  1. Endy Chavez is the brother of Ender Chavez.
  2. And the best hitting pitchers by year.
  3. Here's an article on pitchers used as pinch hitters, but it's not all that good.
  4. I would assume Oberkfell, by all accounts a strong managerial prospect, would be the replacement, but I'm for keeping Willie.
  5. The St. Louis Browns used to bat Ned Garver 6th or 7th when he pitched, because he was that much better a hitter than some of their regulars.
  6. A West Coast trip is never good for fattening, The Diamonbacks have shown no signs of flattening. So here, for Metly KTE cognition, How we stack up, position by position. At Dback backstop, Snyder's on the schneid, While our man Schneider's mostly on the side, Their guy is at .210 with just one dinger, Ours suffered an infection on his finger. At first base, Conor Jackson knocks down walls; Delgado - two home runs, no curtain calls. At second, O-Dog's Golden Glove and All-Star Our man Castillo doesn't hit the ball far, He'll often bunt, but sometimes hit it longer, A better strategy if his legs were stronger. At shortstop, Stephen Drew. Distinction: him And his two older bros, JD and Tim, Over three separate seasons pulled a hat trick: Three siblings, every one a first round draft pick. But family doesn't join you when you play - Our trio's best: Jose, Jose, Jose. Reynolds, at third, is good for going yard -- Still, choosing the best guy here isn't hard, He may have seven to our David's four, By season's end, the Wright man will have more. A TV fixture, Eric Byrnes can talk, I'm satisfied if M. Alou can walk. In center, Young is young, and would appear Just at the threshold of a fine career (Came very close to Rookie of the Year) But we have got CarLOS iVAN BelTRAN And till he is dethroned, he's still the man. Over in right, I'd give it a tossup from Our man Ryan Church to their man Upton, Both new in their position, both appealing -- They say that Upton has the higher ceiling, That he's the guy the fans should keep their eye on, But we are not displeased with our guy Ryan. Figuring out the pitching matchup sucks,. Given both staffs are in a state of fiux. On Friday night, New York is starting Maine, For Dbacks, Owings' ankle may have pain. That will move Webb up in the rotation, Whenever he shows up, he's no vacation. Saturday we've slotted Figueroa, After relief today, perhaps no go-a. We finish with a duel of pitching titans, Santana terrorizes. Haren frightens. The desert's been our friend. Say, two of three? Respectfully submitted. KTE.
  7. The episode where Zach gets addicted to video games and Cody quits as London's producer?
  8. Chicken - no, that's the great thing about sports. You can have real emotional involvement, real joy, real despair -- but it doesn't really hurt you. The Bobby Thompson home run was the most painful blow of my young life -- now it's part of the nostalgia for my youth, of which the most vivid memory is that I saw Jackie Robinson play. The good stuff stays longer.
  9. Can we break another water main?
  10. Turns out it was Keith. Taught him everything he knew about hitting lefties. If he's throwing hard, you stay back in the box. if he's throwing offspeed, you move up.
  11. I believe I've described my philosophy on baseball and fandom before, but in case I haven't, it's this. Let me root, root root for the home team If they don't win... It's a shame. It's not a national disaster, like a Ron Paul or George Bush presidency, it's not a personal betrayal of me. It's a shame. Doesn't stop me from root root rooting again the next day, or the next year.
  12. Well, yeah, and black. He's on the block.
  13. Not how smart? Not smart enough to know that the DL is retroactive? Not smart enough to ask for a medical report on Schneider?
  14. Reyes 3 Wright 2 Santana 2 Wagner 1 Schoeneweis 1 Sosa 1
  15. Current Streak: 0 games Longest Streak: 0 games 4/30: Carlos Beltran
  16. I wish all good things for Davey. He's my man.
  17. If it's between a live organist and the Curly Shuffle, I'll agitate for the organist. Can we get a movement going?
  18. What you really look for in a manager is demonstrated lack of confidence in his players.
  19. Figueroa 3 Smith 0.5 Schoeneweis 0.5 Feliciano 0.5 Wagner 0.5 Delgado 3 Casanova 2
  20. 5 -- platooning in OF with Jesse Orosco.
  21. Think that'll go in Casanova's memoirs?
  22. Only one more...and Wags still perfect.
  23. He's currently not beig used as an effective pitcher.
  24. Start Seaver. ]The inexplicable happened on this date over a period of years. Tom Seaver started for the Mets on April 26 in 1970, '71, '72 and '74. He not only won each start, he pitched a complete game in each and never walked a batter. His composite pitching line for the four starts was 36 innings, 24 hits, four runs (all earned), no walks and 25 strikeouts. His ERA: 1.00.
