  1. "My interests off the field of baseball consist of a variety of activities. I enjoy spending time with my family as much as possible. Being around those who love and support me no matter what happens is always a blessing in my opinion. I enjoy watching movies, listening to music of all varieties, eating at new restaurants, playing video games with my friends, and playing ping-pong. I am extremely competitive and thrive on finding activities that are interactive and challenging." If that's not an alien imitating the written expressions of human earthlings, I don't know what.
  2. I like to do that surfer thing with my fingers: And going out for the evening, to me, means decking myself out like Tony Manero: I rock! Way more than that guy in right field. What's his name again?
  3. But you're not playing centerfield, gorgeous, so pipe down and let the real ballplayers tell the story. Say aloha, Dude. I'm Shane Victorino. I patrol Maddoxland for the 3-3 Phils, and have been doing it for over half a decade now. I get to do the leadoff hitting that Jimmy Rollins is being paid for, but whatever. I'm 31 and had my best year last season and still gots my wheels when I needs them (16 trips in 2011). My defense has been falling off, though. "The Flyin' Hawaiian" is a pretty good nickname, but "The Pineapple Express" is stupid and when I hear it, it makes me feel like I'm going to be traded to the Yankees so John Sterling can call me that over and over. Like Rollins, I also have a big-league cousin, Cincinnati pitcher Kanekoa Texeira.

The last "Swede" was Swede Larson who had three appearances and one trip to the plate in 1936. Only three men played under that name, but nine others carried it as a less official nickname. Walter Johnson was "The Big Swede" before he was "The Big Train," even though he wasn't a bit Swedish.

Baby-faced guys named "Babe," red-head guys named "Red," and lefthanded guys named "Lefty," etc. [list:2lei2e7a][*:2lei2e7a]The last "Babe" was Babe Birna, finishing up in 1958. [/*:m:2lei2e7a] [*:2lei2e7a]The last "Chief" was Chief Hogsett, finishing up in 1944. (Freddie Garcia and Geronimo Gil are both nicknamed "The Chief.") [/*:m:2lei2e7a] [*:2lei2e7a]The last "Dummy" was Dummy Taylor, finishing up in 1908. (Davey Johnson was nicknamed "Dummy" by his Orioles teammates, because he wasn't.) [/*:m:2lei2e7a] [*:2lei2e7a]The last "Lefty" was Lefty Hayden, who threw 3.67 innings over three games in 1958. (Many have borne the nickname before and since without ever being introduced as such over the PA.) [/*:m:2lei2e7a] [*:2lei2e7a]The last "Moe" was Moe Drabowsky, who played until 1972. [/*:m:2lei2e7a] [*:2lei2e7a]The last "Red" was Red Schoendeist, finishing up in 1963, three days after Red Barrett also played his last game. (Mike Hedlund, who played until 1972, was a "Red" but it was never the name on the front of his baseball card. Other similar quasi-Reds are also out there.) 8. Hi, I'm Carlos Ruiz, pudgy Panamanian catcher for your Philadelphia Phillies. I'm in my seventh season, all with the Phils, so you should kinda know me by now. I'm good for between five and ten homers a year, but I've started red hot (hitting .462 in my first five games) and already have my first homer logged (suck it, Ike Davis), but you can usually count on me for a .750-ish OPS. Decent, by catcher standards. Above average, even. My nickname is Chooch. You might think that has something to do with trains, but that probably is wrong. I'm a highly respected catcher and I caught Roy Halladay's perfect game. Probably a lot like Bob Boone, I think, and we're the only two starting catchers to win championships with the Phils in our 600-year history, so we've got that. Lately I've been moved up to the two-hole. And that's cool, because I don't strike out a lot, but maybe I'll hit into a lot of double plays there. Maybe? Hey there, while you're checking out lumpy catchers, get a load of me. i'm Brian Schneider, and I'll probably be catching Sunday. And yeah, my family has a toxic case of the cutes. And maybe that's why folks still want to keep me around. Seriously, if you can think of why I'm still holding down a job, please give me a call and let me know. Last year, I puked up an OPS of .502 which, frankly, is embarrassing even for me. And that's saying something. I don't care if you're Johnny Bench back there behind the plate, that's not getting it done. And (again) frankly, I'm not Johnny Bench. Cute kid, though, right? When I try to pick a runner off, I throw it down to first, where it's caught by...
  9. Well, it's where we are now, not what I'm rooting for.
  10. Come on. One a' youse mugs must want to call the Philly shots.
  11. Dude, we still qualify for a wild card spot.
  12. Fonzie. Still banging on that door.
  13. Nats win on wild pitch in 10th. Mets fall into second place. EastWLPCTGBNGBL10AwayHomeAwayWashington52.714--5-2W31-04-2=#0000FF]NY Mets42.6670.50.54-2L24-20-0=#BF0000]Philadelphia23.4002.03.52-3W11-11-2=#000080]Atlanta24.3332.55.02-4W20-02-4=#FF4000]Miami24.3332.55.02-4L10-12-3
  14. Yeah, that's wh'mean with "editorial, not advertising."
  15. Underneath your shoulder at the side of your torso, I would guess.
  16. They have more flava than 20-ounce Pepsi or Budweiser bottles would there, I think. But maybe that's a false choice. I guess anything under the "Let's Go Mets" arc should be editorial and not advertising, but it's all so hard to see where the lines should be once you're playing in a corporately named ballpark.
  17. Duda kills me.
  18. So the road look we're going to start seeing... solid grays and blue tops on Sundays?
  19. Out of context, that post makes batmag look like he's an Asian with some twisted racial hangups.
  20. One night with Roger Craig, the world's your oyster! I'd like to thank Mr. Craig for bringing along a taste of 1962 yesterday. Sheesh.
  21. Yeah, I came home through the Camden Yards station through the three game series. Game one: 35% Yankee garb Game two: 55% Yankee garb Game three: 80% Yankee garb The lack of anybody to identify with kills me and it's been that way ever since Ripken. I saw a few Wigginton shirts in the crowd, an old Mora, maybe a Luke Scott. It's all Jeter.
  22. they probably gave him back a report that said, "Territorial rights don't exist. Stop being silly." They've been repressing it ever since.
  23. Santana 5.47 Byrdak 1.59 Murphy 1.58 Rauch 0.95 Davis 0.07
  24. Embarrassing to even win a game like that. Who knows what Vanover was looking at.
