  1. ... the leadoff hitter tonight for your New York Mets.

Correction: 8.47. Marquis never struck out that many (5.2 career K/9), and strikes out fewer now (sub-4 over the last two seasons). Do we have the defense to make his stuff work? (Assuming he keeps it in the park-- he's given up 9 HRs in 7 starts, with five of the turns coming at offensive-depressive Target Field.) I never trust pitchers who don't get some strikeouts. At least 5-per-9 please. But you know, the match may be there. Carrasco makes $1.2 million this season.

Yeah, um, sorry about that. BAD fingers. BAD!

The Twinks designated Jason Marquis --- a pitcher over whom too much Met fan blood has been spilled -- for assignment. I never thought much of him, but neither do I much value letting a guy go for nothing, so perhaps the Mets could look into flipping DJ Carrasco for him, and maybe some cash. He's 2-4 with a [crossout:rf4y1oez]3[/crossout:rf4y1oez]8.47 ERA and is on a one-year, $3.3 million contract, but he had spent his whole career in the National League, and was more or less successful last season, and the Mets have a rotation slot open. If not, I think the Mets should trade DJ Carrasco for DJ Cut Creator or DJ Polo.
  5. Didn't work for me at the time. It might work better now.
  6. I think we need to expand the playoffs, or redefine what winning is.
  7. By all reports, the Mets' management was embarrassed in hosting the World Series at Shea in 2000 and were looking down the road past Shea every moment since. And likely were for at least a decade before that. I would have loved the All-Star game at Shea, but Fred Wilpon (and Doubleday, to a lesser extent) saw it as being the belle of the ball but not having a nice frock to wear.
  8. There shouldn't be a minimum anything or a maximum anything. Guys should get what their talent commands on the market.
  9. It just seems to me, if you're going to spend a half hour in a coffin, with machinery grinding all about you, you might as well spend your time chilling on your back and thinking of England.
  10. Yeah, I'm just looking for second-guess points where a manager went left instead of right during the game. That decison point with Nickeas might have been April 1. But yeah, the team might have gone out and pinch hit there. In fact, Jerry probably does it, and does it with Rob Johnson, adding an extra dose of humiliation by sending his backup out to hit for him. (Wait a minute, am I taking Jerry Manuel's part here? I'm not sure.) Don't feel bad for Nickeas. He can get a sweet little job with a boy band. Check out his awesome hair.

  12. I came in late, so forgive me please if this has been discussed. Go-ahead runner on third in the eighth. The Mets play in and get the first out. Up comes Clint Barmes, a giant threat maybe not, but an experienced contact hitter. On deck is banjo-hitting backup catcher Mike McHenry. Don't you want to put Walker on and set up McHenry for the strikeout that inexperienced guys are prone to or the double play that catchers are prone to?
  13. The Mets limped into Pittsburgh last season starving for power also, and found it to some degree, getting three homers in the four-game series, including two by Reyes. They didn't play particularly well, but the series led to a nice little mid-season offensive surge.
  14. It's a radio ad, but are standup MRIs really that awesome?
  15. Come on. Don't quit against Hamrahan.
  16. Kevin Burkhard via the Twitter wrote: Terry Collins had LONG discussion with Ike Davis, which just ended before team stretch.
  17. I've never eaten at Bucco's. Is it good?
  18. Ron Darling reflects on the end of his career at Deadspin. Long winded but great stuff.
  19. Well, again, it's not seeming to happen tonight, but he is out of the lineup. Terry reported that he, Wright and Parnell came up sick in Toronto. I don't know if sick means sicker when compounded with hidden valley ranch disease.

  21. Yeah, you should never let "Who else could play there?' stop you from replacing your firstbasman. The answer is usually "Anybody." Nonetheless, with Rottino up and Schwinnie down, we may be done arming up and farming out for this series, save for any unexpected health issues.
  22. Worth noting that Rottino caught the last two games with the Bisons, so unlike his last callup, they may be looking to him to give them some more offense out of the backstop.
  23. The organization collectively is at 107-63 (.629). That's tops among all big-league organizations. All four affiliates are over .500. St. Lucie has the best record (34-9) of any affiliated team and they just added Jack Leathersich.
  24. Don't have time to graphically represent it right now, but Schwinnie is back in Buff, and Rottino back with the Mets. Hefner officially written in to get Batista's next start against San Diego. ("Nettles got me... bottom of the ninth.")
  25. It's also National Vegetarian Week, so grill up some soyburgers and rock out.
