  1. Nobody has to throw Bay a firstbaseman's mitt. And I'm not sure how failure makes him a dope.
  2. The Blue Jays cut Adam Lind loose also. Owed about $12 million.
  3. Josh Lewin getting it done, bringing the Bad News Bears reverence.
  4. The Guy who Authored This Article wrote: June 26, 1963: After all these years, its still WPAs choice for the best one-game performance by a Mets batter when Tim Harkness comes through in the clutch against the Cubs. In a 14-inning marathon, Harkness is 4-for-7, including a perfect 3-for-3 after the ninth. His biggest moment by far comes in the bottom of the 14th. The Mets trail by two runs thanks to an inside-the-park homer by Chicago star's left fielder, but New York loads the bases with two out for Harkness, who promptly hits a walk-off grand slam. His WPA on the day: 1.107. Its by far the greatest of the 259 games in which Harkness ever plays. Not to take anything away from Harkness, but the greatest one-man/one-day freak show was Fonzie's 6-6, right?
  5. Vinny F. Rottino, ends a 20-game hitting streak with Buffalo, comes back angry the next day and hits three homers,

  7. Both by Peter Weir.
  8. So what's the plan? We kinda need tomorrow's game. Try to bunt our way on? What?
  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I don't really even like John Hughes.

  11. Didn't we agree never to speak of the Puerto Rico trip?
  12. Or Mets logo hockey jerseys.
  13. Yeah, we've been giving a lot of rooks and journeymen their first tastes of success recently, it seems.
  14. My wife rents what my wife rents.
  15. Mel Gibson plays the new foreign correspondent assigned to Jakarta during the waning years of the rule of President Sukarno. Linda Hunt wins a pile of awards playing the diminutive photographer who gets him all his best stories and also gets him the girl --- Sigourney Weaver. Lots of shadow puppets.
  16. Harvey fans 11 in six innings and Pascucci hits two homers as Buffalo beats Gwinnett 5-3. Order me up a plate o' dat for the Mets. That's closing in on 300 homers in Pascucci's career: Major Leagues: 3 Affiliated minors: 241 Independent Minors: 3 Japan League: 21* Total: 268 *I think.
  17. I saw Wright screaming in the dugout tonight. He was saying something about if anybody was going to be blamed, it should be him.

  21. Theme dress road trips don't turn out well. That's what I'm l'arning.
  22. This guy is really starting to inch toward the Wheeler/Harvey/Familia/Mejia top-of-our-crop category for me. He was even more untouchable in Brooklyn last year. The next homer he gives up will be his first. Main problem seems to be that he's only listed at 5'11".
  23. Kerry Wood comes in and strikes out the last hitter he faces, and then walks off to a standing ovation --greeted by his son. Daytime game at Wrigley, hosting the White Sox. Hard to write a better ending than that. Woulda been cool to get the save, I guess.
  24. Is that H.E.R.B.I.E.'s chamber on the right?
  25. The first Met who was an ex-Jay: Dyar Miller. Miller might've had a more-extensive career, but he spent most of his 20s buried in the Oriole system behind.. everybody. Maybe bringing ex-Orioles personnel into the Mets braintrust is what precipitated his arrival in Queens. He gave them 42 innings to the tune of a 1.93 ERA. and then they let him walk.
