  2. But do the bands "suck"?
  3. I was thinking of the Reagan Administration during Iran-Contra. "Who's dead? Casey's dead? Well, then, this was all his idea."
  4. "That message came from Gonzalez's phone, but those weren't his words. Or even his feelings. He really didn't know what the message said. And if the message looks bad, well, he had nothing to do with it. The primary guy was, um, the guy who isn't here anymore." Come on. Seriously? I'm supposed to buy that? That's pathetic. It's worse. It's pathetque.
  5. Sorry, it wasn't obvious to me. I don't see the connection between the two deals. The first was a guy making something like big league minimum-ish salary they had to move or lose in a roster pinch. The other was a deal was an unrelated deal in which the team took on salary trading a minor leaguer for a big league veteran. Plenty to dislike in either trade, but neither profiles as a salary dump. Moving Hairston or Rauch or Byrdak (before he went down) would have been a salary dump. Had they kept Quintanilla and moved Cedeno, that could have been a salary dump.
  6. Hairston 2.90 Shoppach 1.93 Tejada 1.16 Acosta 1.14 RRamirez 0.85 Cedeno 0.82 Wright 0.72 Murphy 0.50

I'm looking at the two deals: Salaries of Q and Beato (minor league) + money received from Nationals=plus Salary of Shoppach=minus. I'm sorry, but I'm not following. Where do the Nationals fit in?
  8. Niese 4.30 Davis 3.26 Francisco 0.92 Baxter 0.89 Rauch 0.47 Wright 0.15 Bay 0.02
  9. "Terry, your team just struck out 15 times in a nine-inning game. Does it actually feel like a win?"
  10. > "Terry, why'd you go to Francisco in the ninth?" > "Well, that's what he gets paid fo... OUCH! Why are you hitting me?!"
  11. People I'd rather see than Francisco: [list:2uss6lk5][*:2uss6lk5]Dave Telgheder[/*:m:2uss6lk5] [*:2uss6lk5]Vinegar Bend Mizell[/*:m:2uss6lk5] [*:2uss6lk5]Deputy Enos[/*:m:2uss6lk5][/list:u:2uss6lk5] Go, Frank Francisco!
  12. Torres had another hard out to right center. There were also a few down to third --- both soft and hard ones --- that Zimmerman did a good job being in position for and were still tough plays.
  13. Yeah, it was disappointing to go down with two lefties on the bench while letting three righties bat. But I had a sweet wave of Alfonzonostalgia watching from right field and seeing number 13 playing second. Then I saw number 12 in right, thought of Francoeur and felt all sad again.
  14. My wife is at the point where she says she'd root for the Yankees over the Nats. I kinda hate myself for letting her still sleep in the house. Have I taught her nothing? "Try and think globally, honey!"
  15. I'm not sure I understand the complaint from that perspective. The Mets take on salary with this deal.
  16. I dislike. The only reason I didn't "hate" is because Alderson's team still gets the benefit of the doubt with me. Possible things you can learn about a 32-year-old catcher by acquiring him that you maybe can't learn about him by scouting him: [list:r3uogao0][*:r3uogao0]Can he work with your staff?[/*:m:r3uogao0] [*:r3uogao0]Can he handle the knuckler?[/*:m:r3uogao0] [*:r3uogao0]Can he mentor a younger proteg?[/*:m:r3uogao0] [*:r3uogao0]Is his ability to hit lefties a statistical illusion, perhaps enhanced by Fenway, or is it a for-real thing?[/*:m:r3uogao0][/list:u:r3uogao0] Just speculating.
  17. Who did Daniel Murphy infect?
  18. Here you go. http://www.radioshack.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=2032189&sr=1&origkw=tv%20antenna
  19. Yeah, if I'm reading the numbers right, his GB/FB ratio has been ballooning, while his infield hit percentage has remained relatively steady. SeasonGB/FBIFH%20022.306.80% 20032.546.60%20041.4710.50%20052.897.50%20063.258.40%20072.339.60%20082.458.40%20092.517.10%20103.607.10%20113.368.30%20125.028.90%
  20. Well, part of it is that he's hitting a lot more infield grounders, so that a greater number of grounders are available to turn into infield hits. I field dirty just checking is baseball-reference page, you know?
  21. Posting this without comment: Bryce Harper PA: 418 OPS: .718 Juan Pierre PA: 330 OPS: .722
  22. Dumb question, but can't one switch off the cable and get the game through the airwaves, or is that not possible anymore?
  23. Eight hits short of Eddie Murray for 12th place all time. 1. Pete Rose: 4,256 2. Ty Cobb: 4,189 3. Hank Aaron: 3,771 4. Stan Musial: 3,630 5. Tris Speaker: 3,514 6. Cap Anson: 3,435 7. Honus Wagner: 3,420 8. Carl Yastrzemsk: 3,419 9. Paul Molitor: 3,319 10. Eddie Collins: 3,315 11. Willie Mays: 3,283 12. Eddie Murray: 3,255 13. Derek Jeter: 3,247 14. Nap Lajoie: 3,242 15.
