Wow, he probably deserves his own thread. I think he was big behind the Mazzilli-Darling/Terrell trade. If that wans't a big builder in our championship, he helped us from the other side with the Ojeda-Schiraldi/Gardner trade. A baseball fixture for a long, long time. Wrote the worst book blurb ever.
Spike Lee, on Twitter: I grew up a Mets fan and migrated to the interlocking N and Y. Go migrate off a cliff, pal. Some wouldn't call that growing up, Spike.
Also popping to mind is The Main Event (1979), Tough Enough (1983), and Homeboy (1988). Requiem for a Heavyweight is a tough thing to watch, because I'm so used to Jackie Gleason having a great big heart underneath all his assholish bluster, you keep looking for it in this movie too, only to find out that he's barely got any humanity at all.
Waddayagonnado. They look less deplorable in a stirrup, and have a fun variation with the insignia. And the solid orange insignia with no shadows on black is a rarity in Metville, perhaps because that's a straight-shot old Giants logo. Their black hats are wrong not just because they're black, but because they put that abominable blue-with-orange-shadow insignia in it, that just murders you with the black-and-royal clashing. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I would prefer all players wear stirrups than just those who choose to. It's a uniform! But I also wonder if Carrasco would rock that look if everyone else did. And I'm pretty sure the third-base ump agrees.
I'll go a little off-book and go Texas in June and San Diego in August. I owe you at least one Washington (can't let bfmc do all the heavy lifting there), so I'll take the first one, April 8-10.
Josh Stinson is six months and 26 days older. Reese Havens is one years, 11 months, and 20 days older. Dillon Gee is two years, five months, and 12 days older. Lucas Duda is two years, eight months, and seven days older.
On Martinez: A spring breifer than expected (by me, anyhow), but productive: .364 / .481 / .591 // 1.072 in 27 PAs. Nice homer in the spring opener: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110226&content_id=16741390&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym

I gave it 2.5. If I could edit that vote. I'd probably drop a half a star due to ghastly geriatric sex jokes. Who does the polling that produces the data that says America can't get enough geriatric sex humor?
Mike Hampton packs it in after a decade wandering in the desert, searching for his career, and occasionally depositing obscenely huge checks into his bank account.
Not that it matters much but the idea had been to distinguish the stories of players still active (in this thread) from those in retirement (in this thread here).
It'd be nice of the Yankees to hoist the Mets' trophy for them. Their arms might be tired by then. I may be wrong, but I think I'm simultaneously more excited and less optimistic than usual this pre-season.
Mis-estimating the market for high-end seats and other prices down the line is certainly worthy to consider as a factor in the team's profitability --- moreso, I'm certain, than the size of the park. I think the main factor is that they invested a lot of money in the team and have still failed to win very much. I'm not going to pretend to be schooled in marketing, but clearly if that changes, demand changes, and the whole dynamic of the market changes.
