Called a friend and I got 3 tix for $21. Went to print them before we left only to discover our printer was not hooked up, I tried to install drivers but was having trouble so I just left for the game with proof on the stub hub app and my Gmail that I bought the tix. The Mets ticket office wouldn't re-print for me even though I showed the guy the proof along with my ID. I pointed out that stub hub is an official MLB partner. ... guy would not budge and we ended up walking all the way down Roosevelt Avenue to find a hotel so I can access my email and print tickets. maybe I was naive in thinking the ticket office could help me, so just for future reference keep that in mind. the whole official partner crap and all that, you'd think. but, you could've just scanned the tickets on your phone, as long as the ticket guys would've let you. the barcodes scan.

Also, Scotts has a lawn care exhibit - perfect for the new homeowner! Good to know, but I have at least like 45 days before I'm that. Actually, I think I underestimated how far the Javits center is from Grand Central. *Grumble*
  10. oh, THIS thread. haha. someone email this to Deadspin. I'm starting to suspect Melky might've been justified.
  11. so Let's say you have 40 minutes, max, in FanFest..what do you see? (not real interested in autographs)
  12. I was worried about being exhausted at work on Wednesday after the late All-Star Game, but then I remember I went to work after going to the game in 2006 as well.. I'll probably be MORE rested this time right?
  13. Frank Francisco. Familia/Mejia? how they doing? One is injured right? Montero for the rest of the season as big league exposure? Recker?

I think if anything, Sandy learned the lesson that NOT moving Hairston at the deadline was a mistake. He didn't make the team any more competitive, and he signed elsewhere in the off-season. maybe, but had he moved Hairston perhaps random official doesn't make the above quote/have that uncertainty.

  18. Fangraphs has been all over the Dickey/velocity stuff for months, and talked to him about it even. http://www.fangraphs.com/players.aspx?lastname=r.a.%20dickey&type=blog&sort=date

No other reason to move him now. This. Parnell is part of the solution, not the problem. He's young, talented, relatively inexpensive, and still under team control. Why on Earth should they trade him unless they're getting more back than he's worth? because there is a good chance you'll get back more than he's worth do to the overvalued nature of closers.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The avocation of rooting for a sports team or athlete is neither rational nor irrational, but super-rational. So this thread is kinda just about the dream? The one where Byrd keeps this up the rest of the year and Ike Davis hits like he did the second half of last year (or other extrapolations) and the Mets make their run?
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Who are these four pitchers? Who are the non-pitchers? Niese, Marcum and Torres are the non-pitchers. the other four are the four pitchers.

  24. in actuality, i'm kinda disappointed. I'd much rather Jeter play hurt and unready and mess with his career rate stats. Actually, Jeter's got an $8 million option on next season. He can get it up to $17 by being elite, but it's unlikely. What's the funnest option? Him just taking that option and playing out the string is boring. Does he decline, demand a new contract? do the Yankees give him one or is it more fun to see him bristle at their rejection and play elsewhere?
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: If anything this year I get the opinion that the worst is behind them and, barring some soul-crushing injuries (Wright, Harvey), they should be at least competitive throughout. And while that doesn't mean I think they're the best team going forward, or that they didn't dig themselves too big a hole early on to truly get back in the race, if a bunch of stuff all goes right things could be more interesting than just a sad team playing out the string. Seems accurate. I think we're gonna look back at parts of this season and reflect on turning points for decades to come, but I'm not sure they have it in them, of their own volition, to make the playoffs yet. But I wouldn't rule out the Braves collapsing some where it becomes a little more possible. They're still quite a bit under .500 and barring a crazy non-losing streak coming up, they're going to be well out of it still by the trading deadline. The Mets seemingly only have 4 pitchers right now, and Torres, who probably isn't "the answer". I'm nominating Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Ike Davis as guys that, if they play respectable baseball, can have the Mets play at a .550 clip for the season, but I'm not sure there's enough talent across the board to do what needs to be done to get to the playoffs right now.
