I know SNY is basically the official sponsor, and various Mets officials will be there. So I doubt if they slapped a Mets logo on something it would matter.

It was bound to happen at least once this offseason. the clue here i think is how no one seems to be nailing down a firm number for the 'offer'. and generally you don't hear about offers that just sit there for hours/days unaccepted.

  8. Adam Rubin, pissing in everyone's cornflakes: Adam Rubin ESPN Staff Writer From a second person in the know: The Mets maintain contact with Yoenis Cespedes' representatives about a short-term deal, but it is likely he gets a longer-term deal, or one with a higher average annual value, and signs elsewhere. I'm pretty sure the cornflakes thing is his actual title, not 'Staff Writer'

    There's a bus transfer I think, but I'm driving so I dunno.

If the agents were just trying to pump up interest, this would have been leaked to more sources. There's always someone leaking something if the sides are talking. if they're not actively negotiating we're in the same place we've been for weeks.

Heyman reported yesterday that the Mets were one of few teams still in contact with Cespedes and appeared to be firm on a 2-3 year offering. There seemed to be other reports mentioning Atlanta so my guess is Cespedes' agent is trying to drum up more interest right now and seeing if anyone is willing to go more.
  12. I have zero faith this is any more info than we knew yesterday. (That the Mets were still talking to Cespedes, but were talking shorter deal)
  13. FanGraphs Depth Chart projections are a combination of ZiPS and Steamer projections with playing time allocated by our staff. I'm not sure if those formulas are public or not, but there is more info out there.

  15. the real story here is that David Wright is _already_ in Spring Training. Poor Molly.

  18. I leaped to the wrong statistic. I'd remembered that the Mets had just surpassed 4000 this season and got all excited. Turns out that was Wins, not HR.

When I watch Sandy talk, I get the sense that not even he believes what he is relaying in interviews. However, my faith is in his abilities as a GM, not in his ability to truthfully communicate with the press. The GM has to speak. The media needs to fill columns. The other thing is it doesn't really make sense for Alderson to give away information in relation to budget or pursuit of players. (And the leaks we hear are designed to give away specific information) There's a lot of cat and mouse going on between teams and agents.
  20. every single thing Sandy Alderson says is bullshit. He's a GM.
  21. after tough losses I'd go out and get hammered and photographed with unsavory people to give the media something to talk about and take the pressure off the team. I'd stock the press box so full of snacks and free pizza and amenities to lull said media into a sleepy haze. Lavish praise upon them. Hire a masseuse. Double up on the interesting facts/game notes they get. Oh, and I'd take the rivalry with the Yankees up 17 notches.

  23. d'Kong76 wrote: Forbes had the Mets valued at $1,350,000,000 last spring, so theoretically you should be able to buy 51% with one's winnings. I guess since we're stretching credulity anyway, we can go with that number and also pretend you'd have even half the that with the Powerball winnings after taxes. First thing I'd do is construction to Citi Field. I'd open up the roof of the Mets offices (That building behind the Bridge that connects to the Pepsi..err, whatever...) and turn it into a biergarten where you can watch the game. I might do a similar thing to the Left Field promenade outfield seats. flatten it out. Then I'd figure out how to add seats, another deck? preferably 10k or so. Second I'd contract a group of 'superfans' to be a sounding board for fan outreach for cool in and out stadium promotions and celebrations.

That's why I said partner with other rich Mets fans. Gotta' have operating capital. Later I'm not sure the take-home from the Powerball is enough to even be the deciding partner that gets to make these decisions.
