Regarding, as an aside, moving the wall, in Rubin's chat, he described the Mets plan beiing to get rid of the notch in right, and to paint one of those noxious lines eight feet up on the wall in left, "because the wall is structural, and can't be moved." To which anybody who gives it seven seconds of thought would reply, "So, build a second wall two and a half feet in front of that. My uncle Kenny pours concrete and can give them a nice deal." The original designs of Citi Field supposedly said the walls could be moved 8 feet. maybe that was scrapped. Randy of the Apple did some photoshopping and came up with very cool ideas for alterations if the case came to be. Obviously, the second smaller wall in front with seats on top in left makes a ton of space, creates more (high priced and in demand) seating, and fixes the 'wall problem'. But it's not like Bay's been flying out to deep left, or hitting it off the wall. He went like two months without a double.

I'd have stuff like that as my walkup music. That and random movie clips, sound effects. I'd probably record Alex Anthony announcing Carlos Beltran and use that as my walk-up music. aside, I'd love it if the Mets made the @bravesorganist an offer. He does some funny stuff for opposing players.

He talks to ESPN NY about growing up loving the Mets and now, like Mark Wahlberg in Rock Star, being one of them. good for him. everytime i hear his name it reminds me of the books I read as a kid with the main character was nicknamed Cam cause he had a photographic memory. I think they solved crime or something.
  5. the other point is that, how much does this message mean anyway? especially to gay teens. how do a bunch of closeted athletes know it gets better when they're too afraid to actually admit it themselves?

Up to two un-earned so far and it's only the top of the 3rd I've felt like that all year. I did a little rsearch a couple of weeks ago of errors->unearned runs and didn't find and real big correlation. I'm referring mostly to the games just recently. In the long run stuff like that tends to even out (even though fans always think their team is snake-bitten most often) but the low-scoring close games we've been playing lately definitely makes the E's stand out more. Besides, I'm mostly just venting. well, four game losing streak. I imagine those things tend to peak during stretches like that.

  9. Do Reyes and Jeter really walk out to the same music? http://theropolitans.com/p/walk-up-music.html has the full complete list of players, including in-season changes and some historical Mets.

Why don't the Mets say it? so, it only gets better for young LGBT people, but not for anyone else? This antibullying campaign-- like the whole of the "It Gets Better" concept-- is focused primarily on bullying faced by LGBT teens, in the wake of several prominent suicides by such teens over the previous year (Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers kid, e.g.). So, yeah, in brief: "Come ON." Presumably we should wait until some muslim kids kill themselves before we promote anti-bullying based on religion.

  12. I like interleague, disappointed that the only non-Yank home series is the Orioles.
  13. bmfc1 wrote: Good point Hahn Solo. The Braves "strength of schedule" might be as high as the Mets. Rubin tweeted today that the Red Sox @ Mets was on a draft version but not on the final. I wonder what replaced it. Cincinnati series in mid June. They come in twice next year. first is a two game set in May. So they play the Reds 8 times. Mest only have the 15 IL games, getting the NL only series this year.
  14. Atahualpa Severino on the other hand..

He'd need to play like 150 games in 2013 and the more he sucks, the more he'll get pinch hit for, the further down in the lineup he'll bat, etc. It's even simpler than that. They can (and likely will) just release him. well, yeah, if he sucks. Could've just released K-Rod too. On the same token, if he's got any value, it'd probably be at least as a lefty masher off the bench, which is something playoff contending teams could usually use. (Whether that's the Mets because a prospect has pushed him out of a starting job, or a trade)
  16. I'm not looking to defend Bay, because he's been horrible except for some very small samples, but I do think there are signs that he could have an okay year next year too. The ribcage injury early on is one of those things that some guys cite as something that continues to create some hesitency in your swing after you're back. He's been bothered by this sore shoulder a couple of times this season. He sat out yesterday and if I recall, he mentioned it a couple of times this season and at least once was near the end of another one of his hot streaks. It's entirely possible that he's having lingering effects of the concussion last year that he's not aware of. (of course, none of this excuses how bad he was last year) This might be more apporpriate for a Trust in Twelve thread in February. Edgy DC wrote: We all (save ceetar) twisted our hands for the better part of a year over the potential vesting of Rodriguez's option, but Alderson dodged it. I'll trust him with this one. 17. that's bold? but 'centerpiece'? for a prospect? I'm not sure I'd give a package of prospects for one prospect, even a catching one. Granted, he had an awesome year this year in the minors. But he's only had one year in the minors with 49 games above A. Is that other catcher so awesome that they're so sure that this Grandal guy is extraneous? It's not a horrible idea, of course, Bowden throwing out a random trade scenario doesn't make him any different than the average WFAN caller, even if it makes more sense than most. on Bay, yeah. The option isn't really a big deal. It's easily workable. One DL stint basically puts it to rest, and if he's still sucking, he'll get days off frequently against righties. Plus, no one has any idea what the situation with the team will be in 2014. the 17 million for a slugging RFer (if he sucks, he has 0 shot of getting those PA) might not handicap them at all.

I have no idea from whom, though. Could be the Mets. If I had to guess, he'd get about 16 a year with bonuses up to 20, and 5 years, with a mutual option for a 6th.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Think Abreu makes it? Mets in the running: Jose Reyes: 79/366 David Wright: 181/149 Carlos Beltran: 298/293 Mike Cameron: 278/298 None looking like great bets. Reyes has probably the best chance of the lot. Beltran's (hopeful) addition to the 300/300 club is pretty exclusive anyway.
  20. It seems like this all might be the same injury, and he's just a slow healer. Tightness in his hamstring that just isn't clearing up. I wonder if there's something in his pregame/workout routine that can minimize the strain there. If he can play through it though, maybe it's just something that can be managed with some good rest days. I mean, he's hitting .300 with a hit practically every day since returning from the DL. he was on base three times yesterday. I've thought Alderson will get it down in the exclusive window (which ends up being like 5-6 weeks right? no reason they can't negotiate during the playoffs) all along, and I think the nagging injuries help take away the chance of someone hinting that they'll offer him the moon if he waits for FA. He seems to genuinely want to stay here, so he probably would if they make him something approaching what they expect.

  23. According to the Times, it was: Star Wars NightStand Up to Cancer NightStitch n Pitch NightFilipino Heritage Night. close. it was Star Wars Stand up to Cancer night. those were combined. We stood mid-4th. Filipino Heritage was forgotten except for some sort of pregame dance thing that I missed online with Shake Shack, but I've got pictures of the other stuff.

The guys in the booth also commented that the Mets hadn't gotten a hit off the bullpen until the ninth. Hagin belaboring the obvious "All the hits were off the starter". From the box score, it looks like the losing run was put on by Thayer, but it was driven in off Parnell. Is that so? If they're grooming him to be an eighth inning guy or closer of the future, shouldn't he starting an inning? Later was first and second two outs when they brought Parnell in. he gave a grounder through the hole. It was hard hit, but he wasn't exactly clobbered. Got the next guy, scoreless 8th. gave up a single in the 9th but got two outs. His velocity was all over the place. 95-96 a lot. seemed to throw some changeups, which is out of character, but he pitched well. I'm starting to worry that he might be a little burnt out, although most of the Mets look that way.
