Or, except for the fact that we suck , and they own us in our own park.... all in all, I think there are any number of issues here. -

Wheeler has plus pitches all over the place and can be a little more wild. The Phillies like to swing, and hence hit Hefner's pitches in the zone. they will be MEAT tomorrow with Wheeler. 3 hits off Wheeler in 8 innings. -

Turner to Brooklyn, I'd expect him tomorrow after that, otherwise why to Rookie ball from AA? Leaving in about 45 minutes. It's not wonder I love Citi Field with all the time i spend there. Makes sense on the Turner move. Have fun. We're back on Monday for the Braves. Friend's visiting or I'd be all home, AC and root beer floats. Going tomorrow too. And probably Tuesday because I can't really pass up Mr. Met with a lightsaber. (I mean, who can?) -

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: 71 Games left. I kinda looked at the schedule on paper and made an optimistic prediction that we could go 41-30, which would pull us into the station at 82-80. That's just under .600 so optimistic but not impossibly so. I like 41. I kinda expected them to play sorta like an 82 win team this year anyway, so I wouldn't be surprised if it fell that way, but If I had to pin a number on it, 38-33. I think Ike Davis has a good second half. (not great. He performs just well enough that we feel we've learned nothing helpful about how to proceed with him) I think Nieuwenhuis will have a good second half, and make up for a drop off by Marlon Byrd. Murphy will perform a little better and hopefully that's enough overall to boost the offense just enough to win a couple more games. I think Wheeler will have both an amazing stretch of 3-4 games, and one that has everyone comparing him to Mike Pelfrey for 3-4 games. I think David Wright hits 13 home runs, putting him just 22 behind Strawberry.

Do we not count half seasons? Only full seasons in which you contribute count? No one carries a team to the postseason by himself, but Beltran's superhuman effort in them almost carried them to the World Series. And the drop off in competitiveness with his half seasons should certainly be noted as well. -

Centerfield wrote: However, I do think that Piazza's should be retired. And to illustrate that I don't think the HOF thing should go hand-in-hand with the number-retirement, I thought it would have been a great, GREAT move for the Mets to announce that they were retiring his number immediately after he fell short of the vote. I think it would have been a great show of support for a Mets great and a giant fuck you to the BBWA. I think doing so at the end of the year is a similar show of support. The Mets had their hands full with All-Star Festivities, and I certainly would've made more of the MHOF induction thing as part of it, but they didn't send out the press release until I was literally on my way to the Futures game, and that makes it sound to me like they didn't talk with Piazza about it until he showed up for the festivities. I think having their hands full with jumping through hoops for MLB sorta put the Piazza thing on the back burner a little bit in a "worry about it in the second half" way. But they haven't reissued 31 and they certainly induct guys without retiring numbers, and it's different groups that decide, so I think it's going to retired as part of this ceremony. -

It just isn't nearly as world-class as the people discounting overpriced seats and calling them "bargains" would have you believe. Never is, turns out they're advertisers too though. World-class is mostly that, an advertising word. Bargains are few and far between in NYC though. -

very first thing i see in the Fenway picture: CVS Very first thing I see in the Citi picture: Omar Quintanilla Partly that's because I've got my eye trained at Citi. I know which box to look at, and the scoreboards are not broken up, like in that Fenway shot or at Yankee Stadium for example. There are advertisements BETWEEN useful baseball information. Good trick, that. Makes sure you always look at it. -
Great shot out of a crappy target.Got the ASG on the mound right there, Torre, and Mo's arm is blocking the FOX logo. score.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Well, I agree it is way too commercialized, and it's certainly no mistake that the scoreboards double as billboards. Really, that's their primary purpose inasmuch as that side does what it's supposed to do 365 days a year vs. 81. That's not to say Shea was better. I mean at onepoint it was but by the time that place was done the Wilpons had sold every square inch of Shea available, and erected truly awful stuff just for the ad space like the Azec thing in the RF bullpen, the Keyspan sign in left, the giant Budwesiser ad where the scoreboard used to be etc etc etc And that's the Shea I knew, which is probably part of my reasoning. I like the Azek K-Counter actually. Thought having a dedicated board was neat. How about the Dunkin Donuts cup they put up the last couple of years though? How freaking AWESOME was that? -

