  2. Well, that's mere speculation. He was gone before spring training began in 1984, so he never got a chance to block anybody.
  3. Do you mean to suggest that Tom Seaver was so good in 1981 that the Mets are in a lesser draft position in 1982 and likely don't get Dwight Gooden?
  4. Checking out the account, he seems like an awful competitive dad, whose life seems to revolve around his kids' athletics. Doesn't necessarily make him an asshole, but posting shots of my 11-year-old with blood all over his uniform top and pants wouldn't be an intuitive move for me.
  5. I applaud the Peterchoice. Yesterday, by the way, was the fifth anniversary of the Mets making him their top pick out of the University of Oregon.
  6. My 11yr old son Cullen just got a 70mph fastball to the face yesterday and would love some words of encouragement ... "Listen, kid — bones heal, chicks dig scars, pain is temporary, glory is forever."
  7. We not only have an Mets all-time offensive record about to fall, we indeed have three guys jostling to be the first to break it. In fact, considering that the guy who holds the record is a (so-far) lifetime Met out with an injury this year, it wouldn't be inaccurate to label the Cookie Club batch of Mets hitters "Generation Hit Batsman." 8. Yeah, this team has lost $60 million worth of pitching at the top of the rotation and the train has kept rolling. I feel like they still have weapons they have yet to deploy.
  9. Atlanta beating up on the Nats, 9-4 in the eighth. Phils and Marlins slugging it out, 8-8 in the seventh.
  10. Bassitt only faced two over the minimum.
  11. Good night for umpie, allowing Bassitt to work the corners.
  12. This sidewinder Kelley is DOOMED as soon as the Mets turn the lineup over.
  13. Not to get ahead of myself, but Bassitt starts the eighth in my head.
  14. Yellich was an MVP in his first year as a Brewer, and the runner up in his second year. But this is his third straight season looking like Johnny Average. I know he had a bout of COVID in 2021. Maybe that possibly wasn't his first go-around.
  15. Back side runner can also stay put, getting a short head start with the pitch when the firstbaseman abandons the bag, hold after about 20 feet, and then break on the throw to third.
  16. I saw a similar article a few months ago. It's good to see grace coming from both sides. My takeaway from the Jefferies saga was to not just give a rookie a full-time job. If they found him work at second (against lefties), and at third (against righties), and waxed and waned his playing time as appropriate, it could have taken the target off his back from the outside, and the monkey off from the inside. You hit enough, the opportunities will be there. Ask Luis Guillorme.
  17. The Q should totally be outlined in yella. Doing the digits outlined in the proper color for the corresponding train would be fun, if somewhat less uniform. Of course, there is no 0 train.
  18. I would guess that he gets a mid-season promotion, perhaps after the All-Star Break. Since, like, 1990, only two catchers have stuck after debuting before their 21st birthday, I think. More have failed. It's just hard to establish starting catchers at any age. Easier to come up as a backup, and learn to hit while somebody else plays the heavy. My first thought when it comes to catchers coming up at 20 is John Gibbons. Doesn't mean it can't be done, of course.
  19. That he is. Here's your Flushing neighbor Jaylen Palmer celebrating his go-ahead grand slammification. [fimg=600]https://img.mlbstatic.com/milb-images/image/private/t_2x1/t_w1536/milb/vzg0gfxdfbkrj1umuarw.jpg[/fimg] You will see this man exact big league damage some day. Write that name down.
  20. The initial X on Nick's Xavier uniform is also pretty good at spelling your doom. [fimg=700]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E2VTxMkVkAEzsBI.jpg[/fimg] Only X school in the NCAA, any division. There's another Xavier University (Louisiana) and a Saint Xavier Univiersity (Illinois) in the NAIA.
  21. Topps did/does a bit of that with the "Topps Total" set, which did a nice job of catching everyone. The 2019 Topps Total set, for example, has the only Mets cards of Adeiny Hechavarria and Rajai Davis, and 2020 has Walker Lockett and Brad Brach. So if Francisco Lindor was on the roster for 180 days and Trevor May for 20 days, by the end of the season, their Topps Total cards would be in circulation at a 9:1 ratio?
  22. And as boyish as his psychotic face looks in that photo, he's a man and a half, standing 6'5" 235, and coming at you in a muscular tornado of long arms and legs. [fimg=650]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FTTrbKuWYAkDdoC?format=jpg&name=large[/fimg]
