Diamondbacks also set the record this year. Nationals. Dodgers. Royals. probably more.
  2. Everyone's still in right? Anyone want to be first alternate for someone that may or may not come back? I was able to add a site password which should prevent people from randomly grabbing accidentally abandoned teams. the password for the league is 'ed'.

Like a 2 PM start is somehow better than two prime time games to choose from. There was a time, I think in the early 90s, when they did simultaneous playoff games. Back then, I was someone who wanted to be able to watch every game, and I didn't like that they were doing that. Now, of course, I'm not going to watch any baseball until next March 29, so I no longer care. you know this is a thread about WATCHING a baseball game tomorrow right?
  5. Yeah, there's been a bit too much "Yankees are back look at us we're the best forever" and I'd very much enjoy the "Haven't won a playoff game since 2012." to remain true.

I have to assume that's in the contracts of the television stations right? It'd be great for MLB interest to flip constantly between two, but you might flip off a game and stay on the other if it's more interesting.
  7. Divison and a playoff situation would be kinda cool, yes.
  8. Twins are gonna destroy them.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: But it's still the official American League record, isn't it? and Stanton is still 61 away from tying _that_.
  10. seems a stretch to think he'll hit 15 in a weekend.
  11. I suspect most owners that spend billions of dollars voice their opinions. The situation in St. Louis is almost identical for instance. Yes, it's nice to have one guy calling all the shots, but even if you have someone with absolute power they still delegate, they still ask for opinions. Why wouldn't the owner have one? If you're on the fence about firing someone, and the owner makes a good case to keep him, is it really bad if you listen temporarily? Another inconsistency is citing Collins' preference for veterans like it was his decision not to promote Rosario earlier. We can play the guessing game here. Which young(er)? player has an over-inflated opinion of himself and thinks he deserved more playing time? Flores? He's the only one that's been there all year. Unless it was a "hey, promote me!" from Plawecki or Reynolds or something, but again, not on Terry. And neither is not playing Flores more who's very average.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I know how little respect you have for journalists, but a club's COO being overruled by his 80-year-old father is not an aspect of "roughly any" managerial controversy. I don't believe that happened that way. I don't like how formulaic the article is. and the timing is, as usual, suspect. It's not June. It's the end of the season after the last home game. And you could swap Wilpon for DeWitt and Collins for Matheny and post that in St Louis and everyone would believe it was written about them.
  13. “It was Murphy’s Law in Queens this year, that’s the bottom line,” one player said. “And with that type of stuff happening, there’s almost no choice but for turmoil to follow.” pretty much sums it up. my favorite is the things touted as virtues when we were winning are issues when we're losing. It's either that or how you could've written this story at roughly any managerial firing without changing very much.
  14. The Hale and Hearty soup sponsorship will be nice too.
  15. I kinda like Ventura but it's just a gut/nostalgia thing.
  16. HahnSolo wrote: That was a pretty lousy, lazy article from Heyman. Zeile is the only name I hadn't heard elsewhere. What was with the multiple NY Post mentions in the Ventura entry? Is there some kind of zing at Mike Puma that I'm missing? I assumed as much because it was Heyman, and late September, talking about something that hasn't even happened yet. Did Ventura have a beef with the post when he was here maybe? who knows.
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think they could use an outside pitcher and will definitely bring in 1 or 2. I think I can prepare an open-the-vaults argument to go after Otani. and there are rumors he wants to play with Darvish. So get him too.

The Mets have hit more homers than at any time in their history, and yet are 20th in scoring. They need baserunners. This. That's because they're not _walking_. because they're putting TOO MANY balls in play. You know what else they're 20th in? Out of zone contact %, ascending. They're 18th in BB% but 7th in .ISO. Lucas Duda has 30 HR and 49 Runs. No one drove him in all year. (well, 19) I don't know where those bunt numbers come from .Fangraphs has the Bunt attempts at 750 in 2011, with a 23.4% success rate. That's down to 497 with a 25.8% in 2017. What's that? a .516 OPS? You'd only need 1 single or walk in 4 tries to do better than that.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Like it's an either/or decision. There are only so many hours in the day, so many things you can work on. Adding "bunting clinic" to the list is like..40th and I think there might be more value in having all the players an hour more rested than having spending an hour working on bunting.
  20. There are so few situations where bunting is clear and away the best strategy that I'd much rather players focus on other more useful skills. Like pitchers actually working on hitting. I'd rather Rosario take whatever time he'd spend bunting focused on pitch recognition and being more selective.
  21. good way to pull a hamstring. It's 2017+ and home runs are leaving the yard at record paces. I hope Washington fills it's lineup with guys that can drop down bunt hits.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: It didn't seem to be something he wasn't good at, so much as something that was completely alien to him. Like the Mets had asked him to try and punt one inside the 20, or slap on some fencing gear and execute a passata sotto. Systemic neglect of fundies is a concern. The Mets should run an all-bunting mini-camp. as in one where they say "never do this" and teach them about run expectancies?
  23. Viola's the only guy I'd want within the top ranks of the organization if they're moving on.
  24. 41Forever wrote: Terry deserves a rousing ovation on his final home game with a scoreboard tribute and whatever else the team can muster for the guy who has managed more games than anyone else in franchise history, including a National League championship on his resume. which would be tomorrow which makes the 'leaking' of this today/yesterday oddly timely.
  25. second half of the season is probably when people in charge of this stuff start working on the revisions. Like how the Mets 2018 calendar comes out 10/1. (d'Arnaud, Lagares, Familia, Harvey, Lugo, deGrom, Cespedes, Syndergaard, Wright, Matz, Conforto, Gsellman) A lot of it's just projecting who they think will be marketable in 2018, and at the very best Collins wasn't/isn't a sure thing.
