  1. I felt a little weird about Aarsdma commenting about 'the team needing it' like he was part of much of any of the struggle.

  3. polite golf claps only. Emotion to be reserved for criticisms about how guys don't care enough.

There was also a glitch a week ago that indicated the Mets and Marlins were playing in a 20th inning. I've always noticed this stuff (perhaps it's the nosy 'how does it work' computer programmer in me) going back years and years. I suspect scoreboard operations are run by hamster wheels. I'm always amused by it. I remember one game the out of town scoreboard was wonky, all game ,from when BP was still going on right to the end of the game. Teams were duplicated. The Tigers were playing the Mariners at home AND the Yankees in NY. The Yankees were playing 4 home games. Crazy stuff like that.
  6. was there Wednesday. I usually just post in the game thread. (and on Twitter) I do think we have one of these..somewhere.. Next tickets I already have are my death tickets for 7/1. (blood tickets? whatever)
  7. I'll settle fora team that simply wins, as I suspect most Mets fans aren't going to believe it until well after they see it.
  8. There wasn't much bite for Hairston last season, there's unlikely to be much for Byrd. Gee or Hefner might have some value as cost controlled young starters, but then again, a lot of teams do have those backend type guys themselves. Marcum on the other hand, is probably a step above. He'd be clearly the obviously candidate if he stays healthy for another couple of starts into the trading season.
  9. Citi Field acoustics suck btw, for concerts anyway.

This happens to everyone. I'm sure the Mets are handling it, but family and friends are still going to call _him_, especially since they're going to want to offer their congratulations and tell him they'll be there, etc etc.
  11. oh, well hello Out of the Playoff Picture.
  12. G-Fafif wrote: The Mets will be LOL'd at by the usual suspects no matter what they do. Once they accept that, strive for better angels and win some goodwill. Those ads for "family packs" or whatever (to use an example that leaps to mind) could be made by an unimaginative high school junior. They basically are. (well, maybe an unimaginative college freshman) Interns!
  13. G-Fafif wrote: I have been ruminating on a piece about how the Mets can't help but be the Mets right now but, per Mr. Bat M. Leadoff's point, they could do themselves a PR favor by presenting a more humble/human face about it. Mr. Met (or Willard Metz) is a great asset in that regard, but a sense of "look, we know we're not there yet, but honest to god, we're trying, hang in there with us," would be better than just the condescending blandness they put out there as a matter of course. Also, only tangentially related, every promotional spot this team produces is amateurish. In 1999, USA Today Baseball Weekly ranked every teams' commercials and slotted the Mets last. The ads haven't improved (or changed) an iota since. If it was done with a smile and a wink, it would come off as homespun. Instead it just looks cheap. Either way, that's quite a comic book. I like the Citi/SNY promotional spots. I think they're well done, but granted the specifically just the Mets stuff isn't great. There's more MLB oversight/whitewashing going on, but that's no excuse either. But I dunno, the way the media/public is these days, I'm not sure you could pull off that goofy 'hang in there we're trying' bit these days.
  14. same runs/game as the Mets. (It's the pitching, and some bunching/timing/luck that's the difference in the records) ineptitude! I love it.
  15. It fascinates me that the Mets offense isn't the worst run-scoring offense in the city. The Yankees came into today with the same runs/game rate (And play in Yankee Stadium). They've got 2 runs through 14 which is slightly better than 1 through 9, but still.
  16. Zvon wrote: Well, Wrights having a decent afternoon. 1 run. 1 runs guys. Score me one fuckin run. I'm greedy. I demand 3.

With Newy, he supposedly got to hittin down on the farm, but he looks like the same whiffer I saw in April. Well, if we're being all-inclusive.. Buck, Lagares, Cowgill, Davis too.

Alderson also said in that interview that he doesn't like to be always making transactions because it affects chemistry, but did note there isn't much chemistry when you're losing.
  20. metsmarathon wrote: that's actually a good and reasonable point. if they give away the free food on the way in, they pay for it twice. once to, y'know, buy for it, and twice because you're possibly then buying less of other food. it requires no big cream cabal or corporate pressure, only functioning a pair of functioning brain cells occasionally bumping into each other. I got free chips on my way in yesterday. so there.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: I wonder if Carvel put the screws to pregame distribution. Ideal: Ice cream (with napkins) handed out, row by row, around the fifth or sixth. How long could it have taken? Skip the Cardinal fans. oooh, Big Cream flexing their muscle!
  22. metsmarathon wrote: 4. ice cream as you walk out, capping a nice summer day, and serving as dessert. what, are you going to bed right away? like, before you get to your car or on the subway? whose day is this seriously ruining, other than the guy who's a little too neat-freaky about his car, and feels compelled to down the whole thing before he sets foot in his precious bimmer? it always bums me when the ice cream cart closes after the 7th or so. late in the game is when i want my ice cream. to enjoy as the game wraps up or on the way home. who gets ice cream in the first inning, except to beat the line...? I prefer ice cream on the way in. Rather my sticky fingers stickying up Citi Field than my car, plus it's nice to get a jump on traffic. Obviously coming in is when you're about to sit down for 3 hours and have more time to eat it. But it's free Ice Cream. I literally don't care when or where you give it to me, I want it. I like Ice Creams! I do!! I like them, Sam-I-am! And I would eat them in a boat! And I would eat them with a goat... And I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so good so good you see! So I will eat them in a box. And I will eat them with a fox. And I will eat them in a house. And I will eat them with a mouse. And I will eat them here and there. Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

Oktoberfest is actually in September, and this event is attached to a game versus the Brewers in September. I have to assume the opponent was coincidental.
  24. What do you think?
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: Ceetar wrote: On Molina's double last night, Valdespin (the second baseman) for some reason ran all the way over to the third base line to stand like 6 feet from David Wright (Duda relayed in to Quintanilla who then flipped to Valdespin since he was right there). Why? What could he possibly have been thinking he was going to do? I only noted this because when Duda fielded it I looked towards second to see if they had a chance to get him and saw Murphy running to cover. It's almost like a wheel play on a double. On a double to LF, the SS & 2B usually act as double cut-off men (either to 3B or, if a runner was on 1st before the hit, to home) while the 1B trails the batter/runner towards 2nd on account of there ain't no reason to cover 1st anymore. Now I can't picture that play specifically in my head, but it sounds like Valdespin was in the correct general area even if maybe not in the ideal spot. That does seem to make sense. I guess it just felt weird because the play was along the line so whereas normally he'd be right around SS position, here he was basically standing in front of David Wright. Also with Yadier the runner little chance he was going to third. What makes the decision between deciding to cover second for a possible throw? no replay on mlb for the double, so can't look back at it. aw well.
