  3. They'd just raise minor league ticket prices wouldn't they? I don't know how that'd ultimately affect attendance/revenue though. We've got the ability to see/follow those teams these days, maybe coupled with raises for the players, they could draw an audience showing those games on the major league off days (or day games when the team plays at night, and vice versa) more often on the regional sports networks, raising advertising money that way.

  5. metirish wrote: Question, if a player gets called up from the minors is he automatically in the MLB union?, and what happens if he is on the minor league shuffle? I think so. I think it happens once you're on the 40 man? That's why they call it 'purchasing' your contract when they add you? You get the prorated 480k when you get called up, but I have no idea how it affects your minor league salary. I imagine you're well above the minimum at that point.

Well the WFAN people, Francessa and the morning show, complained about it too. But they're cranky and ignorant, so that doesn't surprise.
  7. You guys will have to pick up the slack without me tomorrow though.
  8. Will start in Buffalo provided he's not one of the projected 40man cuts to make room. Which is doubtful since they just added him last fall.
  9. Toby Hyde lists him unofficially in a utility role for the Binghamton Mets.

  11. bmfc1 wrote: GKR politely showed their displeasure for this game. It doesn't impact them--it's not on SNY--but why are the Mets schlepping to Tampa for a practice game the day before the season starts? They should be having a workout at home so the players can see the new configuration. I know that a practice field Port St. Lucie has the same configuration but it would be better to see the real thing. Of course, money is involved--they had a sellout yesterday--but it was still a bad decision. Francesa harped on this yesterday. Among other ridiculous things. For one, the Mets are doing the _Yankees_ a favor yesterday, not the other way around. They wanted a pitstop on the way back from Miami. I doubt the Mets were ever planning on holding a workout today. If it wasn't the Yankees, it'd be the Nats or something. Most of the other teams are playing various games, it's not like they're chilling out. They had the new dimensions set up on field 7 down there, what do they really need to practice? The wall is a little closer, so take a couple of steps in. bingo. They can walk around and shag fly balls Thursday morning during BP, but I don't think anyone really felt this was something that needed to be done. Baseball is also a game that's played every day. I think it's important from that aspect to gear up for another game in a row today, followed by one tomorrow. Travel is normal in that case. (And they have off Friday) try to get into a routine and groove and all that. btw, it's an hour to the airport anyway, it's only three hours to Tampa airport. They gotta get on a bus anyway, so is a noon game really a big deal? They'll be in NY in time for a late dinner.
  12. Mets decide to use the Tampa airport rather than West Palm Beach to fly back to NY. The worthless storyline here is that Andy Pettite may pitch an inning. Torres-DH, Murphy-2B, Wright-3B, Davis-1B, Bay-LF, Duda-RF, Hairston-CF, Thole-C, Tejada-SS. Gee-RHP

  14. metsmarathon wrote: why have the cool architectural lattice in the first place if all you're going to do is sandwich it between a bunch of ads? I can agree with that, it seems the perfect place for ads and yet it's a cool lattice. Do you think (on the video board scoreboard) it'd look better if the latticework went all around the advertisements as and outline? that might be better.
  15. if only we oculd better follow the yankees' lead on these things. they're all class. no extra ads. only the bare minimum. the important ones. the.. uh... 600x400http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/mariners/yankees0630.jpg> yet somehow, citi looks slightly tackier. i think the big problem is that the ad spaces on the scoreboard at citi seem taked on. like the original space allotment wasn't enough, they needed more cash, so they just slapped up some more placards hanging off hte sides of the structure. oe, why does htat never work for me? i'd stick it in original size, but its about 3k pixels wide! I think that looks tackier than Citi. I guess technically the porch is advertising, but imo it's about as nice as you can get an ad.. with that and the bridge, at least the entire backdrop of the stadium isn't dominated by the ads. If you keep your focus on the field you sorta get away from the big glaring ads. (Of course, there is advertising all over the place... Not really much to do about it these days I guess. I do miss the pennants on the walls, and I barely remember those) I like it as the 'tacked on' look. It sorta deemphasizes the ads from the scoreboard. Also it was a solid change when they went from any old ad, to 'hey, let's get an actual tv company ad here in a muted black style so it doesn't distract from the scoreboard."
  16. Josh Lewin actually mentioned this game on the broadcast today.
  17. TransMonk wrote: That's not horrible. As low as my expectations are for Pelf, I'm still pulling for him to do well. They were _swinging_ strikeouts too. (at least most of them)
  18. And now the Mets are raining hits. Torres, Murphy, Wright, sac fly for Davis, Bay.
  19. Advertisers generally want people to ..you know...be in the stadium to SEE advertisements. Surprised no naming right though.
  20. That's just the video board, the other scoreboard is the one you're comparing to the Marlins board.
  21. I wonder if the team that was 'off' that inning heckled the other teams.
  22. No big deal. I imagine the winning pitcher and the two starters are the main stat-getters here.
  23. Alpine Albatrosses: kurt suzuki ©, dustin ackley (MI) , and mike carp (OF) Greenpoint Lunchladies: Brandon McCarthy, Tom Wilhelmsen Miracle Monks: Coco Crisp Muddy Chickens: Seth Smith
  24. making a list.
  25. funny, since I asked the day after and was told that'd it wasn't going to happen. Where'd you see this?
