It's acting like this stuff is even remotely likely that's sorta silly. Reporting it like they're talking about it any more seriously than we are.
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Holy smokes. I can't read it because ESPN is block'd at work (where's my smart phone?), but Rubin just posted and article titled "Alderson: Flores at shortstop not dead?" Wouldn't that be a kick in the pants if the Mets had a stealth plan all along to defy the defensive dismissals and go with a low-range/offense first option nobody at all had considered? And Terry Collins floating Eric Young as leadoff bs. Rubin admittedly is posting this because it's like a car wreck and you'll click. It still says January on my calendar.
  3. Nymr83 wrote: I don't know that Tejada's the answer either, but spending good money and a draft pick on a guy who's going to strike out 140 times and hit .250 and is eight years older isn't the answer either. I still pass. A 3rd round draft pick really shouldnt be stopping a team from signing a guy. Stop me when you've more than heard of a guy: Casey Meisner Ivan Wilson Matthew Koch Logan Verrett Blake Forsythe Robbie Shields Kirk R Nieuwenhuis Eric M Niesen Stephen P Clyne Joseph M Smith Gabriel Hernandez Leonard E. DiNardo Joshua Reynolds So like..one major leaguer and it's a middle reliever.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Which is probably why we should take him at his word this morning. OE: And heck, if he's just trying to bluff Boras that he's walking away, how can we expect Boras to buy it if we don't? Deep sad sighs, everybody. There is pretty much zero truth to anything either party says in a (semi) active negotiation.
  5. When can Seo do? Tough to schedule for everyone but it's best if everyone's there. I probably should send an email since there are..2? people that aren't here. I don't know that doing it that last week is the best time, You'd like to have a couple of days for trades and waiver claims to round out the team, but whatever works.
  6. guy's only holding on with one hand and doesn't even lean into the turn!

I have a feeling if I still lived up in NYC I'd be going to more Cyclone games than Met games. I enjoyed the A.C.Surf when they played here. They're like $10-25ish I think. So just a smidge cheaper than the Mets cheapest on cheap days, but generally half price for the average weekend game. Depends on the ease in which you can get to Coney Island I guess. I always mean to go but it's not really a convenient location for me. Plus the quality of play is much lower and 90% of the guys will never sniff the majors.
  8. MFS62 wrote: Sounds like the classic sales "Takeaway" move by Sandy. Boras may feel he has a reasonable offer from the Mets, so he's now checking out other teams to see if he can do better. And Sandy is telling Boras his interest is waning, trying to get Boras to take his offer while its still on the table. And Spring Training is about two weeks away. Interesting. Later yeah, that's how I read it. (of course, there could be another layer of subtlety I'm missing) Sounds like we have the best offer but Drew doesn't like it.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Anthony DiComo - MLB.com In a telephone interview Tuesday evening, general manager Sandy Alderson reiterated that his team is "unlikely" to sign Stephen Drew, despite the shortstop's perceived lack of suitors on the free-agent market. ... Alderson recently checked in again with Drew's agent, Scott Boras, [but] he described the talks as "sporadic." "We haven't ruled it out, but I think doing anything is unlikely," Alderson said. "I think that Stephen will always have other opportunities. We continue to monitor his situation. We're looking at other free agents that are still available and trying to judge their status, and how they might fit with us. I know there's been a lot of speculation about Drew and the Mets, but at this point, that's what it remains -- speculation." Sounds like the Mets might just be getting this guy.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: So being a corporate social media director > being a baseball beat writer. Huh. Tells you where the industry is, I guess. We had a kid doing our social media who still had his schoolboy bacne. I loved him but they dumped him after six months. E-mail Kerwick a Pool invite. well if you factor in travel and wanting to start a real life or something I guess. but probably too. Is that what he's doing? I didn't see it mentioned. As someone who dabbles in social media and SEO recreationally, I'm extremely skeptical of the 'pros'. It seems like a very touch and go field and one that does require a fair amount of executive buy in to work successfully.
  11. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I'll be in Europe either date. I might be screwed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_by_country#Europe I'm good with either, but I'll point out that given it's a keeper league, guessing who will come north and who won't and all that is part of the fun.
  12. I see updates for a trade block update... Miracle Monks's trade block has been updated! Miracle Monks on January 21, 2014 11:31 AM But, like, how do you view them? http://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/209/tradingblock When are we thinking about the draft for this year? Sometime mid/early March usually works best. Weekday night still best for everyone? Just as a starting point for discussion, Wednesday March 12th at 8:30pm EST?
