1. =kcmets post_id=96887 time=1655839838 user_id=53]Not that I was always a saint there too.
2. You were great. Sainthood, though, is elusive. We can't all be Thirteen, or GregoryJGerwitz, or that guy who was a college professor in Georgia who would go to the games at Turner Field with his stepdaughters, and folks would start to give him shit for his Mets colors, but then they'd back down because the girls would argue back. He was great too, even if I can't remember his screen name. Cookie Mom stopped liking me, like, a decade ago, and I'm sorry for whatever I did, but she'll always have my thanks for fronting the munny for the MoFo picnic. That may not make a person a saint on its own, but that's a helluva start.
3. Gary is one of several Members of The Burnitz League — Met outfielders we had both before and after they were good, although he was never that good for very long, only shining in perhaps two or three seasons. His outfielding and switch-hitting distinguished him from his father, but his father was much more consistent year-to-year with the bat. His one All-Star/near Gold Glove season got him a big old contract from the Angels, and then he immediately declined both offensively and defensively, because by some cosmic law, things break that way for the Angels. In fairness though, his decline was probably pretty predictable, at least offensively. The Mets got him in a contract dump, the Angels sending a wheelbarrow of cash along with him in exchange for swingman/not-a-Broadway-star Brian Stokes, who quickly pitched his way into oblivion. He was one of two recidivists — along with Mike Jacobs — in the 2010 Opening Day lineup, when the original plans didn't work out. The 2010 Mets were starting to taste the austerity of 2011, so in truth, the original plans didn't go very deep, but it was Angel Pagan he was subbing for to start the season. He did quite well, at least on Opening Day, garnering a single, a double, and a walk, because Mets simply tend to do well on Opening Day, by some other, more lovely, cosmic law. But he immediately (like, literally from Game 2 on) slumped into the fading player he seemed to be when he was dumped, and though he might have had some reserve utility when Pagan returned, you didn't get the idea his heart was in it, and his mid-season release was a surprise to none, except insomuch as Mike Jacobs lasted a month longer and they received cash for his contract.
4. Anybuds want to offer an Astroreport in the macro or micro, please have at it.
5. Yeah, I advocated in the wrong-assed thread. Please allow me to move.
6. Vote in this one! Support my advocacy for Adonis Medina! Sent in to pitch with the tying run on second and Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Trea Turner due to bat, he ended up having to get something like four outs after catcher's interference undid his efforts against Turner, and he still ended the game without that runner scoring! Ended the game by striking out The Fresh Prince with the tying run on third and the winning (losing) run on second!
7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Don't the Blue Jays play in Canada? Last I heard. More importantly, they represent Canadian people.
8. The season has a sunset date, though, so merely winning when you're in first place means gaining ground, no matter what the other teams do.
9. Hmmm ... perhaps MLB and New Era can read the room better than I do.
10. As much as I reject the cartel-ized standardization of uniform statements being made across the board for all teams, watering down what any one team stands for, the Toronto Blue Jays hat recently launched as part of the 2022 July 4th weekend collection has to be some sort of new low in ridiculousment. There's no way these are actually going to make it onto the field, is there?
11. Brewers beating the Cardinals 2-0 in the eighth, sole possession of first place on the line. Braves scratch out a walkoff 2-1 win over the visiting Gigantes, keeping pace 5 1/2 games behind the Mets. Phils and Nats idle. Damn Yankees win again.
12. Your current Mets squad on a near-record pace for team shutouts, despite having none of the complete-game variety. 13. =MFS62 post_id=96813 time=1655764501 user_id=60] I saw the announcement that they were going to bring him to New York yesterday. The question still stands, why would they have both join the team if they were only going to activate one? Later
14. They didn't bring Palka up a day before Dom. They summoned him on the same day they activated Smith.
15. Coming off a 5-and-2 homiestand, the Mets head to Houston to pay tribute to Keith Hernandez' favorite record and the band that made the town great. Trevor Williams attacks for the Mets. José Urquidy defends for the Astros, so beard care may come into play. Houston, at 41-25, leads the AL West by a healthy 9 1/2 games, but have lost five of their last 10. They got to enjoy a non-travel day off today after beating the White Sox at Minute Maid yestereve.
16. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=96796 time=1655756999 user_id=119] People in Detroit are not happy with Baez, for sure.
17. Strangely only nine games today and the one at Citi is the only one in the daylight.
18. David Peterson currently rocking an incomparable 3-1 / 3.18 line.
19. Not so fun to watch the mopup guy all around the plate.
20. Man, an MVP award to whoever positions Miami's infielders.
21. Let's call up Daniel Palka!
22. But he's running the bases! Maybe he just got his flesh pinched. Painful but no breaks.
23. J.D. is not looking good.
24. Tight hammy for McNeil. Let's call up Vientos!
25. Yeah, I can dislike that trade — I dislike 'em all — but so far, the Mets are the only team to make any bank on it.
