  1. On my lineup card, Marte has long ago been dropped down to sixth in the order. For what it's worth, he's raking out of that spot.
  2. Bezez loaded here in the fifth. That walk is brought to me by Total Ortho Express, where you can just walk in!
  3. I'm really embarrassed about my basement filled wall-to-wall with Peerless Boilers.
  4. Mets be scoreless. Nats be battin'.
  5. Presumably into perpetuity, we'll now be able to identify any relevant photos as definitively coming from April 2023.

I'm not sure I would call it “giving” a guy a contract versus negotiating one. I say good for the player for utilizing his leverage and negotiating for that flexibility. It's great for the player, and it's well within his rights, but I root for the Mets to make moves that help them most, and advocate for acquisition principles that help them the most. Believe me, I want players to have all the leverage they deserve.
  7. Perhaps, but if they are, at least the contracts sunset in a year or two, and you try again with somebody else. But yeah, it's a different story to give a guy a contract that's for two or three years if he's good, six or seven if he isn't.
  8. Or, from the other side of the agreement, all risk and no reward. It helps explain why the Mets have topped their rotation with two pitchers who are high performing but near the end of their viability, and therefore willing to take shorter-term deals but with the years guaranteed for both sides.
  9. After studying the Mets' boxscore in the late seventies, I'd move on to the Reds' box (to see if Seaver pitched, and if so, how well), then to the Twins' box (to look for Koosman), and finally to the Rangers' box (to check on Matlack). But I don't know if it's more that deGrom wasn't traded, but signed elsewhere, or that I'm not 11, but I don't feel and emotional stake in his success. At least not theseadays.
  10. Anybody want to show off how much you know about the 2023 Nationals?
  11. Yeah, that would be a dick of a request to ask Hunter to go away for two weeks again, after he just got relaunched.
  12. The Rays have been so torrid that it's easy to miss that the Orioles have the second-best record in the division, and third-best in all of baseball. The American League East is looking positively upside-down. Of course, under the current format, I suspect they'll all make the post-season anyhow.
  13. The super-big scoreboard hopefully takes a moment to replay super-big moments by super-big Dom Smith.
  14. I like local colloquial versions. "I swear on my mother's eyes!" "I swear on my left nut!" "I swear on a stack o' Bibles!"
  15. More likely it means that you are willing to allow them killed if you are found to be lying. It's supposed to come across as a bold statement, but on reflection, it tends to come up short on it's intent for three reasons: The universe tends not to collect if you are found to be lying. Other humans also tend to spare your loved ones' lives. It's just not worth it. I'd rather Max Scherzer give me a cool thousand dollars if I can establish that he's lying. That's worth more to me than the right to murder his children. Why would that appeal to me? While our children's lives are precious to most anybody, they are far more precious to the children themselves. If you're going to put skin in the game, it's far more meaningful to me if put your own. But whatever.
  16. Ashie's on something of a roll. I reflect upon Scherzer's "sweat and rosin" quote above. What he isn't saying is whether he's using MLB's certified rosin. Or MLB's certified sweat, for that matter.
  17. Wait ... they did sweep the A's. I think you are referring to the Dodgers series.
  18. Shmelb. Won 7 of 10 on the West Coast, but come home on a shmelb.
  19. Gosh, Pham is pretty popular here in San Francisco.
  20. Radio Broadcasting Mets-Giants Game: "And the go-ahead run is scoring position ... for Michael Conforto." Me: "YAY!! I mean ... BOOOO!!!"
  21. It's cool to face twins consecutively in the same game. Taylor and Tyler are not only twins, and not even merely identical Twins. They belong to the extra-rare category of mirror-image identical twins. Plus, beyond the novelty, we came out on top, with Álvarez homering off the really good one. The only thing that would have made it cooler was if it happened while we were playing The Twins.
  22. Brigham is looking like somebody who wants to be a late-inning option.
  23. Álvarez just needed somebody unhittable to unload upon.
  24. The Rays have been mostly good for a while, now, so I should be used to it, but 13-0 at home is something. I have trouble associating Tropicana Field with "home field advantage."
  25. It takes a team to win. Sometimes that includes former team members.
