Shockingly, they're all human beings. They could be dealing with marital problems, a sick parent, a new kid, a nagging injury, depression, bed bugs, and any number of things. "Morale" speaks more to the condition of groups, rather than individuals.
  2. Like a scorer who wants to keep his job would let that happen.
  3. My new pet theories, all both morale based: Watching the bullpen undo their best efforts broke them.Seeing Bay return to the lineup broke them. The lost faith in Collins. All morale based, because I got nothing else. I doubt those things. While players may ponder guys sucking getting playing time, I think they're also sure that Bay could wake up one day and suddenly be good again. The "He's a good guy" bit doesn't fly with fans much, but I think it plays into the teammate angle. If it's morale based, I think it stems from losing Gee to a medical thing. I doubt them too. My point is that, while I think this team is demoralized, I'm at a loss as to why that is and why that happened when it did. It's likely a large combination of things that shattered their faith (perhaps realistically) in their ability to keep playing at the level they had been. I do know my guesses are at least as good as the one about "losing Gee to a medical thing."
  4. I don't know, but Rob Carson just moved into the family photo last night. 5. third in the league in offense in July. Suddenly Thole, Murphy, Wright, Tejada, Nieuwenhuis, and Duda all get a case of the noodlebats at the same time. If it's not a big enough sample size to trace, it sure is a big enough one to cripple the team's season. 6. Murphy and not Baxter? We need a double, Terry.
  7. Our righthanded ace in the hole here: Zach Lutz.
  8. Well, that was a nadiriffic inning.
  9. Robert Carson, the spirit of Bobby Myrick smiles on you.
  10. Base hit, man. Bunt time!
  11. Jason Phillips as cleanup guy --- how are we hitting worse than we did then? Ryan Zimmerman puts the Nats up 1-0, or as we call it, running up the score.

  15. The Mets reject your false values, your substitute realities, your substitute coffee creamers, and the myths you weave to blind the gullible. They reject your vision for the country and they reject your manuscript submission. They reject the false promises of prophets since fled. And if they are true to themselves, they will reject the creeping despair that threatens to cripple the franchise. These are the men who will make that stand. 16. The Mets have announced that they've extended their working agreement with Sally League stalwarts in Savannah, so....
  17. Well, last year they honored a pitcher from an 82-79 team, the year before a pitcher from a dreadful 61-101 team, so to the extent that this was once true, it's less so.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Looks like the Mets will play in Las Vegas next year, as the Astros took OKC and the Brews re-upped with Nashville. Excellent work, Jeff. Toronto hasn't actually inked Buffalo yet. You never know. There was really nothing the Mets could do though. Except, you know, be a desirable partner. Instead they are the last kid picked for dodgeball, again. I know in the grand scheme by itself this is no big deal, but nevertheless its the kind of thing that just gnaws away my fandom. I'm already standing behind a team that fucked up its new stadium, can't score runs, owes everyone money, dies every July, wastes money on shitty players, etc etc... does it also have to be the organization that other cities want no part of? Cut corners like this and it begins to show. There's the hats. Don't forget the hats.
  19. Yeah, well, it ain't either now. The Mets make me dream of lager.
  20. Megdal's compass has clearly been broken for some time. The Mets playing terribly doesn't change that. Twenty-nine teams are going to lose. You throw a bunch of fact-loose stinkbombs at a team all year and when they fail, you can say "SEE? I was RIGHT!" It's a safe-enough play, but it's all bullshit.
  21. They can take that race. I know they can.
  22. Fire at Citi, and they start playing at [crossout]KeyStone Park[/crossout] MCU Park. They escape a few ghosts and they begin a string of sellouts. Simple. They can hire one of their skeezy former clubbies to perform the arson and cash in big time with AIG or whoever insures them.
  23. Hey, pulling RA after 84 pitches. That makes... sense.
  24. I've got some yiddish terms I could use now.
  25. Just for today. Dickey should have enough pitches left if he hangs in there. OK: curses to me.
