  1. Good news: he'll be nearly untouchable. He'll be blown up twice, on two badly-located pitches. The rest of the time, ridiculous, to the tune of an 1.34 ERA and 98 K/22 BB over 65 innings or so, ridiculous to the point of tempting overuse... leading to... Bad news: Injury in September. Missed month for arthroscopic surgery to clean up the knee. Back in time for the second round of the playoffs... if we get there.

Wherever he winds up, he'll be that rare player that makes a better window than a door. Because he's practically translucent, see? [bow tie spins] Also, he'll go .321/.352/.470, but like, a WEIRD .470, with, like, 2 HRs and 17 triples.
  3. Struggles with the glove and-- worse-- bat early, and loses his starting gig this summer, the Summer of Guillorme. Flores-like resurgence in fan estimation late, as he delivers a couple of big PH extra-base hits against the Marlins and Braves during the season's last week, helping secure the NL East for Ol' Metsie. The stats, though, look kinda meh: 280 PA, .258/.347/.450, 10 HR, 33 RBI, 32 R, 0.2 WAR
  4. Growing, showing, missing nearly a month with a nagging oblique situation: 510 PA, .270/.358/.488, 22 HR, 81 RBI, 76 R, 3 WAR or thereabouts
  5. Like, he jumps out of the back window just before the cops kick in the front door? Speedy, line-drive-sprinkled advancement to AA by year's end.
  6. De La Cruz gets no more than a cup of Coco in September: 6 IP, 6.00 ERA
  7. Castro-- who has ankles that look birdlike even on HIS skinny frame-- is throwing some mean stuff, though. His control is pretty Benitez-on-a-Bad-Day, but if it's ANYWHERE near the strike zone on a consistent basis, he could be interesting.
  8. McNeil's RBI double quells some fevers of doubt, doesn't it?
  9. "That is NOT the voice I expected out of THAT guy, or the face that I expected with that voice." -BetterHalfer, looking up momentarily from her book to catch a glimpse of Guillorme. Oh, I feel you, wifey.
  10. Wait... wasn't Oswalt, like, NON-Metsy, right? I'm not hallucinating that he was DFAed a month ago, right?
  11. With most observers giving him only token consideration as a potential starter before spring training started AND wondering aloud about how much of a mirage his offense is... Guillorme just keeps bringing the damn work, doesn't he? He got through that inning "clean," but having seen it with mine own peepers: control-wise, Vizcaino is kind of a goddamn mess. Had poor Mazeika scrambling around like a hockey goalie during a rapidfire drill.
  12. Elbow weirdness is nothing! Comes back a week into the season to make 30 starts, throwing just shy of 200 innings with a 3.38 ERA, 10.6 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, and 16 wins! There's no problem! It's all good, baby! Why am I smiling so HARD?
  13. Interesting musical cue. And by "interesting," I mean, "it's interesting in how completely inappropriate it is, in pretty much every respect." AAA to start, then a shot in late May, finalmente. 4.22 ERA or so, 35 IP or so. Productive, mostly, and blown the fuck out once or twice to pump that ERA up a bit.
  14. =smg58 post_id=57675 time=1615384053 user_id=62] I wouldn't assume we've heard the last of Hildenburger this year. Possibly not Vientos either.
  15. 10+ K/9, 3.5 BB/9, 3.08 ERA... over about 38 IP, sandwiched around a DL stint
  16. "Sore arm" is one thing. "Sore elbow" is quite another. Especially when accompanied by numerous notes and Tweets from beat reporters treating his missing Opening Day as a fait accompli.

Edgy MD wrote: Sam McWilliams walks three, follows with three deep-count outs to close. ♫♫ Looks like a Thor Feels like Be-ni-tez ♫♫ Man, that Easy Spirit jingle is timeless comedy gold, isn't it? And here I was, worried it wouldn't scan. (Lately, I also find myself dropping twists on the TCBY "All of the flavor/none of the guilt" in political debate/discourse with friends and family.) That said, as the kids say, I think I'm still here for McWilliams.
  18. =G-Fafif post_id=57653 time=1615326075 user_id=55] Sam McWilliams walks three, follows with three deep-count outs to close.
  19. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT against terrible, last-rung-of-the-baseball-ladder competish, but still
  20. There's white, there's white, and there's WHITE. Crow-Armstrong is, like, translucent. Notwithstanding Gary's weird praise of him earlier, C. B. Bucknor remains pretty f'ing awful.
  21. Brook-a-leen. Which is probably for the best, because if he goes up north and starts sleeping with all of Jake Barnes' buddies, it's probably gonna end up in a mess of fistfights, bullshit, and regret.
  22. One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh, but the earth abideth. So does this dude, in Syracuse-- where the sun also goes up and down-- for pretty much the entire year.
  23. Fun story from the booth about Ol' Yadier F's defensive work last week in a Spring Training game. The video-- including some ill-advised rookie trash talk, and some sustained eye contact-- is https://www.mlb.com/news/yadier-molina-dares-runner-throws-him-outentertaining.
  24. Mike Shildt is the manager of the Cardinals. This is a fact I JUST learned now, despite the attendant facts that he has been so for four seasons and won NL Manager of the Year in 2019.
