  1. Cowering in terror.
  2. I'm not random. I'm Elster.
  3. Buck.
  4. I think you realized I was kidding, but in case anyone else out there didn't realize, I was just making fun of the juxtaposition of the two quotes.
  5. That is a disgusting picture. Even worse than the streaker at the soccer game. _______________ This post had the designation 74) Nolan Ryan
  6. metsmarathon wrote: um, cliffy.... next time just use "keys" or maybe "wallet" ="Edgy DC"]In Cornelius' defense, the article is written by Johnnette Howard, so he may have been trying to come up with an illustration that's meaningful for her. I don't think women should be allowed car keys either.
  7. ="Marty Noble"]Who can say whether the Mets have insights into Julio, that they know something that will make him as effective as he was in 2002? I added the bold. The hope is that he can reach a level from 4 seasons ago. I am so angry. I am an angry man. Deep breaths.
  8. These trades were so bad that they're even the main topic of conversation in the Quotes thread. I can't get away from them. I'm going to go hang out in the NBF.
  9. LOL, seawolf. Considering that Benson's value is much higher than Trachsel's value, we might have to see if there's a reliever with a 2005 ERA over 7 that we can snag.
  10. ]It's not as strong as it obviously was with Kris and Jae," Steve Trachsel said about the rotation. Good thing improving the bullpen was more important than keeping the rotation as strong as possible. (Do I even need to post my SC here?) Not that we necessarily improved the bullpen either. Pulling Heilman out and putting Sanchez and Julio in weakens it in my opinion. I'm so mad. I'm much angrier than I should be over baseball. I still think CF put it perfectly by describing how the Benson trade weakens the rotation and the bullpen.
  11. Everytime I mention that I hate all Yankee fans I have to remind myself that that's not fair. There are probably plenty of Silvers in the fan base. She just happens to be the only one I have personally conversed/posted with.
  12. ]I don't buy the "they're not through" reasoning, though. "Let's trade some of our good players for not-so-good players, because later we plan to trade our not-so-good players for good players"? I agree. 1000%. I say judge the trade as is. Then later, when something is done you can always change your opinion. My favorite example: I was totally against the Pedro signing at first. I thought we were overpaying and that he would be shot towards the end of the contract. But then Beltran said that one of the main reasons he came to the Mets was because Pedro was here. So at the point I thought to myself that it was worth it to overpay if we got Beltran too. Being the non-weenie that I am, I said that I hated the Pedro pickup at first. Then I went back after Beltran signed and said "Hey look, there's new evidence. I will reevaluate my judgement." I have to agree with Bret on this one, assuming the bad move is a prelude to a good move doesn't work. I can almost understand that people are saying they are going to reserve judgement until they see if we get another pitcher, though I tease them and call them weenies. But some people are going so far as to say they LIKE the trade because it must mean there's something more to come. Pure idiocy. You know what you do when you assume, don't you?
  13. metsmarathon wrote: pretend the above sentence is written in the future tense. Huh? You lost me. I'm just curious why you're thinking Heilman will be a better pitcher than Benson.
  14. ]In the spot, John Leguizamo, the actor, left a message on GM Omar Minaya's answering machine requesting tickets. Leguizamo also congratulated Minaya for signing "Pedro (Martinez) and Carlos (Beltran)" before joyfully proclaiming "Latins in the hooooooooouse!" WFAN's Richard Neer said the commercial was "over the top." Many callers agreed. What they meant to say was this: How dare the Mets cater to anyone other than their white suburbanite fan base. Or maybe, just maybe, they only meant the commercial was over the top. Not everyone has a hidden agenda. Crazy idea, I know. Sounds like it was over the top. Of course, I'm white and I only want 25 clones of David Wight, er Wright, on my team.
  15. ]The lunacy started last March when a few sports radio talkies, and their first-time-long-time disciples, began foaming at the mouth over a Mets radio commercial. Is Raismann the guy who is always bashing M&MD?
  16. It's good to see that Matsui wasn't shot in that photo on the Library steps.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: No Steve Phillips fan here, but signing Lenny Harris first did not mean it was the first priority. It meant it was easily doable. I never knew why that was something that was fixated on. Don't you know that signing an established bench player to come off the bench severly blocks the younger players in the farm system? You friggin Kool-Aid drinker. (SC = 100)
  18. GYC wrote: I don't remember much of it because I was only 10, and didn't follow it religiously like I do now, but the one I do remember was Mike Hampton. I hated it when he left because I really liked him... Now, I love it. Our compensation? David Wright. The most perfect human being on the face of the earth. You are younger than I thought.
  19. I have never lost my purse.
  20. ]I have a feeling also it was kind of like the Al Leiter situation where the Mets gave Mike something they knew he would turn down, so they could go to the media and fans and say "Hey he didn't want to come back" Despite the general notion that the front office makes many of their moves based on how it will play in the local tabloids (Post, Daily News, etc.), I doubt the front office worries about how it will look to the fans.
  21. I still crack up when he's referred to as the Angry Puppy. It's the comedic gift that keeps on giving.
  22. Nymr83 wrote: ="Elster88"]I'd advise not to worry too much about what the call-in radio folk worry about. I might have missed something, but the time I heard them discussing it M&MD were just commenting on the oddity, not concluding Omar had an agenda. i'm NOT saying there is an agenda...but the coincidences are fun to joke about... and even if there was an agenda Mike and the Angry Puppy would never make that accusation...they wouldn't want to suddenly get no interviews with Omar, Willie, and possibly other GMs/Coaches who don't like those words flowing around. I didn't say you said there was an agenda. Watch out about the jokes you make though. If they're expected they're not really funny.
  23. Haha. Eating my words is always fun. In my defense, I was a child when my hate began. _______________ This post had the designation 75)Frank Viola
  24. It's nice that we don't have to worry about having Piazza on our team, since we're set in the backup catcher department. I coulda sworn that Mets' management said Piazza would not accept a reduced role.
  25. ]how M&MD picked up on that almost immediately and (with a nod to long-ago supposed bad feelings between MP and Pedro's brother Ramon) declared by about the 3rd time around the rotation that "it's obvious Pedro has gone to mgmt and told them he wants no part of Piazza". [M&MD apologist] This is not how I remember it. They didn't say it was obvious, they said it was what they thought was going on. It was more Russo than Francessa. Then, when Pedro pitched to Mike the next day (it was a game where Piazza went like 11 for 13), they spent the first ten minutes of their next show saying they screwed up and got it completely wrong. And they said they thought it dated back to Mikey's spring training attack with that bitch on the Marlins and Pedro's comments following. I don't remember Ramon as part of the conversation.[/M&MD apologist]
