Let's make them sorry they went to the pen.

Sometimes, when they say "Blankenhorn," it sounds like they are trying to cover up a profanity in his name.

The day that the Mets decide that Smith isn't hitting enough to validate keeping him as Pete's glove caddy, in part because Pete's glove is good enough ... Pete's glove suddenly isn't good enough.

I'm not even sure Mazeika got the force out at the plate on that failed DP.

I think the reason Mazeika didn't make that catch is that his shinguard snagged on the warning track dirt. That could be a bad recipe.

I think James Hoye is texting behind home plate.

Max Scherzer > Bob Gibson.

A good day for bunting against the shift, gents.

Wore his middle-name with pride.

I think it's more typically 13- and 14-year olds.

A cruel irony to see Smith replaced by a guy shaped like the guy everybody was afraid Smitty was growing into. Smith instead gets into decent shape and they bring in his chunky white twin to try to take his gig away.

This catches us up on the last 10 picks in the draft for the Mets. None have been reportedly signed yet, but we have a team following each athlete, ready to be first with any news. Slater in the new Saved by the Bell reboot and Jimmy Loper wants to be called Starlord. Connor Brandon has his Win a Dream Date with Connor! pose, but nobody has told him or his school how awful those foam-fronted-panel hats look. Jackson Lovich, from my brief research also has some skillz on the hardwood with some sizzling dunk highlights, and he likes a little weed if you want to draw conclusions from his photo here. I haven't yet established that he's not Lene Lovich's son, so I'm assuming he is until proven otherwise, and his nickname shall henceforth be "Lucky Number." Eli Akenany may be a college draftee, but he looks about 14. The shot above is the oldest-looking one I can find. The real takeaway is, if you can't give your kid an action hero name like "Blade" or something, at least give him a last-name-y first name. How else is he gonna get drafted?

Jacob Reimer is a big kid for a secondbaseman but his face is still boyish enough for a LIFE cereal commercial or maybe an ET sequel. Chase Estep pairs his villainous smeared eyeblack with Batman cowl that he defiantly leaves doffed for the world to see his identity, but that's not the real interesting part of his picture. The funny thing is that Young had hit the scene twenty years earlier making his mark with exactly the reputation that the column's title suggested. A lot of things flip-flopped between the fifties and the eighties. I like that Jesse Orosco made his debut as a LOOGy in the most literal sense, decades before he would pioneer the role that led to the coining of the term.

The Mets' 15th-round draft pick took them back to HS after seven straight college selections. But this one, Jackson Jaha, thirdbaseman out of Clackamas HS in Oregon, may have some incentive to go right into the pro game, being the son of 10-year MLB firstbaseman John Jaha. Dad had seasons of 34 and 35 homers in there, with 118 and 111 RBI in there. Yeah, he was pretty much a platoon guy in most of his other years, but a little talent in the family is always nice. Clackamas sounds like an old-timey Christian feast day, but it's an Oregon County named after the Clackamas Native American people, so that's cool. Also cool: Jackson was drafted on his 19th birthday. The 10th-rounder was Duke pitcher Jimmy Loper, which briefly shook me, with my eyes initially reading his name as "Looper." I knew Braden had at least one son from back in the day, but then I refocused and counted only one O. Jimmy is not a Braden relative at all!! Braden's actual son, Landen Loper, is a 6'4" https://miamiredhawks.com/images/2022/2/17/Landon_Looper_Headshot.JPG?width=300freshman at Miami of Ohio, who saw no action in his first season despite his impressive height, neck, and pedigree. https://miamiredhawks.com/images/2022/2/17/Landon_Looper_Headshot.JPG?width=300> I hope Landen gets back on the field and follows his father into the big leagues. That way, we'll be able to say that there's still an active player who played at Shea. https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/braden-looper-son-during-1800flowerscom-and-the-new-york-mets-team-up-picture-id121428246?s=2048x2048> Was Armitron's tagline really "Armitron Armitron Armitron"?

Well, I'm working for free here, Ceets. Hey, look! kcmets has 6666 posts!

I assume because (a) the training deadline approaches, ( the Mets are in contention, © they currently have the top prospect in baseball, and (d) Matt needs clicks.

I don't know how much more valuable the word of Matthew Cerrone is, compared with subway gossip, but ...

I just think that, like Syndergaard 2021, he's got to at least put the merchandise on display for a couple of innings in order to open up the floor for bidding. I'm certainly hopeful for more than that.

Wynn Hawkins was 12-13 / 4.17 in parts of three seasons for Cleveland. Sounds like there's reason to hope your career might continue on. But can you imagine how much of a reality check it must be to find out the 1963 Mets have no use for you?
