A halfway decent throw and he's out by 30 feet. That's fair, on the other hand you've got 2 outs and MadBum dealing plus the Giants were fielding nervous, who says the LF doesn't spike it in a panic to get it in?
  2. The 'rule' is silly because it's so easy to leak the news and deny it publicly. Of course, this could've come from the disgruntled Renteria camp too.
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: He didn't retire -- he just said he was staying out of the comments section at his site. You would too! But he said it on his non-Mets blog which is just silly. I didn't think he went into the comments of his site anyway.

  7. after arb which I think is 11/15. I mean, you can drop 'em now but on the off chance someone wants to give a +$1 to a guy you're going to drop, you save money by waiting. And before 1/31. That's the keeper deadline.

Also, Arbitration. Got another 2 weeks or so to make everyone elses rosters more expensive.
  9. well then, how about Ted Berg Kayaking in McCovey Cove? http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/10/mccovey-cove-kayaking-san-francisco-giants-world-series-mlb AND snapping a nifty cellphone picture while doing it? [fimg=300]https://usatftw.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/cove2.jpg[/fimg]

It was just a line from one of the recent stories about the wall (I forget exactly where) citing those 7 & 4 figures as coming from NYM sources. just reaching back into my brain, I think I read that on Metsblog and attributed to Mark Simon. Landing spots of 2014 HR have little relevance of 2015 HR anyway. particularly in random tiny stretches of track. Also, Granderson wasn't really bad last year, in fact, he was better than average. People are forgetting to adjust for park and offensive era since 2013-2014 seems to be a new low. Of course, now he's switching hitting coaches again (And he wasn't real great in 2013 with the new guy)

  12. There's a white panel on the CF wall by the apple. That's the difference between 2013-2014 dimensions and 2015 dimensions. prior to next year, the wall curve out a little bit before going across towards the apple. now it'll stay straighter.
  13. batmagadanleadoff wrote: [fimg=722]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B09DjOxCIAE3Afd.jpg:large[/fimg] Is that "white track" where the new wall will be? Because if so, that looks like a major overhaul of dimensions. What is that ---- 15 ... 20 feet closer? like..4? look at the white on the wall. that's the difference.
  14. I think it's just straightening the wall Look at the Xerox ad (The one in the left of the picture) it bends away from home plate. make it straight. Look atthe picture from the chopper. There's a wide spot on the fence which I imagine is before/after. 3 feet?
  15. The big scary slugger is Duda anyway.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: Where/when was Maddon talking to 4 or 5 other teams? Most initial reports had his agent reaching out to other teams prior to this.
  17. Oh, clearly. It's weird how sometimes teams seem to leak even the innermost workings of contract negotiations, and yet Maddon supposedly talked with 4-5 teams and we didn't hear a peep. Weird timing too, Friday afternoon? Maybe he really does end up taking a year to drum up interest.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Joel Sherman already weighs in with a piece citing the Mets as #2 guess behind only the Cubs as the 2016 landing spot for Maddon. The logical assumption, the Dodgers on account of the Rays President landing there recently, seems content with Mattingly but that could change in a hurry if they're not in the mix next season with that massive payroll. Dodgers and Mets have both weighed in that they're not switching managers. All this stuff happened days ago, this is just media catching up on all the angles.
  19. TransMonk wrote: Ceetar wrote: I mean, the Mets aren't going make only one move regardless. In my heart, I believe and hope this to be true...but this statement is not a certainty. Presumed health and internal roster machinations haven't gotten the job done over the past 6 years. Am I being greedy for wanting more than a handful of extra wins? Has there ever been a season where the 12 of the 13ish offensive players from last year return for next year?
  20. I mean, the Mets aren't going make only one move regardless. Even if Cuddyer is the 'main' acquisition, they're going to probably bring in another backup OF of some sort, even on a minor league deal. They'll be reaching out to MI guys. Pick up a reliever or two because he might be worthwhile. This coupled with a presumably healthy David Wright and Matt Harvey and all the other internal roster machinations that could easily net them a handful of wins, or more, than this year?
  21. Edgy MD wrote: I don't know what the price tag is or what other maneuvers might come. All I think is that they're a better team with him than without him. Indeed. He's certainly worth a look and a discussion. There ARE probably a half dozen other guys with similar usefulness though. He's hardly the most singular or necessarily best choice. years, money, etc.
  22. eh, martino. Cuddyer's the popular choice to talk about because he has that Wright-friendship angle.
  23. smg58 wrote: I'm still trying to figure out what the problem was with Lamar Johnson. Duda totally turned things around on his watch, and d'Arnaud and Niewenhuis started showing signs of life for the first time under his watch as well. Honestly, Hudgens having a job when this guy doesn't strikes me as a miscarriage of justice. Duda was already good, and was good last year too. Nieuwenhuis as well. He'd been 'good' all year, and since his call-up last year. just hasn't gotten much time. I mean, most of the ineptitude was more that the Abreu/Young Jr/Flores/den Dekker guys suck and can't/couldn't hit. Flores and den Dekker picked it up in late September, but, grain of salt there. They're probably looking at something deeper than strict 2014 performance.
