  1. sad day, but at least initial reports seem to suggest quite a haul.

Later turned on the TV and heard Gary said he "misspoke" when he read the same thing and corrected the order to Kranepool, Reyes, Wright (though Keith immediately sold out the PR department for having it wrong in the first place). Obviously not enough Metsian big shots tracking Jose vs. David vs. the Krane. Not for nothing, but I noted that error months ago (it's been listed as Wright needing X hits to reach 2nd for a while) Especially on the radio when they're trying to shove things into between pitches, even the best often just read it without processing what they're reading. It's up to the color guy to analyze it. (good job Keith, bad job Wayne?)
  6. Think it was an Olney quote that said they weren't getting top prospect. Whatever. someone obviously has to take the dissenting point, to seem like they're doing the work of reading every GMs mind. My intepretation of all the reports (which I'm not sure is any less accurate than anyone elses) is that if Alderson doesn't get someone he actually likes in return, he may just keep Beltran. Between his and Terry's quotes I think they're competing to fielding a competitive team, even if that's only the .500 competitive they've been doing for a while now. With the Mets OF struggling (Lucas Duda may be the next best OFer..which is..disturbing) maybe they keep him. Or maybe that's just the threat Alderson's using to get that top prospect. who knows?
  7. could cost the Mets Carlos Beltran, or at least seal the deal. And to top it off. it was SCOTT PROCTOR with the walkoff hit. and he fell down on his way to first.
  8. wait, why did the Nats trade for Gomes?

Gotta be a Pirate fan right now, though. I always aim for the head. or at least the neck. Go Pirates..let's see these Braves lose. (I suppose the head is Philly)

  13. attgig wrote: they'll start to get exciting. An outfield of McCutchen, Tabata, and Jones. Infield of Jones, Walker, Cedeno, Alvarez, and Doumit. it's a pretty solid lineup ... though most of the guys are going to need time to grow... But in a couple of years, If Alvarez, McCutchen, & Tabata develop as they have been, Jones keeps on getting better bit by bit, and Doumit can stay healthy, they could be good. As for their pitching, Mcdonald was actually pretty good last year for being on such a bad team. Maholm and Ohlendorf have shown they have the stuff, but just need to improve. I'm guessing Correia is going to be their #2, and Olsen a #3/4. Optimistically, if their pitching pans out, they can flirt with 500 this year. and perhaps beat it next year. good call.
  14. Ramon Castro? (I assume one of them is gonna be a feast or famine type backup catcher that usually batted 8th)
  15. TransMonk wrote: Was there ever an injury contigency on this one? Niese 105 Wright 46 probably should've been. Niese is currently 23rd in the NL in strikeouts. He pitches tonight, 6 would get him to 17th (ignoring what others do) Niese is at 7.6 K/9 which would be 169 over 200 innings. Wright's got 46 Ks in 43 games. That's 173 over 162.

  21. Edgy DC wrote: I agree. He's strong. He's intimidatingly large and athletic. He's got a history of health. He throws 96. He's got sink. There's probably a pitching coach or manager or pitcher or shrink or woman or man out there that can help him turn those ingredients into a recipe for a tasty stew of success. I'd rather keep the talent and get a new pitching coach.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I don't know if it's true or not, but I've read a few reports that said that there is zero interest among other teams in trading for Mike Pelfrey. The fear, I assume, is that his arbitration award is going to significantly higher than his value. It is Boras, but I'd find it hard to believe, unless Pelfrey doesn't allow another run this season, that an abitrator would grant him a raise off this season. $4 mill doesn't really seem like a ton for a starter like Pelfrey.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Rockies' trade deadline chip Jason Giambi pulled up with a strained hammy on an infield grounder last night. On one hand, that swings the market toward the remaining sellers that much more. On the other, it's a cautionary tale for sellers to move their players before they, too, come up hurt. Cubs --- specifically Carlos Pea and Aramis Ramirez --- look to be dumping liberally. Pena basically sucks. Ramirez could be interesting though, I've always liked him. Obviously not for the Mets, but couldbe interesting to see where he goes.
  24. even Wright questioned the FO moves last August. I would hope the players realize this year is pretty different.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: I think they start with a Turner/Murphy mix. Certainly they've both played well enough to earn that much. Where they finish is another story. I disagree about Murphy being a knucklehead or purely a DH. He's missing a lot but it's not like he brings nothing to the field. I think Murphy would benefit from one position, as much as his versatility has been valuable this year given the injuries, I think he'd make a couple less mistakes if he could get a little more repetition at one place. I like his range and his aggressiveness. If the season ended right now I agree with AA that it should be Murphy, but the last two months will be very telling. Turner .326/.408/.372 (.780) over the last two weeks. He played with bruised and battered thumbs. I don't think he's "clearly not a starter" I don't think the Mets go outside the organization looking for a 2Bman though.
