  1. Well, he wouldn't have to ruin it.
  2. This mighta been a good deposit in the Post-Mortem thread as well.
  3. No, we're looking for a guy who got a call during an outfield pinch. Briefly serving as a fifth outfielder provides for few opportunities to make an impression — maybe one start, perhaps an early throw-away pinch-hitting appearance in the fourth, perchance a last-man-standing pinch-hitting appearance in the 11th, and conceivably even a call to pinch-run for a fat catcher in the eighth. If you don't show your shit immediately, it's a ticket back to Palookaville and very likely a long time before the phone rings again. So yeah, this guy got a chance to be a fifth outfielder, got a paucity of opportunities, totally Emil Brown'd it when those chances were there, got sent down with an ass full of splinters 19 days later, and hasn't been heard from since.
  4. Not Flexie. This guy's career ended with the COVID lockdown.
  5. DREW SMITH IS ONE OF THE NAMES! Well done! You win a golf cart filled with a year's supply of M&M products, being driven up by Brandee right now! Would you like to drive that cart home now or RISK IT ALL FOR A TRIP TO EVANSVILLE, INDIANA BY CORRECTLY GUESSING THE SECOND NAME?!!
  6. It's nitpicking over analogies but it doesn't sound like the team is lacking a Keith Hernandez and a Gary Carter. It sounds like they have a surfeit of Carters and it's Hernandez, Knight, and maybe Mookie that they lack. Who knows? We call it chemistry, but chemistry is a hard science with laws. What makes a team a cohesive and effective unit is a lot more fuzzy.
  7. Sewald who, of course, played with Sewaldattle this year, is close, but not quite who we are looking for.
  8. No, but one of the two guys called up that day is indeed still with the team.
  9. Also sent the Mets Jim Kern who they promptly flipped to the Reds in the Foster deal.
  10. The Mets lost Hansel Robles to the Angels on a waiver claim, July 23, 2018. The previous day, Hans had been designate for assignment. On the same day, AJ Ramos was transferred to the 60-day IL (then called the DL). What two additions to the roster were the Mets making room for?
  11. I'm totally missing my Hansel.
  12. Well, this game is a lot of things, but at its core, it's a Yankee-Red Sox game. If there were any two teams in baseball who could be statistically shown to average a longer game time per matchup, I would call bullshit on the statistics.
  13. And man, pulling Plaweck for a pinchie after he tagged Judge out in the face is a kick in the nuts. Hey, Boston, I'm trying to LIKE you!

But also a big difference between getting two innings out of your guy vs five-1/3, and particularly so when Mr. Two-plus is the highest paid in the game. Agreed. Just a comment about the environment. No doubt that Booney blinked way first, and way most.
  16. Robinson was also the general manager of the Braves in the seventies, jumping to the Rangers in 1977. I guess he got the honor of trading Lenny Randle to the Mets. He wasn't the last pre-integration player, was he?
  17. Kevin Plawecki with the big play!!

  19. That was my thought What's the point of dropping all that coin on Cole?
  20. =MFS62 post_id=79328 time=1633476299 user_id=60]At some point her abilities will get her through the glass ceiling, so why shouldn't it be the Mets who allow her to be the first to crack it?
  21. Well, sure, I guess. Even if she's currently employed, a PoBO with the Mets is a higher-profile job than a GM with the Marlins. While I'd disagree with anybody who flaunts a brand of "succeeded wherever they've been," I'd hate her to be hired as a symbol. And I hope she'd be very wary of any employer who wanted to use her as such.
  22. Youse people are not on my hiring committee.
  23. Where are the Mets going to find a president of baseball operations, particularly one who doesn't see the job as an opportunity to wave his (or her?) penis? In the spirit of folks reading the tea leaves of Once Upon a Time in Queens, I think the Mets' next president of baseball operations will be ... Ed Lynch!
  24. My feelings speak less of which candidate we should hire, and more to why we hire the candidate we do. That said, E is lovely and a real asset to the organization.
  25. Interesting call. Espada's a hot commodity. And I get the idea that a lot of organizations see a guy who was born in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean but raised or colleged in the English-speaking mainland United States to be a win-win. Espada (or Schneider, for that manner) would be the Mets quadrupling down — hiring a first-time manager four times in a row. Amazing to think that the next manager will be the fourth since Terry Collins.
