Wanna buy some?" An oldie but a goodie, I know. By the way, I made a "pig" of myself with a spit take on Frayed's Pro-shuto/Ham line.
  17. We must scour this website for Wifey Watch: http://www.yusaku-iriki.com/ Also, we can send him an e-mail there, too.
  18. Is this some new kind of Bill James stat?
  19. sharpie wrote: She would be the first Met wife to have a Quentin Tarantino movie made about her. Technically, Mrs. Sidd Finch was "Pulp Fiction."
  20. Great, now we have to delineate "mate" and "Mate" with this guy for the Wifey Watch thread....
  21. Perhaps the Cleon Jones question was dismissed as a "minor" one.......
  22. I always loved Mike Hampton saying that he would have charged Clemens. You know, it's not like Mr. Good Schools wasn't on the mound to take care of things himself or anything.
  23. Frayed:I have passed along the info to the Falcon that flies at Midnight.
  24. So, am I to understand that finding the Zambrano one may take more than 15 minutes?
  25. As a Notre Dame grad, I have Mr. Heilman's e-mail in our latest Alumni Directory if we ever need to resort to that. Maybe I'll book him for the show first, though.
