  1. I have known many woman older than I who truly were nuts about him. I was just 18 when he died and though I didn't dislike him, I wasn't thrilled. I'm surprised by the later rockers that said he influenced them I think you're right; it was a matter of time before a white boy (read ‘safe') emulated the music of the black man. Although hilariously, he proved to be anything but innocent
  2. Well Doris Day and little Richard come to mind. Love her; can't stand him. But I guess that makes it a weird twosome in just my eyes. Elvis is the perfect mediocre for me. Maybe it really is a perfect matchup
  3. Some interesting matchups there

  5. =vtmet7 post_id=110407 time=1665235549 user_id=80] I keep hearing/reading all this debate about whether Judge or Ohtanti for MVP but is either one really an MVP? The way that I interpret Most Valuable Player is: If this guy wasn't there, would they still be a playoff team? The Angels suck, so how is Ohtani an MVP? And while Judge pretty much had the best season of anyone, would the Yanks still win the AL East without him? Likely yes...Would the Astros machine still win minus any specific player? Most likely yes... However, if you take Jose Ramirez away from the Indians/Guardians, would they win the AL Central? I severely doubt it...so how is he not being mentioned as the clear favorite in the AL MVP?
  6. I lived and died by the Mets for 30 years...and then my dad died. It was 2007, on Labor Day, and you can look it up, the Mets crashed and died too. Some of you still talk about it. The last thing I whispered in my dad's ear when they were ready to close the casket was "Pedro's pitching tonight"...but that was about the last good thing that happened that year. I don't know maybe Pedro sucked that night and that started it all. All that being said, in 1986 I walked on air for a week, in 2000 I was in a trance for a week when they lost. I get roger's angst. They really can get under your skin.

  19. =Methead post_id=109874 time=1664916437 user_id=61] You guys remember that stretch run in '99, when the Mets had to run the table and get help from other teams just to force a one-game playoff for the Wild Card spot? How fun and exciting that was? This... does not have that feel.
  20. =ashie62 post_id=109872 time=1664915856 user_id=90] I saw my breath outside this morning
