Vic Sage wrote: i could easily see Torres end up batting 7th-8th (with Tejada and Murphy at the top of the order) if he doesn't hit well initially, and being replaced completely if he continues his decline. Whereas Bay is going to get stuck in the middle of our lineup come hell or high water. I'd say his production is the biggest "?" and "!" in the Mets lineup, and will determine the productivity of the "O", while Santana's health will determine the "D". Tejada Murphy sounds likely for 1-2, but either way, I figure it's Wright-Ike-Bay to start 3-4-5, with Duda 6th and possibly overtaking Bay. If Collins gets all L-R-L-R happy, you could probably do Ike-Wright-Duda in that case depending on how they're all doing. But I agree on the swing guys. if both Santana and Bay become ! this team will actually be fairly competitive.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Are we going to do an "Expectations of Twelve" series? If so, my feeling on Pelfrey right now is that he'll pitch well enough to be traded in July, and Matt Harvey will take his place in the Mets rotation. he'll pitch exactly the same as he has for pretty much every year of his career, and his results will wildly fluctuate based on luck, defense, and Warthen's consciousness level.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I dunno. Unless Bay declines further he's gonna be 'OK' out there. If Torres declines we're gonna have problems. Torres is financially disposable. Kirk Nieuwenhuis (or someone else) would be here faster than you can blink. If Bay puts up the awful 2011 numbers, it could be bad out there. if he rebounds even 10% (which is still way under his career average) it'll be pretty good.
  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: An awful lot seems to be depending on Andres Torres, doesn't it? If he can have a 2010 season instead of a 2011 season I kinda like the OF. I think Bay is the bigger swing guy.
  6. Maybe that's what I was thinking of. how dare he not be the right type of black. Like his election was some kind of slavery reparations.
  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: ... well... let's just say I think I hope he's a transitional guy. 2012 Mets: All about the transitional guy.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: I didn't even know that Derek Jeter was black until a couple of years ago. His father is, his mother not. And, on that subject, isn't it funny how the old 'one drop' rule is still carried on by many in this country even as the attitude towards it is different? Back in the segregationists days, virtually any negro heritage anywhere on your family tree was enough to deny you various rights in certain areas. This so-called 'One Drop' of black blood means you're black standard was obviously an attempt to separate those deemed 'tainted' which turned it into something to be avoided by those of mixed race heritage. Nowadays the same rule seems to apply although in a way where those of mixed race are categorized (almost exclusively by others but often by themselves as well) as being nothing but black. So when Jeter - or Tiger, or the president, etc. - is described, despite recent and well known family histories, AS black it sounds as if the idea now is to seek to minimize or deny any white (or, in Tiger's case, east Asian) lineage. Wasn't there some.. complaint? that Obama wasn't 100% black and that someone lessened the historical nature of a black president? I've noticed some kids, and I did some substituting a couple of years ago and noticed the same thing, going beyond black and identifying by country/region. I don't know what that means, but it was interesting. and this thread has gotten rather heavy for having a title mentioning both Jeter and Matthews.
  9. Did you guys hit the batting cage first? I feel like if/when I go to Fantasy Camp, I'm gonna spend like a year in the batting cage before hand.
  10. MLK sent gift baskets to the random women he met in bars and snuck in the back entrance of his building? I thought he was all about everyone being able to use the front entrance.
  11. Chase Utley's up? Bah, I struck that guy out 6 times while climbing Kilimanjaro.
  12. G-Fafif wrote: I wonder if Bobby Ojeda is still pissed off [crossout]about all this.[/crossout] Yes.
  13. why does everyone 'roll over' for the Yankees it feels like? Supposedly they wanted Nova and eventually gave in. Yankees were clearly desperate.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: The final remaining big-money FA contract aside from Fielder may be Cuban defector (and You Tube video star) Yoenis Cespedes - 26, OF. He's still "establishing himself" in the Dominican Republic (necessary for FA status) and made his debut in the DWL (by going 0-3 w/3 strikeouts). The six leading contenders are said to be Miami, both Chicago squads, Baltimore, Detroit, and Cleveland. And Familia struck him out on three 95mph pitches last night.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: It was Mota that Prince Fielder was trying to kill when he tried to crash the Dodger clubhouse, wasn't it? What a pariah that guy must've been. I'm good with blaming him for losing the 2006 NLCS and the collapse of 2007 if you are.
  16. Ashie62 wrote: Maybe it was roid rage.. on Mota's part? probably.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: In Rotterdam, NY, not far from the town of Cooperstown, sits the Hall of the Fucked. Every year, dozens of baseball fans flock to this hamlet to pay tribute to the their favorite players, enshrined forever by fuckedness. Hodges, Minoso, Herman, Cardenal, Tiant, O'Neil, Munson. Come, bring your kids, and relive these great legacies as they rot away in Rotterdam. As fun as these pilgrimages are is the debate about who will join these immortals. Trammel? Schilling? Whose gonna get fucked next? Bring your family and see. Make special plans for each July when the ranks of the buggered grow in the annual Fucking Ceremony. Don't miss it! Oh, I assumed those guys just went down the road to Ommegang and were drinking heavily.
  18. he better get in next year. How much fun will it be to celebrate him at home at the All-Star Game and then a week and a half later go up to Cooperstown and celebrate him there?
  19. uh oh, could they actually _lose_ money from the game? heh. They'll probably still get the parking, unless that counts a related expense? or do they mean like fanfests?
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Yeah, I'm not so interested in his categorization as a borderline candidate, but that you place him on the dark side of the border. I neutralized his stats and his W-L stats didn't really change, taking him from 216-146, .597, 3.46 to 212-139 .604, 3.30. Make of the bloody sock what you will, but the statistical representation of that hosiery is an 11-2 record and a 2.23 ERA in the post-season. I think Schilling could be one of the ones they string along for 10 years while inducting all those other guys. I expect angry rants from Schilling as it happens not helping.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: I'm just looking at the game itself relative to the balance sheets. other than the ticket/stadium related stuff, I think all All-Star Profits benefit MLB Pension fund.
  22. at the very least they get the ticket sales from selling a game out at World Series prices including all the luxury suites. That's probably well over $5million just from ticket sales. (I think I paid $200 for a my SRO ticket strip in 2006 in Pittsburgh..) There's probably at least some uptick related to season ticket sales from people wanting to have that access. Presumably they get to raise the prices on advertising on all in-stadium stuff, that will be seen on walls during the events.
  23. Ashie62 wrote: Any ideas folks? If you buy a package this year do you get a crack at the All Star game at Citi, 2013? gotta officially announce it first, but I imagine that will be based on seniority and ownership of 2013 season tickets, yes. the Mets without a doubt will package an end of the season package geared towards renewing in 2013 with this carrot. (Michael Kay is an idiot)
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I guess Edgy's joke was too "inside." $4300 isn't a bad price, all things considered. It was a Sinatra thing? Like they talk about in Ocean's 11?
