  1. I would so give my heart to the man who bunted against the shift. Kingman was considered perhaps the most intransigent man of his time (at least after Dick Allen retired), and even he bunted against the shift a few times a year.
  2. Schwinnie really popular, claimed off waivers today by the Indians. Slowly drifting westward.
  3. So who do I gotta sleep with to be a project?
  4. Gotta complete the suspension and then pick up your shit and get lost. Harsh.
  5. And credit to Sandy and Terry and everybody but now we're at another place and it's as good a time as any for a re-evaluation. And with Bay hitting the ballpark today, I'd be surprised if they weren't having a very serious conversation right now.
  6. Yeah, I spit on any such concerns the Mets might have. Move an actual athlete from the outfield to first while leaving a golem out there? That's Jerrythink, is what it is.
  7. You were asking about Round 13? Well, the Mets shocked the world that round by selecting... a righthanded pitcher! This one is one Matthew Bowman of Princeton. He's unlikely to be particularly related to Shawn Bowman who was born 4,000 miles away, but who knows, right? Chris Young helped with the scouting. One more time to the righty bag for Round 14, selecting selecting California high school Chris Flexen, who seems to have come from the Buddy Harrelson line of human/imp hybrids. And the Tour de Righties continues in Round 15, with Delaware schoolboy Nicholas Grant. Which do you think is the before photo and which is the after? Hard not to see some Dykstra in that puss.
  8. Round 10 brings us Paul Sewald, a University of San Diego righthander with a great British Invasion head of hair. Round 11 gives the Mets and baseball yet another double-last-namer in Logan Taylor, a righty out of Eastern Oklahoma State JC, who lives in a dank fallout shelter. Round 12 gives us yet another righthanded pitcher in Robert Whalen. He didn't look down when signing to play at Florida Atlantic. And he's kind of homely in the way all the men in my family are homely. Baby Bro... is that you?!
  9. Sometimes, it's just OK to live with the idea that a pitcher might bat.
  10. And I think it was the wrong confluence of circumstances. Was Young really on a 75-pitch limit?
  11. I don't think it "just so happened" that Davey's last pitcher was a "long-reliever type."
  12. haven't you ever heard the saying "those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." Yeah, I'd don't buy that shit at all. My experience is those who can't marry somebody richer than them. I don't know a lot of things. I do know that Bill Mazeroski had very little success teaching people to turn two like he did. But I'd rather have somebody that could in that position, than somebody that couldn't. When it comes to pitching coaches and hitting coaches, I'm more comfortable to with teachers who weren't successful themselves. But I think something like turning the double play has a higher ratio of learned skill:natural ability. So I'd like a guy I knew learned the skill. Just staying in the family, I've got Doug Flynn, Willie Randolph, Jose Valentin, Roberto Alomar, Edgardo Fonzarelli, Joe McEwing, Bud Harrelson, Felix Millan, Tim Foli, Alex Cora, Fernando Vina, and um... Tim F. Bogar. Twelve.
  13. Tim Teufel, I'm sure, is a great leader of men, but he was also the worst in the league at turning two back in his time. I'm glad to see him on the Mets staff, but I can think of two dozen men without trying (and maybe a woman or two) that I'd rather see as our big league infield instructor. Pretty funny to see Steve Lombardozzi Jr. playing for the Nats, as it was the emergence of his father that allowed the Twins to swap Teufel to the Mets.
  14. So, a little Second Guess Theater. [list:19oyxtkv][*:19oyxtkv]Thole's bunt was a bad move at several levels as describe above. [/*:m:19oyxtkv] [*:19oyxtkv]If you're going to pinch-hit your backup catcher as the last man off the bench, you might as well swap him into an extra-inning game. Both Thole and Flores seemed wasted and having trouble focusing at the end. [/*:m:19oyxtkv] [*:19oyxtkv]Batista is a starter in the pen. Why use him first and why pull him after 21 pitches? Howie or Josh said at the time that Terry needed to get him some work. I'm not so sure the sixth inning of a game, even if you're down 3-0, is the time to worry about getting guys work. They have a game to win and they have at least one reliever that's unavailable. [/*:m:19oyxtkv] [*:19oyxtkv]Why not at least get Dickey up? Elvin was left out to dry. Heck, Hefner too. All hands on deck. We're playing for first.[/*:m:19oyxtkv][/list:u:19oyxtkv] I just wonder if we spend so much time looking down the road that we let the present slip away from us. Terry Collins. Me. You. All of us.
  15. Well, somebody had to win.
  16. WoW. Now it's just getting this Brycecake guy.
  17. They're letting this poor guy hang himself out there.
  18. I'd go five infielders here. Protect against the butcher boy. Nobody's hitting it to left.
  19. Davey has no more pitchers and Detweiler's spot coming up. Shit, passed ball sends the runner to third. Two tired catchers.
  20. I care. How does Desmond not tag on that fly?
  21. That's four strikeouts in a row by Elvin.
  22. [bigpurple:2karg9dr]KA FUCKING BOOM![/bigpurple:2karg9dr]
