  1. Lindor gunned down for the second time today. This time Trevino (the catcher) threw him out by 5 feet trying to steal third. I think he was truly irritating Singer with his jockeying off second. He should have stayed there and given Soto a chance to drive him in when the pitcher was being distracted.
  2. Torrens guns down Elle Cruz to end the 3rd. I can't recall a catcher as adept at throwing out runners attempting to steal as Torrens has been the past 2 years. Ivan "Pudge" Rodrigues was damn good, as was Yadier Molina. I can't think of anyone else that rivals the quick release with a strong and accurate throw that Torrens has displayed since coming to the Mets.
  3. Tong gets taken yard again to rebuild the Reds lead to 3-1. Tong learning, he's not in Syracuse anymore. If you just throw fastballs, MLB hitters will eventually catch up to it, no matter how hard you throw.
  4. Nimmo with the sac fly to LF for the Mets first run. Singer plunks Pete to reload the bases. McNeil promptly grounds out to end the inning.
  5. The opposition seems to be catching on to the Mets breaking early for second. Catchers may not be throwing out Mets runners, but increasingly more frequently pitchers are hanging them out to dry for easy outs.
  6. Unbelievable!!!
  7. Wow. Purely giving this game away.
  8. No 1-2-3 tonight.
  9. Strap yourself in. Hoping Diaz can give us a clean 1-2-3 inning.
  10. Run Acuna, Run!
  11. We need some insurance runs.
  12. Amazingly, Stanek gets out of the inning unscathed.
  13. Mendoza must have far more faith in the bullpen than he does his starters. Once the starter gets through 5 innings, they are on a short leash and generally pulled as soon as someone gets on base.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Also, who signed off on these togs The Reds are wearing? They are atrocious. The look like ugly softball uniforms.
  15. The way Alvarez is placing his throwing hand behind his back to protect it is the way Johnny Bench caught. It was the way I was taught to catch. I don't know why catchers got away from it, particularly when there are no runners on base.
  16. I like your optimism, but it is unlikely that either Soto or Alonso get an at bat.
  17. Whatever the issue is, Helsley has been a disaster since coming to the Mets.
  18. Looks like Sproat is either very good or very bad. It appears to be alternating between good and bad.
  19. Man, Alonso is so good at picking low throws. He saves a lot of errors for the Mets infielders with his proficiency.
  20. I would have been more prone to going with Mauricio batting left handed, if I was to hit for Marte.
  21. A walk to Soto and a high chopper infield single by Alonso and the Mets are in business. Need a hit from Nimmo.
  22. and there goes the lead. A wild pitch and a 2 strike single plates both inherited runners.
  23. Once again, a Mets starter can't get through 5 innings. Holmes goes, 4.2 innings, but at least he was pretty effective. He held the Tigers to 1 run, but has men on 1st and 2nd with G. Soto hoping to close out the 5th.
  24. The Mets squander the momentum they had coming out of the sweep of the Phillies. Big game tomorrow as the Mets need to salvage a series split with the Marlins.
  25. Mullins is tying run at the plate with 2 outs.