Swan Swan H wrote: I have great memories of Shea, of course, but I go to the park 15-20 times a year and I wouldn't trade Citi for Shea under any circumstances. agreed. 10 years from now Citi will have that same "I know it's not perfect, but it's OURS!" and the "Well _I_ would've designed it different" stuff will fade some. Like the Wilpons/designers should've consulted you when they decided they'd rather build the promenade closer to the field and obstruct view than push fans another 50 feet back. I'm sure I'm considered a Citi Field apologist or whatever, but it's not just rampant commercialism, and a lot of that stems not just from greed on the owners part but on the players (hello, they've gotta pay these salaries you know..) but from things like building codes. Shea wasn't as bad (newer). but take old Yankee. The upper level steps were dizzingly steep. You literally would not be allowed to build that today. My home inspector told me the code for step height on a front entrance has come down a whole inch, and i'm sure there are similar codes for buildings like stadiums. That means either moving the seats further out to grade the pitch, or obstructing views. It means plexiglass and more women's bathrooms even though the bathrooms don't really match the gender percentages of the fan base. Neyer's speculating. If they tilted the scoreboard in Right-Center towards home plate, fans in the cheap seats in the left field fair territory seats would not be able to see it as well. Also it'd just look stupid. It's set back beyond the bridge (why yes, Pepsi Porch people can see it too that way) And it'd mess with the bridge if you brought it forward. Yes, duh, someone realized you can advertise on the stadium too, and this is most noticeable on Northern BLVD more than anywhere else. They certainly could've extended the building up higher to maximize that if they wanted, as it doesn't quite peak through the trees onto the GCP as well as Shea did, and it's further back (yeah, logistics. Maybe if the Yankees weren't doing the same they would've demolished, played there, and built it in the same spot for that reason? who knows) Look, the advertising isn't great. I'd love it, I think it'd be the most awesome thing, if a team hired an advertising firm themselves and demanded that all advertisments go through them so that they were designed to fit the park specifically. These are the extra steps the Mets (And many others) don't take. They don't put in the extra deck to push the capacity towards 60k but they knew they rarely were going to draw that and yes, money, they knew they'd rather sell tickets at 10-20 as the low end rather than crappy 'just get 'em in here' seats 6 miles from home plate. I liked Citi Field to begin with and it's only grown on me more. We're still breaking it in, but we're getting there. -
It's felt pretty likely to me that the Wilpons are not adding their own money to the team, but everything within the actual budget of the Mets is Sandy's call. If he can make something work within the revenue stream the Mets generate, then fine. If not, he knows better than to ask Fred and Jeff for an outlay of cash at this point above and beyond what the Mets can cover themselves. The question, to me, is where exactly does licensing money (which is freaking substantial) SNY, naming rights, etc all go to? Are those revenue streams available to Sandy if he was going to raise payroll by 20 million or so? Is it factored in now? Supposedly SNY is making money, what's licensing up to, 50? 60? naming rights are 20..that's practically payroll at this point before a fan walks through the door.

Watch Mel, a local politician and a former wild child, and Joe, her down-on-his-luck manny, work together to raise Mels teenaged niece Lennox and nephew Ryder. Yup thats right, this crazy bunch is back! Cant wait until the summer premiere? Watch some hilarious Melissa & Joey episodes here! I hope the first episode ends with them being gunned down by jihadists. they're three season in. My wife put it on so we watch it now. It's one of those shows I'd gladly cut out and devote the time elsewhere (Writing, beer reviewing, sleeping..) but it's not bad. It's not good either, it's awfully cliche and I'm not even sure if there's an overall plot anymore, just "hey, here's some people living together doing things! The two main characters should be together but aren't and we'll hint at it all the time!" oh, and Taylor Spreitler is pretty cute.
