3. Jacobs looking silly missing that foul pop up. He fell down. I have a bad feeling about this.
4. Welcome back. What's been happening? I've enjoyed posting charts using code I've stolen from you.Widey Dickshot made the post of the year...it's in the Benson Bunch and the IGT where Ortiz started (which explains the context of the post) that has already spawned some duplicates.Oh yeah and the Mets won a couple of games. And scored some runs.
5. There are some that claim Met fans are brain-dead automatons that will believe any collection of scummy washed up vets are capable of winning the World Series if they are told so by the Met front office.
6. I don't have much of an argument here, I guess. His defense is bad. I'll just harp on how his offense was good a year ago and hope that makes an impact. There's not much I can do to defend Kaz here. He hasn't been good overall, outside of a decent hitting performance a year ago. I'll just say that while we don't have a better option (and career backup Miggy is not a better option) then we should keep plugging Kaz in there.

8. .971, 7 errors in 50 starts. You're right. Not good. But I would argue not terrible.I'm not into range factor and zone rating.
9. I'll agree with Rotty. I continually remind people, including myself, that he hit .272 last year with 32 doubles (tied for 25th all time as a Met single season mark) in only 114 games (projects to 42 doubles over 150 games). And for some strange reason people have complained about his defense this year, while I think it has been average or better. (Actually, the reason probably is no stranger than people saw him suck at shortstop, and saw him make an error this year, so assumed he sucked at second too.)

So...

You spelled Seo wrong.
11. I read that too, and I'm pretty sure it was written solely on the basis of Kaz not getting a start yesterday. Willie's recent comments directly contradict a lot of it. It should probably go in the "So You Think You're a Sportswriter" Thread. Stay away from Newsday. Bad news. This post was paid for by the Friends of KazMat.

And I trust Zvon to take the suggestion in the spirit in which it's intended. The Lost in Space reference is hysterical, btw.I like Zvon, I'm also hoping he doesn't take it as a mean-spirited observation.
14. The Mets own the contracts of eight pitchers who have enjoyed some success as a starter in the majors (some more recently than others). Here's a game: rank the players in order from first to worst who you would like to see start Game 7 of the World Series for the Mets if it was played tomorrow (assuming everyone was on their normal rest). Or, in other words, set up an eight man rotation (or more than eight if I'm missing any.)1) Pedro2) Benson -- I think Sunday's game was just a blip on the radar.3) Seo -- I don't trust him enough to put him over Benson yet. I'm kind of still wondering if the wheels will come off.4) Glavine -- I almost put him over Seo, but I feel like he could still get shellacked on a bad day.5) Heilman6) Trachsel -- This was a hard one, maybe I'm being too optimistic that he'll come out of the gate well. He could shoot up the ranks if we play this game again in a couple of weeks.7) Zambrano8) Ishii
15. I've been thinking about Pedro's lobby to keep Mike Jacobs on the team. I think I've decided that I don't like it. How is this statement, whether it had any impact or not (and according to Willie it didn't), any different than the alleged influence that Franco and Leiter had with the Mets' brass? Of course, no one will complain about this because of Jacobs' performance.Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have Jacobs start at first instead of Woody, Offerman, Anderson, Cairo, etc. I'd rather have him play there instead of Minky too, unless his hitting performance goes to a sub-Minky level. But I'm a little surprised that no one has complained in the media that Pedro should keep his opinions to himself on who should and should not be on the roster. (Actually, I'm not surprised, they won't nitpick over things like that unless he is pitching poorly.) To be completely honest, I don't think Pedro should in any way be making statements such as he did. His job is to pitch and act silly in the dugout. For the record, I don't think it's a big deal. In the grand scheme of things, it's one little innocent statement, and Pedro's known and praised for speaking his mind. But I've been thinking about baseball nonstop for this entire week, and it bothers me just enough that I felt like posting about it.
16. nymets.com:]Piazza said he hopes to be able to "take light swings this weekend," but he remains uncertain whether he will be able to play Wednesday when he is eligible to come off the disabled list. Piazza characterized the condition of his right wrist -- he had a hairline fracture of a bone that connects to the pinky -- as "cranky."
17. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2143002Suspended batboy mulling two offersGot milk? An unidentified Florida Marlins batboy does. After the batboy was suspended six games for accepting a dare from Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny, a former Marlin, to drink a gallon of milk in less than an hour without vomiting, the Milk Processor Education Program wants to compensate him. The group is offering the batboy $500, the original prize of the dare, along with any lost wages from the suspension as long as he promises to drink the recommended three glasses of milk a day (just not all in one sitting). In addition, the Fort Myers Miracle, the Minnesota Twins' Single-A affiliate in the Florida State League, have offered him an honorary batboy position during their game Monday night against the Tampa Yankees."Similar to a rehab stint, we want to help this kid stay on top of his game," Miracle GM Steve Gliner said. "Instead of crying over spilt milk, we decided to offer him the honorary post."All kids 14 and under will receive a pint of milk upon entering the stadium. The Miracle will also have a cow at the front gates and literature will be passed out on the importance of drinking milk. Empty milk cartons will be placed around the ballpark, so fans can donate money to the out-of-work batboy. The offers come in the wake of a Miami Herald report Wednesday that the Marlins suspended the unidentified batboy for the team's upcoming six-game homestand against the Cardinals and Mets from Aug. 28 through Sept. 4 for accepting the dare Sunday. Penny told the paper the boy drank the milk and didn't throw up, but didn't finish the gallon in the allotted time frame to win the dare."It's kind of ridiculous that you get a 10-game suspension for steroids and a six-game suspension for milk," Penny told the Herald. "It's ridiculous that they worry about stuff like that. It shows they [the Marlins organization] don't know anything about the game. That kind of stuff goes on everywhere. It didn't affect the way he worked, the way he did his job," he said.
18. They'll get Halsey a start in this series, at least.
19. Did the Kid have a short stint with the Jints?
20. This article came out less than a week before Doc's latest escapade. Sadly, this is less coincindental due to the frequency with which Doc's name appears in the paper.

22. From the Sports Guy's mailbag:]Why doesn't Roger Clemens' name come up in the "Guess who's on steroids" game? He's 43 years old. Up to 235 pounds (a good 50 more than when he broke into the league). And after averaging a 4.0 ERA from 1999-2003, he suddenly becomes unhittable. Useless speculation, I know. But I like to insinuate bad things about Asshead.
23. Maybe it's just me, but the blinking busy signature lines can be annoying. If it's just me I'll shut up.
24. Sure why not. I don't care about crap like that as long as it doesn't affect the outcome. Choice A or B is fine.
