Johnson going for the fish * and the Nationals escape the heat of DC (or maybe not) by visiting Georgia . Scoreless after 1 so far; Detwiler & Delgado the Phillies Marlins one is interesting. initial thought is root for the Fish because the Phillies have better players looming that could get them 'good' again so the further buried they are, the better. Plus the Marlins have one or so players I sorta really like, the Phillies have none. the other one is interesting though. Puts a lot of pressure onthe Mets to win. if the Mets win 2/3 this weekend and the Braves do, they gain ground on the Nats while staying ahead of the Braves. Keeping them from getting away seems important. Mets play the NL East a lot in July post-All-Star to make their case too.
  2. 6-4 white sox, top 3, no outs. Yankees have Phelps warming, who they clearly would prefer to start if they can stretch him out.

They may indeed work their way down to Maine by then. interesting to note, Pettitte went on the _60_ day DL (Mets aren't the only one with roster management concerns) so six weeks is not even an option. Gonna be at least almost nine.
  4. Tonight: Yankees score 4 in the bottom 1 but Sox get it back against major league debuter Warren. Warren seems very Schwinden like actually.
  5. really sucks that it's sold out. booo being sold out. it's wrong to mug a random Mets fan on Tuesday right?

So now, from the main page of BB-Ref, click on the pitching splits link right under the National League Heading (just above the standings) and you'll get identical breakdowns only for league-wide stats. You can also switch that to MLB-wide in addition to NL only or AL only. Thanks, I love the site but sometimes I find it a little clunky to navigate. I kept clicking the pitching drop-down but kept going to reliever pitching instead of splits. anyhow, 4.26 is the reliever league average for June, whereas the Mets are at 3.9. given how every storyline seems to trash the bullpen it's actually been mostly okay.

It's his final start of the first 81 games, but not his final start before the All-Star break, which is the "traditional" (and inaccurate) halfway mark. I was more noting that in terms of projections and on pace to win 22-24 games. incidentally, I'd start Dickey first game after the All-Star Break and hold Santana back unti l4th. this way they both pitch against WSH (although Atlanta is important too.) probably too early to pplay around with short rest to get them both against both.
  8. R.A. Dickey versus Aaron Harang. Harang is 5-4 with a 3.81 ERA and a stupid face. In what will be Dickey's last first half start, he tries to get to 12 wins. How he pitches tonight could make or break whether he starts the All-Star Game, although I'm starting to think he will just given the story. Supposedly the LA media absolutely mobbed him when they arrived yesterday.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Anyone know a site that does team double splits? like "Mets bullpen in June"? Although they're only 13-13 in June despite having the second best team ERA in the majors. BB-Ref Go to the Mets 2012 stat page - click not just on Pitching but Pitching splits - scroll down to reach 'Months' section and see not just where they have Apr, May, June stats, but also each month's GS & GR (games started, games relieved) broken out Pen ERA: Apr = 5.02; May = 5.82; June = 3.90 The penners are, however, 0-5 in June so maybe those fewer runs allowed aren't always coming at the best of times (although W/L stats for relievers are notoriously inaccurate) thanks. right, I was looking to compare that to the league average for June, which I couldn't seem to find. sorta funny, they won in the first two months but with the best ERA in June it might be there worst month to date.
  10. Fireworks AND you can get this shirt? Tuesday!

IIRC, the 7 day gets re-upped for another automatic 7 days if the player is not ready. Once you get past 14, then you automatically go on the 15 day DL. I could be mis-remembering, though. hmm, that sounds right. *countS* today is the 13th day.

  17. mlb.tv free game of the day(night) if you're up.
  18. One one hand, good move by Alderson by not giving him a real contract off last year, but maybe he should've traded him or tried to extend him through this year in say July of last year? It's certainly interesting that he signed both these guys and just let them walk and then resigned the one that didn't work out last year. Capuano is the kind of depth signing I was hoping Alderson would make this offseason to limit the Schwinden/Batista/Hefner starts.
  19. The Mets two buy low gamble signings of 2011 face off. Chris Young versus Chris Capuano (9-2, 2.60ERA)
  20. Mets remain 3 back of the Dodgers/Giants for that first spot, and one back of the Braves for the second. (tied with Braves) Would need to sweep the Dodgers to swipe that one.

Man, I would love it if he would stop in for a conversation with us. Imagine that. And why not, he's as big a Met fan as any of us. Howie was about to tell this story but cut off by the DP.
  24. I thought the Yankees had two stud Ace pitching prospects about to come up? What do you mean one's injured and one has a 6+ ERA?
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Only bench emptying they do is to send Turner in for Wright. Wright plays like every day every inning so this was a good time for it. everyone else has pretty much done some platooning. (I'd also swap Thole out) Who pitches the 9th? Cedeno? Turner?