  13. Edgy MD wrote: I hear ya. But I'd more hope he hits 74 homeruns. yes, and then qualifying offer him, thank him for the WS ring, and take the draft pick. He's not repeating that in 2015.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'm sort of hoping he'd come here for 1 year. Be a potential tradeaway guy at the deadline. eh, I hate playing the stock market this way. I'd more hope he has a great year and they can qualifying offer/draft pick him, or have first dibs at re-signing him if other options haven't surfaced.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: Hey, yaneverknow. Actually, I was just wondering whether that was the guy's actual name or something he was using as an internet handle. Or even, going back to his parents, whether they were aware of the mythical figure or if it's all just a coincidence. 99% sure it's his real name. It used to be Metsjetsnets..or something like that. Doing something SNY related with the Nets I think, I missed him at the QBC (not that I was planning to make him produce ID, though I have a credit card with Ceetar's name on it so..)
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Y'know, if everyone here is so adamant about the need to hang on the Josh, it wouldn't hurt to write the Mets and tell them that. It might not make a difference, but it would be even worse to worry over the move without at least saying something. write WOR you mean, since they're the ones actually doing anything here. The Mets are well aware of how we all feel about Josh Lewin, especially now that they've hired Will Carafello and have stepped up the social media game. I did submit a contact me form somewhere when someone tweeted it though.
  17. batmagadanleadoff wrote: This business with the which cap on the plaque is so antiquated. And stupid. Players like Greg Maddux have to make a zero sum choice between teams that they've played on for significant portions of their careers and made meaningful contributions to their history. Why not ditch the plaques for some computerized plasma screen for each player? With changing images. Depicting the HOF'er in every phase of his career. So that his whole career is represented? Makes sense to me. And often times these decisions reflect back to the team. If Maddux chooses a Cubs hat for instance, does he still get hired by the Braves to do things? Or vice versa? If he's looking to get in the radio booth one day, does having the wrong cap reflect badly on his chances to get the job? Well, still better than setting fire to the woods behind your house I guess.
  18. You want intrigue, here's your intrigue: Ken Rosenthal (citing multiple sources): Mets made higher offer to Balfour than Tampa. Mike Puma (quoting a Mets source): Mets made lesser offer to Balfour than Tampa. Adam Rubin (citing an "ultra-reliable" Mets source [you gonna take that, Puma?!]): Mets made the same offer to Balfour Tampa made. That's DRAMA! wtf? Is Rubin like well, I can't say they bid higher, and I can't say they bid lower, hmm.... and then he kinda mocks the contradictory reports.
  19. Grant Balfour signs with Rays despite a supposed Mets offer that may have been equal to or greater than the Rays offer. Of course, no guarantee he closes here, home's in Florida, no income tax there, Rays are as currently constructed a better team.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The combo of anonymous sources, no quotes and Megdal's POV make me skeptical of this story's truthiosity. There was a story last week that the team was instrumental in Howie keeping his job. A lot of this seems to be coming from WOR execs, not Mets ones. They're ultimately going to be radio employees, not Mets ones. And I love Josh, I think he does a great job and I'll be pissed if they don't keep him, but he's been here two years. It's not like they're kicking Bob Murphy to the curb in '95 or something. also "radio free agents"? How many thousands upon thousands of candidates must their be? This isn't like "Snap up Stephen Drew now or their will be no SS for you to sign!" They did just announce 15 games for Spring Training (or not announce, @MetsBooth tweeted it) so they must be wanting to finalize soon rigiht?
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Mets ticket prices haven't really crept up in recent years, but inched down, as demand has diminished. correct. Although really it's mostly shifted to premium games and weekends more than really went down. And they've done all sorts of deals and giveaways. But the amount of money they make directly from fan tickets is not trivial, and absolutely factors into the teams overall budget which includes payroll. The difference from KC is the potential money from the other 2million fans that could, and would, attend Mets games if they were winning. The Royals drew 2 million in their post WS years, but that was 20-25 years ago. The Mets drew 3.5 6 years ago.
  22. Vic Sage wrote: second of all, so what? Do you think for a second that if the Mets were able to drop their payroll even further but still drew 3M, that ticket prices would go DOWN? In this industry, price is based on demand, not production cost. no, ticket prices won't go down. They'll creep up, because that's what they do. But payroll? If the Mets are in an 'don't spend more than the Mets make' mode, then absolutely they might push it higher based on making more money.
  23. Mets Willets Point wrote: Surprised to see the odds so high for Washington, especially since they're ahead of teams that were in the playoffs last year (including the WS champion). Did I miss something big happening for the Nationals? they finished strong and people figured a lot of last year was bad luck. They signed Fister. Although yeah, I'd still take Boston.
  24. Mets ticket price average is probably what, $30? if they drew 3 million fans again that's 90 million dollars.
  25. Edgy MD wrote: Listing I saw said they were at 66-1, after being at 75-1 at the start of the offseason. 66-1 on Bovada. I literally just placed a bet (while looking for the Super Bowl odds for "Will it snow?" +300) a minute ago. $5 gets me $330 and a fancy Wright jersey with 2015 and the WS patch.
