  1. =Gwreck post_id=128748 time=1686719281 user_id=56] Sounds like they can't do that. Will Sammon of the Athletic reported that Smith's spot counts as one of the maximum 13 pitchers that can be on the active roster.

We're as excited as any to see Quintana's debut, but considering it'll be a month of Sundays before they let him throw so much as 90 pitches, any hope we might have for him to make an impact should probably be pushed back beyond the All-Star Break. Matt Minnick appeared in parts of five seasons for the Division II Mercyhurst Lakers, so he's already 27, but he has a history of making the most of his opportunities. See you in Binghamton, young Matt.
  3. I question why Pham batted against a righty in the ninth with a lefty on the bench in Vogelbach. I question why he batted despite a lefty on the bench and him already being in the midst of a lousy game, coming to the plate oh-for-four with two strikeouts — soon to be oh-for-five with three strikeouts. I question why Escobar ran for Álvarez. Was there that great a speed opportunity in the situation? Was the speed edge there that great, since we were burning two guys to replace one, thereby not having two lefties on the bench in the ninth, and not having Álvarez in the lineup at all? I can't call any of these decisions unjustifiable, but I have these questions.
  4. A stinky loss tonight is also a costly one. The Smith ejection comes with an automatic 10-game suspension. Also lost with Smith will be Smith's roster slot, as the Mets will be unable to replace him on the team for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me. Considering how important bloaty bullpens are to the latter-day team, and considering how much work they just got after a 3 1/3-inning start by Max Scherzer, it's certainly possible or even likely that this means another demotion for Guillorme to squeeze another arm onto the team. Or possibly a demotion for Vientos. Or possibly a DFA for Vogelbach.
  5. Álvarez up in a bunting situation and ... he won't be bunting.
  6. Ron's "Take him out if his spin rate is spiking" theory sounds like a terrible idea.
  7. I missed this Smithjection. Damn, Mets.

They have 18 come-from-behind wins to date, with the https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202305190.shtmlbiggest comeback being from five runs down.

  10. McKinney is a real hustler.
  11. Well, we can go get Dominic Leone a win right here.
  12. Strange to see R.A. hanging out in the ballpark wearing his old jersey.
  13. Yankees not cooperating with Operation Blowout.
  14. Three walks. Two hit-batsmen. Two balks. He needs a couple of wild pitches to complete the cyle.
  15. Brett Baty has trimmed off some of the shag coming out of the back of his helmet.
  16. Billy McKinney is wearing the wrong shirt. Wrong shirt!
  17. The Mets could have scored five runs that first inning. Severino is fooling nobody.
  18. "And he (Giancarlo Stanton) has hit more homeruns at Citi Field than any other opposing player. Why is that, Todd?" "Because he's a big, strong man with a bat in his hand." SNY, bringing that high-end baseball analysis.
  19. Tommy Hunter clears waivers and is unconditionally released.
  20. Escobar has been getting his starts. Vogelbach not so much.
  21. Luis Severino attacks, Max Scherzer counters, and hopefully the Tuesday Night Mets Club will be witnesses to the drama. MLB.tv has been telling me for three weeks that this series was all about Aaron Judge vs. Pete Alonso. Well, not so much.
  22. “Slowly, he’s opening everybody’s eyes as one of the better outfield prospects in our organization.” — Mets Farm Director Kevin Howard “We had a great talk in spring training about his injury history. When he was healthy enough to play in the past, he did a lot of things right. He didn’t chase, he didn’t swing and miss in the zone. A lot of the metrics that you look at you go man, he’s got a lot of things going. Really work on the approach. Then, just understanding how good he can be. I think he’s done a good job of building as he has gone up.” — Rumble Ponies Hitting Coach Darin Everson “He’s had an incredibly hot start, but it’s not just the hot start. His at-bats look more controlled. He’s just a really tough, pesky out. He’s got a knack for the barrel, and he doesn’t swing and miss, which is typically the trait that you see out of guys that do get up to the big leagues and have success.” — Also Mets Farm Director Kevin Howard “He’s great on defense. He’s great on the bases. He’s just a really good player that doesn’t start to stand out until you start watching him play every day. So he’s been the biggest pleasant surprise at the upper levels.” — That again is Kevin Howard, speaking of me I blasted this homer the other day, which I stood and watched to see if I could hit some poor kid in a pool. 23. Stanford advances to Omaha on a walkoff can of corn that somehow was lost in the lights by two different outfielders. If nothing else, two guys losing the ball keeps one guy from having to bear all the weight.
