  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It was also delivered in a lighthearted way and not meant to be analyzed for its smartness but its humor. well true, and I didn't hear the inflection, just Pelfrey repeating it. I just haven't separated "Beltran losing" and "bad thing" in my mind yet. Especially when it's Willie Harris wishing it.
  4. I don't like it. Stupid reason to be trying to make the playoffs. (Pelf cited this Quote in the post game interview) They should've been trying already. maybe Beltran would still be here.
  5. $1 beer night in St. Lucie tonight.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: Carter used to regularly talk Davey Johnson out of days off. Who was supposed to be today's shortstop? I'm curious who our backup actually is. Turner. Collins cited it on his WFAN interview yesterday. he mentioned giving Turner a day off yesterday because he wanted him fresh because he was thinking of giving Reyes a day off today and he'd be the guy. But reports this morning suggest Reyes talked his way back into the lineup. It's just that he's coming off a hamstring strain, it's hot, he's shown signs in the past of growing fatigued as the season winds down (but who knows, maybe that was residual thyroid issues caused by eating a lot of shellfish in the summer time?) on the o ther hand, he's freaking awesome and you want him in the lineup always.
  7. I don't get the point of trying to give guys days off if Terry's going to let them talk him into letting them play anyway. Reyes today isn't the first time it's happened. If you feel Reyes would benefit from a rest, then do it.
  8. It's close, 44 more games with the Mets and he was better, if slight, with the Mets, but Beltran will always be a Met first, and that includes if he one day ends up in the Hall of Fame. He's almost definitely going to become only the 8th player _ever_ to be a 300/300 player (5 HR, 8 SB) and he's got the best stolen base percentage _ever_. And he's a Met.

  10. oh boo, Silly Pirates, walking Uggla and giving up the game-winning hit to Ross. makes me sad.
  11. I was following along on gameday a little, but mostly distracted today. But over the last two starts at least, I've noticed a lot more groundballs. (no errors by the defense goes a long way too) Credit Pelfrey for sticking to what worked, but also debit those Reds hitters constantly swinging at first pitches because that's what got Pelf through 9.
  12. Reyes singles (what, he hasn't gone two games without reaching all year) Wright singles, Pagan drives 'em both in. 2-0.
  13. Hanley's got a lot of fair points. (The Marlins as a group play horrible horrible baseball. Him perhaps least of all) How about the Mets grab him to play second (or rF?), and shove him in an enviornment well he won't get away with some of the crap he has, will be able to put it behind him, and maybe evolve into a more mature cog in a future championship on a real team?
  14. game 1 NLCS, 2-run bomb accounting for the only runs.
  15. Gwreck wrote: If this trade's not official, why the hell are we holding him out of the lineup tonight? one of those courtesies teams do when a deal is 'official' but not 'final'.
  16. Jose Reyes SS Willie Harris 2B Daniel Murphy 1B David Wright 3B Angel Pagan CF Jason Bay LF Lucas Duda RF Ronny Paulino C Mike Pelfrey RHP
  17. TransMonk wrote: attgig wrote: Is Duda our RF for the rest of the year? and who gets called up now? Terry has said that Duda will play RF. of course, he's been reluctant to play him against lefties so far. So we'll see how much time he actually gets.
  18. attgig wrote: Is Duda our RF for the rest of the year? and who gets called up now? no one until tomorrow. I wonder who it'll be. Can't be Evans. Pascucci?
  19. Edgy DC wrote: "It's an injustice that Hernandez beat Sabathia for the Cy Young Award when he doesn't even know how to win!" "We've got to get Felix Hernandez!" How do you sustain thse two thoughts? Nevermind get paid for it on sports radio during prime time.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: Mariners put up a 4-spot in the 7th and lead the Yanx 6-1 They might even have an outside chance of winning this one! King Felix owns the Yanks, which is part of the reason Yankee fans drool over him. It's the Steinbrenner-era fan, becuse he was noitorious for coveting those that beat him.

Frayed Knot wrote: Farmer Ted wrote: NYPOST. -- The Mets traded Carlos Beltran and cash to the Giants for one of the best pitching prospects in the majors, Zach Wheeler, multiple sources confirmed to The Post. Keep in mind this is the same Post that told us a few days ago (Sherman, I think) citing several factors which said that there was no way the Mets were going to get even a medium-good prospect for Beltran - even if they paid his freight. And, yeah, I realize that this is two different stories and one's a source and the other an opinion ... but still. multiple sources? How many legitimate sources could there really be? Do you ask Alderson and then DePodesta? I gues by now it's probably sent to Boras and out and stuff, but these reporters make it sound like Alderson has a phone list and he calls every paper in America when the terms change. I don't think we have any official confon on Wheeler either. I mean, they say it's official, but I'm pretty sure they said that about Brown too.
  22. metirish wrote: Brown twitter feed https://twitter.com/#!/garybrown909 nothing today Brown and Wheeler both trending well, presumably him or Wheeler would be the last to know.
  23. It's always a good think when Johan Santana no-hits someone. Hopefully our version can do this next year.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Rubin now saying that Giants are including Kevin Boss AND Mathias Kiwanuka. actually he merely says someone said to pay at tention to those names. so basically he's just listing Giants prospects. whoosh sorry, this: I'm told to pay attention to two Giants prospect names: LHP Eric Surkamp and OF Francisco Peguero.
