  1. Cosmo, a fan favorite of all ages, returned to Earth and completed his 12th season as the the Mascot for the Las Vegas 51s (2001-12). Cosmo is a survivor of a spaceship crash who spent time at "Area 51" and was a baseball phenom on his home planet of Koufaxia. Cosmo makes numerous appearances at elementary schools, businesses and charity functions. For more information regarding Cosmo, call the 51s office at (702) 943-7200. PERSONAL: Cosmo loves hot dogs, Cracker Jack and popcorn. His favorite music includes Elton John's "Rocket Man," David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust," Styx's "Mr. Roboto," and the Space Jazz Trio. His favorite movies and TV shows include Men in Black (I , II & III), all episodes of the Star Wars saga, Lost in Space and Star Trek.

  3. Without checking the other thread or any other sources, tell me: 1. What city does Joaquin Arias hail from? 2. Before being traded to the Mets, the Rangers had designated Joaquin Arias for assignment. Which ex-Met had they added to the roster precipitating this move? 3. Who did the Mets trade to acquire Joaquin Arias? 4. What number did Joaquin Arias wear as a Met? 5. Who did Joaquin Arias hit his lone extra-base hit as a Met off of? Bonus Question: How the hell is he hitting so good?
  4. The Mets Transaction Log wrote: 10/04/12: New York Mets recalled Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Las Vegas 51s. I guess that makes it all real.
  5. Hank Thomas is the man. He's also a Washingtonian, and so works hard at staying off ledges.
  6. Wow. I'm impressed. The furthest I've gotten was that they all seemed to be righty/righties, but Everett switch-hit, and the last guy on the list batted lefty, so that's out. They all threw righty however. Whoop-de-do. They all had two eyes, also. A lot of them had medium complexions and I thought, maybe they're all mixed race. But that would probably come as a big surprise to Eddie Kasko's parents, as he's as white as an envelope
  7. Ashie62 wrote: I'm thinking the "industry Source" suggesting the Mets will or did open with a $100 million dollar offer is full of shit. The "industry source was "people familiar with the team's thinking." And they didn't say "will" or "did" but "are expected to." Megdal is running to a very specific place with some very abstract shoes. And of course it was the place he was planning on going anyway. Get back to doing some reporting maybe. Letting Heyman (of all people) do the legwork while you get to stay home and distort seems like no contribution at all.
  8. These guys like movies where white guys get to get into some fucked up shit and fuck some motherfuckers up, don't they? Fantasizing fan bois. Get over yourselves.
  9. You want a civilian informant to snitch on the Yankee operation, Matt Lawton is your man.
  10. See, I think Deadspin pieces are usually well written, just fiercely amoral.
  11. And the ludicrously underwhelming offers to Wright and Dickey make it fair to wonder if the Mets plan to cut salary by eliminating two of their salary obligations for 2013 that are movable via trade. How does he sleep at night, what with his brain racing to unwind the intricate and far-reaching plots the Mets are hatching at that very hour to deprive the public of joy?
  12. Who wants to invite Sam Page to register?

    Surprise!

I think it has been described as AA to AA+. Probably the typical talent is guys on their way to AA, though some have been to AAA (and Daniel Murphy played AFL ball after reaching the majors). But unlike actual AA, virtually everybody has a ceiling that's expected to take them past there.
  14. Their Chris Carter is better than our'n.
  15. I'm a little concerned that Baseball/Goatee Guy and Album-of-Portraits Guy are just vampires using him to keep their E-Bay business going.

    Surprise!

It's certainly one way to use it --- to further accelerate guys on an already accelerated track. Other uses have been to round out the season of a guy who has lost time to injuries, to work a guy at an alternative position, or to introduce a guy who had been a non-prospect but is coming off an eye-opening season to a higher level of talent to see if he's a fluke or not. The Mets have almost never sent top pitching prospects to the AFL.
  17. Heyman has the Mets intending to open with $100 million. Points out that Wright has stuck with the ACES agency, despite their ties to a PED ring. He doesn't come out and say it, but he seems to mean to imply that this speaks of Wright's sense of loyalty. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/20525462/mets-expected-to-offer-about-100m-to-start-as-they-try-to-make-david-wright-a-met-for-life I guess it can be argued that Wright and Reyes both might have left a little on the table by refusing to negotiate mid-season after torrid first halves, only to cool off in the second half.
  18. VIPs added to Mets' Nov. 1 charity event October, 9, 2012 By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com More VIPs have committed to the Nov. 1 benefit for Shannon Forde, the Mets' media relations staffer who is battling Stage 4 breast cancer. Here are details, directly from the team: Pitcher Matt Harvey, former Mets manager Willie Randolph and Joe McEwing, a member of New Yorks 2000 National League Championship team, are the latest additions to the Nov. 1 dinner honoring Shannon Forde. Forde, who has been with the Mets for 18 years in the Media Relations Department, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. When I read about Shannon I just knew I had to be there for her, said Randolph. She just made things so much easier for me when I was with the Mets. The fundraiser will be held at the Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, NJ. Admission to the dinner is $100, while there is a meet and greet with Daniel Murphy, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, John Franco, Bob Ojeda, Al Leiter, Edgardo Alfonzo, Ed Kranepool, Ed Charles and New York Giants Super Bowl punter Sean Landeta for an additional $250. Guests at the dinner, which runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., will be able to bid on such unique items as: >Dinner with Darryl Strawberry at his restaurant. >A 30 minute pitching lesson with Dwight Gooden. >A visit to the SNY booth to meet announcers Keith Hernandez, Gary Cohen and Ron Darling. >A private meeting with Mets manager Terry Collins, plus the chance to sit in on is pre and post game press conferences at Citi Field. To purchase tickets to this event please visit the website at www.hopeshinesforshannon.com or contact Debbie Durante at durantedebbie@hotmail.com or Cindy Santos at tripletmomof3@hotmail.com. To make a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to Hope Shines for Shannon and can be mailed to P.O. Box 3145, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742. Lotta lefty swingers in the house (counting Gooden). Nice in particular to see a righteous cause bring the Mets and Randolph back into each other's good graces.

    Surprise!

Relative to our lower rated offensive talent, yes.

    Surprise!

I think Sandy's operation is distinctly breaking with Omar's, who used the AFL as an opportunity to push high-rated offensive talent.
  22. ESPN Stats & Info ?@ESPNStatsInfo When Alex Rodriguez struck out to end the #Yankees game last night, he became 1st MLB player in postseason history with 4 game-ending Ks.
  23. MLB players are paid during the season.
  24. Ceetar wrote: I wasn't questioning if they paid the loan, just questioning in general how much we know about the money flow. Well, that's certainly what seems to be suggested is suggested by this exchange. Ceetar wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Well, they used a chunk of that to pay off loans from MLB and Bank of America. it's murky without seeing the books of course, meaning no one actually knows.
  25. What was the bank of america loan money used for is what I'm asking? A very different point from questioning whether or not anyone really knows if they paid off the loan. Contemporary accounts reported that the BoA loan was to cover operating expenses until the minority sale went through.
