  1. Well, it's not like Flores is much of a bat. But pulling Zimmerman for DeRosa is giving up a lot of offense.
  2. They've got three secondbasemen and half a dozen outfielders in the pipeline who might make a splash, depending on what you consider Valdespin to be. I'm sticking with the plan. Duda will fascinate and scare me every day. He seems so awkward and shy of the spotlight. And he may be one of those guys who stats smacking the ball the minute his team becomes comfortably irrelevant.

The Second Spitter wrote: On a final note, it is somewhat unfortunate the franchise will be rebooted after this, as some other members of Batman's rogues gallery may have benefited from the more seriously-toned approch. I was especially looking forward to Batman locking horns with the villain known as RUSH, the loopy right-wing shock jock who bores innocent civilians to death with incredulous stories of liberal conspiracies. How about some KGBEAST action?
  4. TotG: Shocked to see Dickey pitching into the eighth. The magic wasn't there today, but neither were the walks. The guts were, though. Also surprised Terry didn't pull any starters besides Hairston. Thought for sure Wright and Thole wouldn't finish the game. I don't know if the heat helped it or what, but Wright's first homer was like vintage Piazza --- drive that kep' climbing. Wright's glove was magnetic all day. I don't know if Torres is going to Tejada school or what, but he is not getting cheated these days. Having some really good at-bats. The idea that nobody in the bullpen isn't cutting it, so go with each guy for one batter --- that's vintage Jerry action by Terry. I dinna think that's the answer. Ramirez deserved to stick around if nobody else. Don't know if the runner was safe on that grounder to second in the ninth, but Turner really didn't charge. That hit-by-pitch by Parnell was funny. He gets ahead with the curve, and I say, "OK, this time come up and in" --- plunk!* Encouraging to see the Nats swapped out some starters, and so had the last guy on their bench up with two outs in the ninth. Not encouraging enough. It woulda been nice to finish this one like we started, but I'll sure take it. *Or as ceetar put it: pitch 'em in Bobby. wait, maybe not that much in.
  5. DFA doesn't make him a free agent, however. The Nats still own his rights for 10 days and can negotiate a trade, though leverage is obviously compromised. I'm fine with the notion of farming out Nieuwie and gaining Ankiel. We've suited up plenty of other veterans of PED suspensions. Long day playing hooky for me. Mets and Nats by day, Squeeze and B52s (they dropped the apostrophe in 2008) by night.
  6. Why pick on poor Cliff Floyd? I would think, I don't know, Felix Heredia would be first in line. It's just weak that FOX is allowing themselves to be used by this promotional campaign disguised as news.
  7. "He who hesitates is lost" goes the expression. It's not so much a general universally applicable principle as all that. Is there an actual opportunity that a person is hesitating to take advantage of? An advantageous one? Initiative is a virtue, but there's a clashing virtue that is prudence, and there is wisdom in knowing which virtue to yield to. Edgy DC wrote: DIS-POS-A-BLE LOOGEEE! DIS-POS-A-BLE LOOGEEE! Is that a photo of the Marlins behind him?
  8. Personally, I'd rather play baseball against pros of any level. The raw speed of a real basketball player would strip most of us of the ball as soon as we put down our first dribble. The raw power of even the worst football players... well, I don't want to be the ball carrier.
  9. Dis is Noo Yawk City. No one tells us whut neighbuhhood to live in or whut team to root for. Let's go, Yankeez! Come ahnnnn, Mets! What a monstrous-sounding fake Mets fan that is.
  10. Swan Swan H wrote: Chris Young runs like he just put in a layup and he's coming back on defense. Go, Chris Young!
  11. Hey, a hit by Bay! That's a good portent!

  13. Moore missed and he should know it He ought to just play the short hop and throw it
  14. He lumbers a doozie to Lombardozzi.
  15. Ok, Murphy, Wright, Davis. Let's smack some baseballs!
  16. Still I wonder if his game-calling skillz are part of our bullpen struggle.
  17. That's the way to pitch to Tyler Moore.
  18. Full count to Torres. Grounds to LaRoche. Side retired. We'll be back after these messages and I'll be turning the play-by-play over to my colleagues.
  19. Andres Torres. Doing pretty nicely the last two-three weeks...
  20. Jason Bay follows. GET OFF THE INTERSTATE NOW!!! (Strikes out on three pitches. Ptui.)
  21. OH, SHIT! You DISSED ME!! Duda lines to the wall. Harper catches it and plants his face. Great outfield defense by the Nats this series.
  22. You don't want to miss t-shirt night against the Dodgers. First 20,000 get a Dodgers t-shirt. HAH! Duda digging in. Sore hammy. Collins sez he's not running any slower than usual.
  23. Ceetar wrote: bmfc1 wrote: Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPN TC said he needs to maximize outfield defense w/ Chris Young pitching, hence Bay, not Valdespin. TC said he'll still "mix and match with Bay That makes sense but Duda is out there. Terry said on his WFAN interview that he wanted Bay out there because Valdespin's an infielder and with Young and a lot of fly balls he wanted the experience. Duda's not great for sure, but he's the 'regular' and is vastly experienced as compared to Jordany. What do you go for --- athletic skills or experience. At a corner outfield spot, it's a tossup. Also going for the introvert over the extrovert.
  24. LaRoche grounds to first. Zippos after one. I can do this all night.
