  2. This tweet amused me. Feels like both the appropriate and inappropriate venue for it. Hooters with the boys for the WNBA all star game

Another game on a Sunday night rather than Sunday afternoon, plus it's against the Jets opener, and of course, now ESPN and Bobby V. can talk about 9-11. it might be against the Jets opener you mean. (not that that matters, meaningless Mets baseball over any Jets/football game, always)
  4. what, another one of those multi-hit games? Above the 1.5 a game average he needs for the club record. wheee..
  5. and another one.
  6. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Well, that was disappointing. (H/T to Mike C.) that, and a couple of really long fly balls so far this game, but nothing to show for it.
  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: 4 LOB, 3 innings. Not a fantastic start. Beltran and Turner both times. Come on guys!
  8. well, a Turner Double and a Beltran walk, but three fly outs otherwise no score. Making good contact, Hensley not really fooling them so far. Should be a good sign.
  9. That last part was great. I think I know that lake too, I drove that way to the park once, got cursed at by a crossing guard in front of a school. I hope he means they got visited by a raccoon once..not caught it out of the lake? Santana said the season-long absence from the Mets has been passable because he has his children with him while rehabbing. He also has gone fishing on occasion with injured first baseman Ike Davis at a pond behind the Mets' Port St. Lucie complex. "I didn't know how to fish," Santana said. "Ike, every time he casts, he gets something. I was like, 'Again?' And I was just hanging there, just being careful for a snake or something -- I don't know, an alligator. We got a raccoon one time. It came out of nowhere. I was like, 'Oh, god.' But it was a great time."
  10. Jason Bay, 7 hitter.
  11. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: David Wright is gonna make a desperate run for MVP. If David Wright accumulates enough to make that desperate run, it'd be virtually impossible for the Mets to lose even a dozen more games. Where do I sign?
  12. well there was a specific chapter involving an acquired speedster talking with some coaches and them telling him how he really shouldn't be trying to steal bases or Beane will come down on him. (moneyball the book that is, not 'moneyball' the perceived way the Oakland A's did/do run the club)
  13. Edgy DC wrote: No wonder I didn't hear anything on the audiofeed. Strange. gameday also says it happened after the first out in the 9th.
  14. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: It was Pridie. GameDay's crackish. it also gave me a "7 strikeouts" badge for Pelfrey when he struck out _batting_ earlier in the game.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: By the way, not to be overlooked, Carlos Beltran made his Mets debut in left tonight, swappping positions with Jason Pridie with one out in the ninth and Logan Morrison coming up. Anybody able to enlgihten me about what that was all about? wait, he did? so says gameday. That's odd. is it an error? I thought it was Pridie out there making that last catch, but i wasn't paying that close a ttention to who it was, and Gary said it was Pridie, so he clearly didn't know..
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: G: "Between speed and Moneyball, sir... give me speed every time." K: "I never saw Moneyball force any throwing errors, or make any pitchers nervous. Moneyball never won a championship, like we did under Whitey in '82." G: "Speed sure did make that ground ball hop over Sanchez' glove there, Keith." K: "Speed is EVERYTHING, Gar. Moneyball never caused a balk, or made a good knockwurst, or led a successful World War." G: "Sure didn't. 1-0 count to Wright here." As if 'Moneyball' ever dismissed speed as an asset. more the Stolen Base than speed.
  17. Isringhausen 1 Parnell 1 Murphy 2 Pelfrey 1 Reyes .5 Turner .5 Wright 2.5
  18. I've always kinda liked Parnell. Thought he had the makeup to be a good reliever. slider on 3-2 to get him looking? nice..
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Randy Choate entered the game with 45 appearances and 20 1/3 innngs. Is that like the OO-iest of LOOGys you've ever seen? yeah, that's up there quite a bit. Also means he's been fairly ineffective. shame the Braves won.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Choate comes in to face Murphy. Any chance you go to Evans? I would a month ago. But July has totally been Murphy's month. and thankfully, no. 2-run lead? 2-run lead.
  21. Wasn't directed just at you, but there is this idea out there that Pelfrey should be awesome. GKR bringing up Randy is just an example of that. Pelfrey did settle in . He's been pretty good at that. Keeping them in the game. He hasn't had has many starts that resemble an amazing start this year compared to last, but he hasn't had that many games that the Mets have just been out of it. Anyway, Reyes bloop double. a gift, likely, but hey, another 2 hit game. he may just catch that record yet. Johan in the dugout. (okay, you beat me on those. but hey, Johan! in a Mets dugout!)
  22. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know if net ability is the issue. The guy has 96-MPH heat and stamina. Those are abilities. he lacks a particularly effective breaking pitch, control, and a sequence that crosses people up. But he has more ability than a lot of people. Me, for instance. I'm not sure I'd've let him bat this inning. it's the control. Is that not an ability? Is that not what separates average from good from great? Sometimes Pelfrey doesn't have that control, much more often than Johnson (besides the obvious that he's a strikeout guy and one of the best _ever_) The idea that Pelfrey should be able to intimidate and dominate because he's tall like Randy is about as baseless as he should dominate because he's a number one draft pick. He's not that guy, let's let it go and stop killing him because he doesn't live up to lofty expectations.
  23. G-Fafif wrote: Gary suggested sometimes the biggest kids in their class have hangups about being too aggressive -- so we are now officially out of excuses for Mike Pelfrey. (Mrs. Fafif on the theory: "What about Randy Johnson?") Gary did counter with Johnson pretty fast. Johnson was even mean to NY cameramen. Think there could be a difference between a California guy born in the 60s versus a Kansas native from the 80s. upbringing and all. but intimidation only actually goes so far. the major difference is ability.
  24. Really messed up: Whenever I tune in to GameDay, they show a backdrop of the home park with the place packed with adoring fans. Wherever they are --- Flushing, Arlington, Oakland --- the stands are depicted as full. Except in Miami, where there are scatterings of fans filling about 35% of a sea of orange seats. Incredible. Other than the World Series game, when I've been to that stadium the team doesn't even sell the upper deck outfield seats. They're usually covered with a tarp. They've actually officially shut the upper level down for the rest of the season. (They had only been available for weekend night games, anyway.) Actually, they've shut them down _forever_ which might explain the lack of tarp. Let the Dolphins worry about it.
  25. 3-0 on a long sac fly from Pagan. He smashed it, but dead center.
