  1. I like that the best evidence of the card you can find is so poorly cut. Maybe clarifying ghost Mets who made it to the 25-man roster but not the field, and/or guys who made the 40- but not the 25 (those are big-league contracts) can be a future UMDB project. After Spanish-language broadcasters!!
  2. He'll pitch.
  3. I'd certainly agree with you on several of those. Brewster's Millions, huh?
  4. Hopefully things went well for Wayne Kirby.

  6. Thinking that maybe Juan Soto doesn't make it home from the break.

Discovered by accident in Tijuana when Blue Jays superscout Dean Decillis was there to scout a completely different catcher whose name is lost to history. He wasn't impressed at all, and noticed that Kirk was better in every aspect, but he had to call ahead to the Jays and tell them that they were going to think he's crazy when Kirk showed up at camp. But Decillis had been right about Marcus Stroman so the organization trusted him and signed the load, who proceeded to zip through the minors in 165 games — barely more than single big league season. https://www.sportsnet.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Big-Read-Alejandro-Kirk-Throw.jpg> Sometimes when you cross a Mexican with a Scot, something wonderful happens.

I thought for sure he was heading to Kansas City to fill in for one of their striking outfielders. Little new here about the draftees you haven't learned in other threads, except for thumbnail photos. Gonzaga is a terrific DC school with a downtown campus that's probably worth about a billion dollars, but Morabito looks a little boneheaded in not realizing the whole turn-your-eyeblack-into-KISS-makeup thing is played out. I think the Mets drafted him higher than his talent warranted, hoping to go under slot with him so they go high on some of the others. He may be a good candidate for passing on his offer and going to college. Tune back in tomorrow for some red hot action from Days 2 and 3 of the draft!! Also, two new Caribbean pitchers come on board!! See you then!!!
  9. It's fun how you always get the best-case projections. You never get, "Rousseau is getting a lot of attention from scouts, and the name that keeps popping up when they watch him is Brad Emaus."
  10. I like how both secondbasemen are 2020 Mets.

  12. I look forward to him joining Vida Blue and Kevin Brown on the All-Color Team.
  13. Murphy, like Craig Biggio and Carlos Delgado and Gil Hodges, is a perfect example of a guy they moved shortly after he reached the bigs. It's often a gun-to-the-head decision. We have a plus hitter. Do we try to get more day-to-day value out of him by putting him at catcher, or do we try to get more games, more health, and a longer run out of them by moving them after they reach the bigs? Gary Carter, Yogi Berra, and Johnny Bench came very close to ending up in the outfield (or the infield, in Bench's case) when they reached the bigs. Their teams were tempted to get more out of their obviously capable bats by keeping them healthier and in the lineup at a safer situation, but in their cases, saw extra value in the plus defense (or in Bench's case, the plus-plus-plus defense) they also brought to the table. Murphy was a poor catcher and a poor thrower. He was a poor firstbaseman when they moved him there. That he was Golden Glove centerfielder waiting to happen is pretty incredible, and I hope whoever came up with that idea for the Braves got a bonus.

This is her back in April. https://ca-times.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/18c02bb/2147483647/strip/true/crop/3936x2624+0+0/resize/840x560!/format/webp/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcalifornia-times-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2F31%2F10%2F8b55b10b46c3b34553afb334e179%2Fjackie-robinson-day-reds-dodgers-baseball-86226.jpg>

  16. That was my guess from seeing the leftfielding references. We'll find out soon enough, I guess — although though history, a lot of teams don't make the choice about whether to keep a hitting catcher catching until (or even after) he's reached the big leagues. A leftfielder who can also catch on occasion is certainly a coolish thing to have.
  17. Two caveats about Parada: (1) This is the second straight year that the Mets grabbed somebody who was supposed to go several picks higher that had prognosticators (and possibly the Mets) surprised he was still on the board. That's probably nothing, but last year's pick worked out the way it worked out. (2) I need to find out if this is intentional or an error, but some sites list Parada as a leftfielder, despite catching exclusively in his two years at Georgia Tech and his brief summer in the Cape Cod League.
  18. Yeah, I figured an arm would go and they would never speak of it again. How sad to find out it happened, and if I had ever known of it, I had forgotten, as they never spoke of it again.
  19. "And in Round 12, the Mets select .... Ice Cannon!" "Oh, the crowd, loves this choice Donald! Listen to the pandemonium!"
  20. =Fman99 post_id=100241 time=1658232756 user_id=86] I thought the movie was terrible. I can very quickly name a dozen baseball movies that were more entertaining to me.
  21. I think it'd be more fun to have an array of skill competitions. Outfield arms. Race around the bases. 100 Grounders. Etc. MLB Field Day But this is the only one where the risk is deemed worth the reward.
  22. I just want to point out that, as unimpeachable a name as that is, the Mets also selected "Blade Tidwell" in the second round. I just hope he was scouted by Razor Shines, and is represented by Bean Stringfellow.
  23. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=100240 time=1658231798 user_id=68]It defies every known principle of science and physics.
  24. Here's hoping that this is a monkey off of Alonso's back.
  25. Sounds like Methead has himself an adoptee.
