  1. Maybe Pudge gets a call after all.
  2. We're in mid-May and already have the second clubhouse flu epidemid.
  3. Howie Rose paid tribute to Tim McCarver on today's radio broadcast and as he recounted the groundbreaking work McCarver had done as a Mets broadcaster it broke a brother's heart to think what he has slipped into. My other observation on today's game is that if the team had played a little more cleanly, they'd have gotten 15 runs. It's a blessing that they're coming up with these two out hits, but so often that comes after being unable to make productive contact with runners in scoring position and one or no out. Or after baserunner blunders in the face of what contact they've had.

And Tim's taking that opinion to his grave. 2) The Mets ain't gonna re-sign David Wright: it can't be done given the team's financial mess. (1) Defensible, but probably untrue. (2) Silly.
  5. Baseball lifer Bobby Scales has been placed on the inactive list as he prepares to sign a contract with a (so-far-unnamed) Japanese team. That's a shame for the Mets and the Buffs, as Scales had been tilting the scales to the tune of .339 / .459 / .486 // .945, and it breaks up a devastating infield duo combo with Omar Quintanilla (.283 / .356 / .519 // .875). This might be good news for Jordany Valdespin, perhaps freeing up more infield time for the career infielder. And it might mean another chance for old buddy Brad Emaus.
  6. I hear that Cock Punch Thread is this generation's version of Rock Paper Scissors. Crazy kids.
  7. Eh, 'searly. I disagree with the whole concept of crowning closers. But I understand that it's not gonna look good to measure them early in the season the day after a blown save. One bad inning can explode an ERA and often does. Miiami just got in bed with their closer to the tune of $27-33 million and he just recently got his ERA under 10. The AL East has four of five closers on the DL.
  8. There were two dinners at Tipitina's. Two!

  10. Benitez, also, was a guy.

  12. The no-doubles defense doesn't cut it.

  14. For a movie that presents New Orleans as a sleazy murderous slimepit of corruption, death and the occult, you half get the idea that the New Orleans tourism bureau underwrote the thing, they way they namecheck New Orleans culture left and right. [list:33zhh3nv]"Remy, get your pants on. Angelo's bagman was just found murdered in Storyville." "Ah, not tonight. I've got tickets to see the Neville Brothers." "Just move your ass. You drive slower than a Mardis Gras float." "Wasn't his brother the one we fished out of Lake Pontchartrain?"[/list:u:33zhh3nv]
  15. Looks like Bobby Parnell is our new number-one setup guy.

  17. Good job by Terry catching Guillen without a lefty ready in the pen.
  18. Baxter pinch-hitting. Interesting. Ya think he has the discipline to just give us the meaningful contact to get the go-ahead run home? We also go into the endgame with Rob Johnson as our catcher.
  19. Bases bloated and one out, my friends.
  20. Double by Neiuie. Tying run by Wright. Mets strike late. Munny.
  21. And... let's get to it! Leadoff double by Wright.
  22. Still. Down by one and getting outhit late. We've played our way out of this. Wouldn't want that to be our only model for winning, but it's something.
  23. There's a certain amount of disbelief that you have to suspend for this kind of stuff. Certainly, and they owe me a convincing reason as to why. Any good storyteller has to seduce you into releasing your grip on reality. In the Iron Man films, I could. In the Asgard-character films, not so much. By the way: Loki's helmet was never not funny.
  24. One wonders if they have a chance of signing those guys after all they've invested in Howard, Utley, Rollins, Lee, and Halladay. Pence too, for that matter. Oh, one mustn't think of such things!
