  1. ="Benjamin Grimm"]="bmfc1"]METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Gary Sheffield LF Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 3B Daniel Murphy 1B Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (8-8, 4.88) Look at that lineup: Only two of the starting eight (Murphy and Castillo) were supposed to be regulars back when the season began, and one of them, Murphy, isn't playing in his expected position (left field). You Betcha...How many of the above names will be members of Mets University next year 3?
  2. Sullivan 1 Wright 1.25 Sheffield 1 Tatis 1 Perez 1.5 Stokes 1
  3. Castillo 0.75 Pagan 0.75 Parnell 5 Stokes 0.75 Feliciano 0.75 F. Rodriguez 0.75
  4. I'm not big on retired numbers, but if they are going to I need to accept that in the era of free agency some under consideraton may not have a long string of years as a Met to consider. Under that caveat..I don't have a problem with a Piazza retirement. I suspect if the Mets can put some fannies in the seats with a few manufactured retirement days they eventually will.
  5. Castillo 2 Sullivan 0.5 Murphy 0.5 A. Hernandez 0.5 Santana 1.5
  6. Purpose of the crack was to be mean and show his MFY induced sense of entitlement Hoping David is resting comfortably. He certainly deserves the best. You can add Wallace Matthews to the Sunday hack list
  7. Great night for a ballgame Kudos on the "Mats' Westerberg video** LETS
  8. After one big hitting year Hall just stopped hitting. He has been hampered by nagging injuries and thus might fit in.
  9. I don't care for retro Jerseys, but this NY Giants one is "OK" I thought it might have lapels and it doesn't. I hope it doesn't come with a baggy cap. These retro things remind me of the White Sox short pants motif in the 70's. David Wright in shorts..That would be a hoot
  10. Sullivan 1.5 Francouer 1 Cora 1 Redding 2 Stokes 1
  11. Omar "well, Santos has been a surprise" and the realization that 90 losses may be in the cards but stubhub tells me I can sit in the promendade of almost any remaining game for $5.

It's been a while, no doubt. Good game from Sully. Frayed Knot Aug 11 2009 09:48 PM Oh gee, and an error burns us AGAIN! PiggiesTomatoes Aug 11 2009 09:49 PM Granted, wins are more enjoyable than losses but there's barely an element of entertainment with these fucks. I'm having trouble liking these guys. Hey. look, Luis had his head up his ass (again). LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 11 2009 09:53 PM Luis isn't taking his Schaefer loss very well. Valadius Aug 11 2009 09:58 PM Paging Casey Stengel... paging Casey Stengel... nobody here can play this game... LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 11 2009 10:15 PM Walked leadoff man! metsguyinmichigan Aug 11 2009 10:21 PM Have the players quit on Manuel, or are they just over-matched? LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 11 2009 10:25 PM Those aren't necessarily mutually-exclusive. PiggiesTomatoes Aug 11 2009 10:34 PM Couldn't listen to the DB TV announcers so I switched to WFAN and Howie Rose made a very good point late in the game. That point was that Mets pitching woes have been such that when the team takes the field the only time the players must feel they have a reasonable expectation of winning is when Santana takes the mound. Howie was very direct in referring to The Tall Glass of Water as a tremendous disappointment. Master OTO, Wayne Hagin, next chimes in wondering out loud how things were going to get better. I believe that's accurate and a factor as to why recent play has been so sloppy. I know they're professionals but that must be mentally taxing. Not that I wouldn't give a nut to be so taxed. Valadius Aug 11 2009 10:40 PM We are, for the most part, throwing out guys in the everyday lineup who are either: A) Way past their prime Not ready for the big show C) Not major league starter material with the exception of David Wright, who has magically lost his ability to hit home runs, and Luis Castillo, who has forgotten how to play defense. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 12 2009 08:27 AM I was so CAHNfident in our inability to win this game I turned it off during the pitching change with the tying run at the plate and went to bed. Woke up not the least bit surprised to find we didn't score then, or for the rest of the evening. With the possible exception of Cory Hotline, they are playing with near total indifference, and a night after Jerry aired them out for that. And I make no exception for Cory. They are overmatched --- a month of Daniel Murphy batting cleanup will move future researchers to do some serious head scratching --- but that should make them more focused on strategemeric thinking, not less. That said, every time Livan starts a game, I think, "Oh, yeah, he's still here," so disengagement has spread to me. I'd really like to talk to Sheffield about why on earth he wants to go down with this ship. 15. I don't think Rubin has an axe here. Ricco would appear to be in training for a promotion A change in appearance and voice from Omar..thats for sure I hope he is not better suited to do morning swauk on cnbc This is an ill franchise
  16. Is this the worst starting lineup in NY Mets history?
  17. Castillo 1/3 Schneider 1/3 Francoeur 1/3 Sheffield--all AL teams
  18. ="Edgy DC":146x4wwv]I wonder if Castillo had ever previously slugged .447 over a month in his life.[/quote:146x4wwv] only his wife? LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 11 2009 03:22 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Aug 11 2009 03:34 PM Like any redblooded Met fan, I enjoy me a Johan start (with a side of Johan double, preferably). That said, his Schaefer wins have started to feel like the house taking down blackjack hands. ="Ashie62":1bo60rk5]="Edgy DC":1bo60rk5]I wonder if Castillo had ever previously slugged .447 over a month in his life.[/quote:1bo60rk5] only his wife?[/quote:1bo60rk5] Wow. That's pretty repugnant, and-- perhaps worse-- not at all funny or enlightening. G-Fafif Aug 11 2009 03:34 PM ="Edgy DC":2tbev31w]I wonder if Castillo had ever previously slugged .447 over a month in his life.[/quote:2tbev31w] Twice in more or less full months. August 1999: .450 in 27 games. Also struck out 22 times, which he never again matched. May 2008: .472 in 22 games. That was the month of his last three homers. Frayed Knot Aug 11 2009 04:37 PM "Castillo led the Mets in July with 28 hits, a .368 batting average, a .447 slugging percentage and a .478 OBP, as well as 4 stolen bases.
