  1. Soupy leather.
  2. Wow, well I'll be damned. Triple play.

Howie (on air with CJ Nitkowski today) suggested the uncomfortable beds at the Mets' hotel on this trip. Terry as recently as this morning insisted Wright's shoulder was ok. Mucho gracias. Looking at a replay of EYoungs triple. Holy crapoli, it was a grounder through 2nd that went all the way to the wall. Glad it was called a hit but come on, one step to the 2nd basemans right. Was a freakin rocket tho.

I'll be pretty thrilled if Duda hits 30. That would be sweet. I shouldn't get ahead of myself, but for next season I'm putting him down for 40+.

  6. I forgot that a number of stadiums mentioned here were built around the time that Shea was. I was thinking of Riverfront, Three Rivers, the Vet, big bowls like those. I guess that would be a more 70's flair. Can't say I miss any of those. And I went to many games at the Vet. Veterans Stadium was okay. I didn't like artificial turf at all, as was the case with all above.

The only things about Dodger Stadium that I thought were better than Shea are the open concourses (so you can still see the game from the concessions stands) and that there was a full set of bleachers in the outfield. Considering those two big differences what made them similar to you? I've always thought of Shea & Dodger stadium as night and day. The two things you mention (kinda big differences) and Dodger Stadium seemed lower to the ground, more spread out, I thought. I've never been there though so I could be wrong. Dodger Stadium should be on my stadium list. It really does look beautiful.
  8. Not the double switch. Going to the bullpen? Someone guess right. I want to read the article.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: It wouldn't have taken 50 years. But amirght? Was yesterday's ballgame just a bea-yoo-ti-ful thing to watch or what? Yea it was. But to me it was more the time of day that made it beautiful. The bright sun playing off brilliantly green grass under a deep blue sky. It doesn't really matter where, though a day game at Wrigley would top my list. Caught a day game there in the early 90's and that's an experience everyone should have. Time stands still there.
  10. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Light analytical piece about "meddling" baseball managers here, ranking managers across a range of moves such as pinch hitting, sacs, intentional bb's and seven other categories. John Gibbons is Grantland's most meddlesome manager. Terry Collins ranks 9th, much closer to the top than to the bottom. But there's one category that Terry leads all other managers in, and more or less blows away the competition. What's that category? No peeking. Bunting? Isn't that exactly what managers should be doing? Meddling?
  11. I've said it belore. 50 years from now Shea could have been the Fenway of cookie cutter stadiums with all kinds of rich history. I didn't really consider her a cookie cutter because they were closed in, but she was lumped right in there with them. So which is the only stadium from the 1960's-70's that has survived? What ballpark will represent that period of time in the future? Dodger Stadium? Beautiful park but not a typical one during those years.
  12. I was afk. Only 5.2?..103..Oh, that 3 game 330 thing. Ugh. I forgot about that. Keith didn't. Wheeler out/Edgin in and Ks an A to end the 6th. 8-4 mid 7th.
  13. Oh boy. Lol. Boots his boot. OHHHHHHHHMurphy. 7-4
  14. Dannys glove magically avoids the ball.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Well, nobody said that the 7-2 score would be the final score! Oh! Of course.*Slaps forehead Then JCL is credited with a prediction that came true. Books on that.
  16. 7-2 This is strange because now I'm rooting for us not to score.
  17. We had to get the two out of the way sooner or later. Now how will we score our two more runs? DooBooTwo?
  18. Edgy MD wrote: How far off the plate was that pitch Murphy hit? Gameday suggests it was at least six inches. It was outside and he flicked it. That far? Maybe.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Wait... what? I had no idea a game was going on. I guess I assumed it was another of those 10 p.m. starts. And an off day tomorrow, right? TC should have waited, given Murph today and the off day rest. He could have used two in a row. Danny lines a nice single there. Come on Davey. Earn your keep.
  20. Wow. That was not on my list of possibilities. Campbell sends one into orbit. 1-0 Mets
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Oakland's lineup today features 6 lefties and 3 switchies. Wheeler won't see a RHB all day. Mex insures us we will see Edgin, and we probably will, but I'd much rather see a complete game shutout win. Tall order though, with Wheeler on the mound. Lets see 7 solid Zack! 8 gets you mucho brewiski.
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Honestly if the Mets believe in MDD's bat he's got to be the center fielder and Lagares the one they should dangle on the trade market. Crazy talk. If he becomes a Rey-Rey in center I'll have something different to say. I think he can be a .280, 20 HR kinda guy. Some stolen bases in there- just when really needed. Okay, I wish for that. Edgy MD wrote: I like the notion of keeping Laggy and dD around together and maybe building a Dykstra/Wilson leadoff-hitting-centerfield-platoon-corner-outfield-sub-defensive-replacement machine. A machine! I love the idea of this. Another wish. Worth wishing though. denD could become a good hitter. Do I waste a wish on that? The rules say you only get three. Harvey coming back better would be #2. I'm gonna keep my third wish in my hip pocket for awhile and allow denD to impress me.
  23. They suck but we'll win this one. Cause we're not supposed to. After that, back to suckage. NYM: (59-67, 29-35 away) D. Gee (4-5, 3.69 ERA) OAK: (73-51, 40-21 home) S. Kazmir (13-5, 2.78 ERA) This is an inter-league game. 10:05 start
