  1. Max Meyer has gone four hitless innings for the Marlins. Teutonic pitchers are mowing 'em down everywhere!
  2. We're in the bottom of the fifth of a game against the Marlins. Max Scherzer has gone the distance (!!) so far, giving up one run on three hits, but that's enough for Miami to lead 1-0.
  3. There's that, although a lot can happen in between Brandon Nimmo saying a lot can happen and something happening. The current roster of batsmen seems pretty set. There's an apparent limit of 13 pitchers (although that's been waived the last two years). But based on that implied number of 13 batters, that leaves two catchers: McCann Nido ... six infielders ... Alonso Canó Davis Escobar Guillorme Lindor ... and five outfielders ... Cahna Marte McNeil Nimmo Smitty Now, you can switch McNeil with Davis (and probably should) as to which unit you imagine him a part of, but the thing is that most of those guys are locks. If you bring in Conforto or somebody else without moving somebody out, the odd man out is most likely Guillorme, and that would leave Escobar as the only shortstop backup. It certainly could be done (as the DH means, among other things, it's easier to go only two-deep at a position) but it's a tight squeeze.
  4. Yeah, all those ifs don't necessarily have to be there. I'm guessing the baseline plan right now is that Cahna is #4, taking at-bats against lefties from Smitty and Nimmo, depending on how each is hitting.
  5. Cahna could well be the fourth depending on how other things shake out. If ... McNeil retains his hold on second, and ... ... if Escobar is demonstrably a full-timer at third, and ... ... if Canó has enough left to be the regular DH, and ... ... Smitty continues his impressive spring, ... ... then Smitty is your leftfielder and Cahna is #4. That's a lot of ifs that have to fall into place, but there certainly is something of an unsettled situation. They might keep an eye on it for a few days and jump on Conforto later if he's available. Of course, most every team is probably one injury away from jumping all over Conforty.
  6. It was a damn good game with GKR, too. Keith sometimes gets a little aphasia-stuck on a word here and there, but Ron and Gary seem afraid to help him out, perhaps partially out of respect and partially out of not wanting to interrupt his thoughts.
  7. Double play, and we're dunn. Plum disappointing is what that is.
  8. Down two in the ninth with the tying runs on base and one out. Here comes Plummer!
  9. Lars Nootbar putting on a clinic.
  10. And despite a world of space on the left side, Lee pulls it into the still-happening shift on the right, and we go to the ninth.
  11. Two out in the eighth and the tying run on second for Khalil Lee.
  12. We got Brett Baty in the game at third and coming to the plate next inning.
  13. So, hey! They're still shifting.
  14. I remember him winning some sort of contest.
  15. Always nice to see the Hunter back, even though it's usually for a sad reason. Short had a long career but not a lot of it in the bigs. He had 73 appearances over 10 years, and nearly half of those were with the 1968 Mets, but he's an International League Hall-of-Famer.
  16. Interesting to see the first game with the starters and the Mets are sticking with them through five.
  17. Nice report by Lindsay coming to us from the Sadecki Spot at Miller Huggins Field.
  18. I'm not sure I'd ever seen a 6-4-5 double-play. Sweet.
  19. Janky just made a big sweet catch.
  20. I think the reason Goldschmidt annoys me is that, when other teams aren't sure which Mountain Time hitters will translate their productivity to another ballpark, the Cards always seem to pick the right ones.
  21. You play fifteen games, and what do you get? A shortened spring training, with wannabe Mets Dave Peterson is pitching, but Marte can't go! He told Chicklo his oblique is too so'!
  22. Your final was 6-2. Jake Mangum was all over the place, on the plus and minus. He went 1-3, but struck out the two times he made out, and got caught stealing the third time. But he also started in center over Khalil Lee and showed why by recording two outfield assists, one on a relay by Guillorme. Smitty had a homer and a triple in his first two trips.
  23. Homers from Guillorme (leadoff), Smitty, and Plummer in the first inning and the Mets lead 4-0!!! It's going to be like this all year!!!!
  24. Last year was Bazooka's first poor year in a hundred years of pitching. And even then, he came back strong after a trade to Seattle. Minnesota will be his eighth big league home.
