1. His voice sounds like he's been screaming all night.
2. If this game breaks the other way, Mendoza would have some answering to do for burning the bench and having an injured Nimmo up with the game on the line. But how about that?

4. But don't sacrifice with the corners closing. Hit it down their throats.
5. Frayed Knot wrote: Riley leaves the game early so we use that break to award his replacement 1st base twice. His .063-hitting replacement.
6. There's nothing quite like a guy getting picked off and pointing to the dugout calling on his manager to challenge on his behalf, and his manager is all, "No, youse out."
7. Frayed Knot wrote: A while back I posed a question as to which Marlin OF cast-off would turn out to have the better rest of his career, Yelich or Giancarlo Stanton The answer is now becoming clear, it's Marcel Ozuna. OK that's the short term answer right now but it is becoming a three man race particularly as the other two are far removed from their peaks. Everything about Ozuna just screams to me that he's a cheater.
8. DJ's the man we love the most.
9. Could have used one or two yesterday.
10. Leadoff singles in each of the first two innings, but so far unable to advance either.
11. When there are two outs and the bases loaded in the first, I don't think I need a constant update in the guy's pitch count. If he's up to 40 after a batter reaches base, sure, spring it on me while we wait for the next guy to come up, but pitch counts have become so ubiquitous that the automatic story for first half of a game seemingly has to be the starting pitcher deathwatch, even as a very-high-leverage at-bat is coming to its conclusion.

13. The sore ribcage benches Nimmo and DJ Stewart is your new leadoff hitter. 14. As you wish.
15. I don't think so, other than more fresh arms are available. Yeah, there's more guys throwing 98 MPH, but I think the 12th guy on the staff is also pitching more key innings for every team. Certainly, position players pitching has reached enough of a crescendo that the league has had to put in rules to tamp down on it. I hate to go back to 2000, but the way to combat it is to swing less.
16. Nothing beats Mother's Day at the ballpark! I mean, probably not, but ... I don't really know, not being a mother and all. Maybe mothers hate coming out to the ballpark after church and brunch. But whether the game is joyous or torment to your typical mum, ESPN cares not, so our Sunday afternoon game is going to be played seven hours after noon. Twenty-four-year-old righty Bryce Elder goes for the Braves, having not yet found the form that made him effective last season. Luiss Severinno goes for the Mets, coming off a remarkable eight innings of one-hit ball against the Cubs.

18. They're winless in that nasty new black top also. Probably not a correlation, though.
19. A lot of slow-or-or-slowish-but-nonetheless-versatile Met infielders qualify — Justin Turner, Eric Campbell, Tim Teufel, John Valentin, Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe, Kevin Mitchell ... . And that's just sniffing around the Mets part of my brain. And yet 4% went for José Oquendo. Remarkable.
20. Gosh that's getting ahead of things, no?
21. I'm surprised that 4% chose José Oquendo as their shortstop/firstbaseman. I went with Joe McEwing. I would imagine that to be a less rare selection (recency bias) but I don't know. OE: Super Joe got 1%.
22. Congratulations to Yohan Ramirez for becoming 2024's second addition to the membership of Club McMichael!
