1. Not much to criticize on Loopy tonight
2. That's great.
3. David Wright naked?
4. Anyone know when Kaz comes back?
5. Saw it too long ago to discuss it scene for scene, but I give it a 9, and the second half worked really well for me.
6. None of our blue chip prospects lost.
7. Bill Veeck had an ashtray built into his artificial leg, and he loved to freak out strangers by pulling it out and knocking his cigar ash into it.That's a great quote, G-F. I'll pick up the issue.
8. Yeah, but you're talking about two REAL baseball men.I loved the story about Charlie Finley calling Veeck's widow and introducing himself..."I'm a maverick, just like your husband."Her response. "Mr. Finley, you may be a maverick, but you're NOTHING like my husband."
9. And the deadline is dead.
10. Three minutes to deadline.
11. This is what I get for not putting this in the form of a poll.
12. I don't remember who I heard this joke from, but I remember, as a kid, teaching it to Chevy Chase, who was a few years younger than me. Later Chevy did in one of the early National Lampoon shows, and I'm sorry he wasn't included in the movie. He did a great version.
13. Well, yeah, I agree with that. I don't want to see our top prospects frittered away either. I was looking more for a general optimism-pessimism scale, or a fight-retreat scale.
14. Just wondering...the Mets can't deal Trax (assuming they wanted to) because he's on the DL, right? But could they offer a player to be named later in a deal, and have it be Trax?
15. Then what's the rotation, and who do we deal?
16. I wonder if there's any correlation between Met fans political leanings and their buyer/seller attitudes? Are liberals or conservatives more likely to be bullish on the Mets' chances for any given season?Mole: Lib, buyer
17. Hasn't come up here yet. But it's a don't miss as far as I'm concerned.
18. Now, that's baseball.
19. They should have included a scene of someone telling the joke in the Mets clubhouse, with translators giving the Japanese, Korean and Spanish versions.
20. And maybe the best ever...Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu, by John Updike
21. Thinking of other classic pieces of baseball writing, in particular Damon Runyon:] This is the way old Casey Stengel ran yesterday afternoon, running his home run home. This is the way old Casey Stengel ran, running his home run home in a Giant victory by a score of 5 to 4 in the first game of the worlds series of 1923. This is the way old [he was 34] Casey Stengel ran, running his home run home This is the way--His mouth wide open. His warped old legs bending beneath him at every strike. His arm flying back and forth like those of a man swimming with a crawl stroke. His flanks heaving, his breath whistling, his head far back The warped old legs, twisted and bent by many a year of baseball campaigns just barely held out under Casey Stengel until he reached the plate, running his home run home. Then they collapsed."
22. Does anyone in the Iorg family have an ordinary first name?
23. Gil Hodges and Roger Maris should both be in the Hall of Fame.
